I like the cards, especially if nations have a different flag for each season (yes, only 2 rn, but give it time) they tell a story about the player, the eye for details, the gaming style. It's a showcase for your creativity.

NS feels like it needs all the embellishment it can get, so I don't mind the cards, but I do feel like there is wasted potential with them. I think it'd be interesting to make them into a TCG (trading card game) with battles to replace the challenge system. For example, you could make well rounded decks that are middling in stats, or build specialty decks oriented around economic or military strength. That would make card rarity and the trading economy far more important. Thoughts?

You can’t seriously be considering this!” exclaims overworked diplomat Heather Lannister. “We’ve been working for years to bring peace to this region. He may have blood on his hands, but so do the other sixteen sides in this war. A sudden power vacuum will just prolong the hostilities! We have a real chance of securing a lasting peace here, surely that’s worth overlooking a couple of mass murders?”
modern civil wars be like:
In my dictatorship simulations, I have enjoyed choosing this for that issue:
"Give this individual safe conduct, let them do their thing and if some kind of terrible accident were to befall our dear friend... how could you possibly have known that ceiling beam was going to fall on his head?"
Hmmmm.
