Mosquito Lake Fishing Report

Hello anglers and outdoor addicts. We fished Mosquito several times last week and saw very few boats and most of those were fishing but several boaters were also knee boarding/skiing and enjoying their families. The lake level is 171.41. Surface water temperatures are running in mid 84-85 degrees Fahrenheit. On the main lake surface is stained with mid lake slightly stained to clear as you get closer to the main lake. On south Mosquito is slightly stained in the back of major feeder creeks but clearer as the boater gets on the main lake.

BASS
We continue to catch bass with cloud cover and there has been plenty of it with the tropical storm/hurricane making its way on shore. We continue to catch bass shallow (2-8 ft.) with my favorite top water is a Berkley Choppo in shad patterns as my favorite color is Bone. We continue to catch bass shallow with wacky rigged Senko’s with my favorite color is watermelon blue flake as well as mad melon. Also, we like to wacky rig The General in green pumpkin and pumpkin party. We rig these the same with a 3/0 Aberdeen hook with 10 pound test Big Game. We fish these the same manner as most of the time the bass picks it up on the initial fall. I lift it up a couple of times and let it fall back down to the bottom and then reel it in and cast again since most pick-ups come on the initial drop. I like a Fenwick Elite 6.3 ft. medium action spinning rod (ESMS63M-F) the reel costs $129 and Mitchell 300X Ge spinning reel and it cost less than $60 bucks.

We continue to catch bass deep (15-20 feet) on deep diving crankbaits with 12 pound test Triene 100% Fluorocarbon which sinks and could give you another ½ foot on your deep diving crankbait. We also are catching most of our deep bass on Carolina rigs with Baby Brush Hogs in green pumpkin and water melon red. We also our catching bass on Pit Boss in Bama Red and we fish out Carolina rigs in 18-28 feet. I like to make long casts with our Carolina rigs so I use ½ or ¾ oz. sinker. In helping to make a long cast I use a 4 foot leader. I use the same line on leader as I do on main line which is Berkley 17 pound test fluorocarbon. This line sinks which helps to keep this line on the bottom. Fortunately, the best time to fish deep is often. from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. which makes it great to fish shallow from daylight until 9 or 10 a.m. and then go to. deep patterns.
