Thanks for that. I know this doesn't relate to French royalty but, to quote our old friend wikipedia again:

"His or Her Grand Ducal Highness (abbreviation: HGDH) is a style of address used by the non-reigning members of some German ruling families headed by a Grand Duke. No currently reigning family employs the style, although it was used most recently by the younger sisters of the late Grand Duchess Charlotte of Luxembourg. Since Grand Duchess Charlotte's marriage to Prince Felix of Bourbon-Parma, all of their male-line descendants have used the style Royal Highness, which he bore."

Is that in keeping with what you described Panto (can I call you that?)?

The reason why I'm asking all this is because, in keeping with the "foreign imported dynasty" and, like in Uncle Noel with references to the Soviet Union, I quite like to link my fictional countries to real ones. So, rather than make-up an entirely new royal family I'm trying to create a fictional younger son of a real European monarch (current contenders are Braganza though I'm worried about the mechanics of this since the Portuguese Royal Family starts to petter out at just about the time I need a wastrel prince to casually begat an heir for my dynasty) so I'm wondering whether the fact that the first Leagrani sovereign would be His Royal Highness would mean than subsequent male heirs would be.

So if the fictional heiress to the Principality of Monaco marries Prince Harry, would their children be Royal or Serene Highnesses? (The other alternative for a royal family is Bourbon-Two Sicilies but I'm not sure whether I can manhandle the very extensive coat of arms into something I can manage)

What a rambling post, sorry about that. But hey, my streams of consciousness have to be better than six months of silence.

Whoops, I posted that as the wrong country. Look I'm the same person, I do two countries.

I'm also considering a Prince Murat

Charles X of France extended the title Prince de Bourbon with the style Royal Highness to all the members of the House of Capet (illegitimate lines are not considered part of the dynasty). That's why Prince Félix of Bourbon-Parma could extend the style. Previously, collateral lines were Serene Highnesses, as Panto said. The Luxembourgs took advantage of this to upgrade themselves, which they are entitled to, of course.

If Harry were to marry a Monegasque heiress, I suppose their childrne would be technically entitled to be HRH, since the 1917 Letters Patent that regulated royal titles states that "the children of any Sovereign of these Realms and the children of the sons of any such Sovereign and the eldest living son of the eldest son of the Prince of Wales shall have and at all times hold and enjoy the style title or attribute of Royal Highness with their titular dignity of Prince or Princess prefixed to their respective Christian names or with their other titles of honour". If Charles becomes King, Harry's children could be HRH, but not his grandchildren.

Didn't realise Charles X did that Brasland!

Of course, since Louis XVII lived in Pantocratoria, Charles X was an usurper not the last legitimiste king of France ;)

This has been very interesting even beyond NationStates and role-play so thanks very much for the input :)

Noel/Leagran, this page is great and very academic, although not updated. You'll learn a lot about titles: http://www.heraldica.org/topics/royalty/

This is all leading up to the fact that, like in NationStates of old, there's going to be a ball to which all are cordially invited

It's been a while, have I done this right?

viewtopic.php?f=4&t=401390

Yay! A ball!

I am going to do more with that ball thread, I just haven't had time

I will post in the ball soon.

We have an application.http://s4.zetaboards.com/Western_Atlantic/topic/30068155/1/ They have also PMed me about it. I would not have checked the offsite boards had they not. This is the first post in quite a few years. Unless anyone seriously thinks we are going to revive the off-site boards, I'd like to go ahead and remove the link and post an application thread on the NS forums. Thoughts?

I am in support. I haven't checked the offsite in several years.

Support too.

Sure thing!

Would anyone like Lucinda, the wife of Prince Samuel, Duke of Huntington, to be a royal from their country?

Would anyone like a parliamentary factfinding committee visiting them?

Yes I would. As you can tell I keep having grand ideas for threads that I then lack the time to progress. Plus they tend to be stories in my head as opposed to an actual rp. So it might be a good excuse to expound on my country without having to worry about a narrative too much.

Ok. I have something coming up.

Myself and Daytanistan (and, cough, Snefaldia but just ignore that) are ready for you capitalist pig-dogs according to today's ratings.

Oh, Noel and Brasland, I have been working on a new map! But haven't been able to properly host it yet. It'll need input from you two though.

No prob, Knoot.

grargz zambaz zzzzgrrrrrr

Hey guys, what's up
