        DESERT CATS

"A thousand Arabs means a thousand knives, delivered anywhere day or night. It means a thousand camels. That means a thousand packs of high explosives and a thousand crack rifles. We can cross Arabia while Johnny Turk is still turning round, and smash his railways. And while he's mending them, I'll smash them somewhere else. In thirteen weeks, I can have Arabia in chaos."
        — Lawrence of ARABIA

EGYPTIAN—JORDANIAN BORDER — The sound of shifting sand and labored footsteps were the only noises everyone could hear as they walked through the cold, dark desert. There were 8 of them, with 7 donning their digicamo uniforms and cloaks. The fact that they were so blatantly SAG was a bit off putting to the guide, however there was nothing he could do at the moment. Fortunately the night had sapped the desert of all its heat, with no Sun to blanket the area in its oven-like temperatures.

After about an hour of walking, Koenig rose his fist up to signal everyone to stop. He then made the hand signal for everyone to get down. As everyone hit the deck, the reason for the concern became apparent, as a pair of bright lights began moving down a nearby road, with the sound of a small truck emanating from them. Everyone readied their weapons, which primarily consisted of G75 rifles and its variants.

A voice suddenly rang out within the heads of everyone, save for the guide. Don't fire until I say.

The usage of PsyComms was generally normal for SAG units, though it never failed to send shivers down someone's spine the first time they hear it. The guide had no idea what was happening, of course, as he didn't have the augments to use PsyComm nor the ability to access theirs. Nevertheless, as the vehicle slowed to a stop, and infantry began to dismount, it became readily apparent that someone snitched somewhere.

Dismounts, 5 times infantryman front, by the truck. Leo, get ready to knock that truck over.

Leonard nodded in agreement, before reaching around and grabbing a tube off his back, he then partially got up, resting it on his shoulder. Meanwhile, the five soldiers began to fan out from the truck, with a sixth on a turret of sorts. It was then that the crucial order came in through the PsyComm.

      Open fire.

Within a few crucial moments of that order being Leonard popped up with his missile launcher, and a loud POP sounded, with a vapor trail flying right into the truck. A loud explosion erupted as the rest of the squad began opening fire with their various weapons, the pops of the weapons mixing with the popping from the technical's ammunition cooking off. The flashing lights of muzzle flashes, the yellow tracers from the Jordanian weapons, and bright orange flame from the vehicle illuminated the area rather thoroughly.

Within a few seconds, the firefight was over, dead Jordanian infantry all around a burning truck. From there, the group continued on their way to At-Taybeh, a city just across the border from Israel. It was almost sunrise when the group stopped, with Luzia and Cecylia being told to scout ahead. Meanwhile, Koenig and Bachmeier were talking to the guide about the last couple of directions.

"So we just head 10 kilometers east? About that way?" Koenig pointed his hand due east as he spoke Arabic almost flawlessly.

The guide nodded, "It should be just about past the hills. It's not hard to miss."

Koenig nodded, "Thank you for your help." He then looked at Bachmeier and gave a curt nod. Bachmeier then clamped her hand down over the guide's nose and mouth, before sending a serrated, double edged knife into the man's throat. Koenig looked down as the man struggled for his life, those last few precious moments before he passed. The man's lifeless body fell to the ground as Bachmeier let go of him, cleaning her knife off on her leg.

Bachmeier looked at Koenig, who simply gave a nod and began giving orders in Leithanian, "We'll leave the body here, nobody'll find it for a while. Let's go meet up with the others." The others simply nodded in agreement and moved on to meet up with Luzia and Cecylia. Once meeting up, the group then made their way into At-Taybeh, sneaking in under the cover of early dawn and requisitioning a house from one of the locals. There they'll rest until the time is right...
