Darklore wrote:In either case, Jonathan preferred to not die in the first place and as such continued to keep his head down and continued to crawl along the floor, beginning to take breaks behind pieces of solid cover because his muscles were starting to ache from this rather exhausting way of moving.

Because of his slow movements, it did not take long for most of the Westbeechians troopers to have passed him by. The fighting had already reached the limits of the facility, Westbeechian troopers now about to have taken the facility in its entirety. However, as Jonathan approached a piece of cover to rest, a familiar droid quickly approached Jonathan from behind and grabbed him, placing his head into a choke-hold. In the droid's other hand was a blaster. The one who grabbed him was the unique droid that had talked to him briefly before.

The droid had been able to reach Jonathan via a stairwell that was off to the side, completely ignored by the troopers who were advancing. Behind the super tactical droid were eight more of the bulky, larger B2 droids and six commando droids, each holding their blasters (or wrists) out towards the Westbeechians who had, by now, seen what was happening and were aiming their blasters towards the droids. The tactical droid vocalized, "Do not shoot, otherwise this human shall be executed. The chances of having successfully taken this facility were near 0, but our information was, obviously, incomplete. Now, I propose a deal in which I will be able to return to friendly lines and you can have this pathetic being back."

A Westbeechian officer then approached, distinctly different from the stormtroopers that were fighting in the facility, but he still had his blaster pistol drawn. "I am General Kalrune, commanding officer for the attack. I'm the one determining your fate, as well as the man you're holding and luckily for you, my orders aren't to destroy you. Your knowledge is limited in comparison to what we have, and you are unaware of the situation of the whole planet. I don't mind taking you to your remnants, but I doubt they are where you think they are. Your best choice is to come along with my troops as a prisoner. You will receive a better purpose among us than with the Alliance. Plus, I am certain your information will be extremely valuable to our admiral."

The droid looked at the officer a briefly said nothing before the droids around him seemingly shut off. "General, I am in no position to assume, but due to the lack of communications we can receive, I am left with no choice but to agree with your terms." Around them, the fighting had stopped and troopers were looking about at droids that slowly became immobile. "I have overridden the systems of these droids and the facility is now in your hands. But, I still wish to see if my data is correct or not. If you would oblige, then I shall leave it to you."

The general nodded. "Fair enough. Reactivate a few of those droids and get in our speeder. Our little friend you have along with a squad of my troopers will move with you to wherever you believe your remnants are. I won't be joining you, unfortunately, as we have to keep moving."

The exchange went along... unusually easily, but the general did indeed direct the droid with two B2's and four commandos alongside nine more stormtroopers, these ones wearing white uniforms with some black on the front of their armor and helmets modeled after the guard's old helmets. They boarded the transport and the super tactical droid whispered coordinates to the driver, who then took them back into the jungle, continuing in the original trajectory the squad Jonathan had originally arrived with had been going.

At first they did not know how, but then it clicked. A suicide bombing, hijacking of a plane the whole shabang. After they devised the plan for the hijacking, they realized a problem; just how were we going to get the nuke through? So, they decided to brute force it and get to the nearest plane. This plan surprisingly worked and they managed to get the nuke on the plane. When the plane lifted off it was smooth sailing until they got near Georgine. When they were approaching it, disaster struck the left wing of the plane; one of its propellers bursted into flames. Then, some time later, after some struggle to stop the flaming propeller, the other propeller was set alight. They hijackers knew they could do nothing, so they, not wanting for nothing to happen, decided to crash it into a near by. The plane was aiming down more vertically by the minute. Then the last propeller on the left wing went into flames. The plane finally hit the ground at the outskirts of Georgine; luckily not an alarming amount were killed, but many, many more were injured. A more than concerning and weird amount of radiation was coming from the back of the plane as there sits a failed to explode bag... As a pume of smoke comes for the outskirts...

Not that it matters at this point, but from a realism perspective, the warhead probably should not have been able to detonate properly anyway.

Plutonium implosion-type bombs(like the W54) rely on the extremely precise alignment of their explosive “lenses” in order to initiate the fission chain reaction. The damage from a plane crash & ensuing fire would almost certainly cause one or more of the lenses to become misaligned, resulting in a low-yield “nuclear fizzle” rather than an actual nuclear explosion. (If it was an air-dropped gravity bomb, it might survive, but the Davy Crockett was not designed for that purpose and I doubt it would work under those conditions)

Sorry if I’m beating a dead horse here. I don’t want to prolong drama or anything, I just wanted to point out the implications of this scenario.

"Lose your metal shell for skin and bones, then we'll talk about who is the pathetic one here."

, Jonathan vocalised with some difficulty out of the chokehold he had been placed in, realising after a short but primarily intuitive struggle, that, as one would expect from a robot, it had a grip of iron. Mentally he was already sending aspirations up to the sky at the rate of a machinegun just in case but the realist within him did, as much as he hated to admit it, hope that the so far so omnipotent Westbeechians would just reveal that actually they stood behind the robot with a gun pressed to its head...processor...whatever one needed to actually hit with them.

What happened instead was about as far from what he expected as it could possibly be. It was downright...pathetic.

"And this dares to call me pathetic. Is a robot and just surrenders because..."

, he didn't continue with his tirade, merely applying a kick to one of the now deactivated droid, angling his foot correctly so as to not break his toes. In all seriousness however, he didn't find this turn of events plausible, nor the treatment of the combattants. The entire point of the metalbots and the fleshbots was that they were throwaways to a degree. Their value was measured in the amount of damage they could deal to the enemy or the amount of time they could stall them for. This oh so genius robot had just ensured that his faction's losses in this battle were total and Westbeechian losses in terms of personnel and time even more minimal. Granted, in a way he was also happy about it because if that robot had acted the way he expected it to act, he would be quite dead and he wasn't quite ready for that. He also wasn't certain why a robot was afforded this degree of...freedom in return for its surrender.

In either case, he, the droid and a new and all different squad of visually identical troopers were assigned to a transport and set off. When he decided to randomly check how far he had gotten of course during his misadventures, he barely stifled a laugh. What were the chances that the metalbot wanted to go the same way as he did?

Etheinia-Ferwerter trade deal already bearing fruit, says analysts
The new free-trade agreement established between the United Federation of Etheinia and The Controlist Ferwerter Union has quickly begun producing results, according to top financial analysts. A new report from the Department of Business & Economics at the University of Etheinia, Oyiever shows changing trends in import and export demands among Etheinian consumers, with a clear favor towards Ferweter businesses.

The biggest increase has been in food & fiber imports, with the CFU (and by extension, Ferwerter Hegebeintum) quickly becoming one of the largest supplier of agricultural products to Etheinia in all categories except fish. The abundance of cheap foreign grain has set off changes in the practices of Etheinian farmers; some have converted their fields into feedlots for raising livestock, while others have begun growing cash crops such as grapes, citrus, and tobacco. In a unique development, Etheinian Chemical Industries(ECI) announced that it planned to construct a plant in Norvak Point to convert Ferwerter potatoes into ethanol for biofuel. Another big expansion has been in consumer product sales, particularly consumer electronics - Etheinian citizens have begun to prefer Ferwerter cellphones, TVs, and computers, as they are considered cheaper and more advanced than domestic products. Enterprise, industrial, & government buyers, however, continue to lean towards Etheinian computer systems.

The expected expansion of Etheinian businesses into the CFU has not been as quick, despite efforts by the new export-import bank. A notable exception has been the Evergreen Institute, a Port Sullivan-based defense & foreign policy think tank which plans to construct a new campus in downtown Ferwert, primarily to support the operations of the new MACA headquarters. The corporate law firm Metaxas, Uzun, Zentai, & Smith and the insurance corporation Merchants' Group also announced that they would be opening offices in Ferwert, Stahitmaostad, Blije, and several other cities.

Police nab drug & gun smugglers across panhandle region
A coordinated effort between the Bureau of Narcotics, Firearms, & Explosives, the Bureau of Security & Intelligence, and local police forces has resulted in the the seizure of multiple trucks carrying illegal drugs & weapons in the eastern salient region as well as numerous arrests. At a press conference in Al-Kiba today, a BNFE spokesperson stated that the operation, codenamed Operation Roadrunner, succeeded in capturing 12 metric tonnes of opium & heroin and 5.5 tonnes of hashish. An undisclosed quantity of ephedra (a plant which has legitimate medicinal purposes, but can also be used in the clandestine manufacture of methamphetamine) was also seized. The BNFE managed to trace at least one shipment of opium back to an illicit poppy field in the valleys of the Itajaro Mountains, which was later destroyed by aerial herbicide spraying.

In addition to the flow of drugs emerging out of the poppy & cannabis fields of the salient region, the operation also intercepted shipments of weapons headed into the region. The spokesperson stated that they had found Kalashnikov assault rifles, light & heavy machine guns, RPG launchers, and mortars inside some of the trucks. This has raised concern among some national security experts as a possible preclude to revived insurgent activity in the eastern salient: Non-human rebel groups and local warlords in the region had previously used drug trafficking to finance armed campaigns during their long-running insurgencies between 1975-1998 and 2009-2017. The BNFE & BSI would not comment on whether they had discovered any signs of rebel activities during their operations, but stated that they would step up enforcement activities to prevent "terrorists and bandits" from obtaining weapons. The Etheinian Armed Forces also later confirmed that they would contribute scout helicopters & drones to assist with anti-trafficking operations.

New national cancer institute opens in Kiraz
The Herczeg-Gérard Memorial Cancer Center has opened its doors to patients in Kiraz, after spending more than two years under construction. The new institute is designed to not only be a world-class hospital for the comprehensive treatment of cancer, but also a state-of-the-art research facility to develop better cures for this dreaded disease. It features 750 inpatient beds, 36 operating rooms, 80 chemotherapy rooms, and extensive facilities for radiation therapy (including 6 "Gamma Knife" radiosurgery machines and an 8 million volt linear accelerator). The research division will be partnered with the University of Etheinia, Kiraz, and field the latest in targeted drug treatments, immunotherapies, gene therapies, and anti-cancer vaccines. A Community Outreach Clinic is also being opened to ensure high-quality care in the outpatient setting and contribute to cancer prevention & early detection efforts.

The Center expects to treat up to 150,000 patients a year, and will also admit foreign patients from friendly countries for treatment(although Etheinian citizens will be given priority on waiting lists). Additionally, oncology residency positions are being offered to medical students from The Controlist Ferwerter Union, Sadripoor, Izakuria, and Makko Oko, with student loan relief & housing vouchers attached to sweeten the deal.

Introduction
Weapons of mass destruction have a long and storied use in Etheinian military history, stretching back long before the establishment of the modern UFE. During the time of feudal city-states in the medieval era, besieging armies would fling disease-ridden sheep carcasses over castle walls to sicken the residents inside, while the defenders would light smokepots containing a mixture of sulfur, quicklime, and rosin to gas any attackers trying to tunnel under the walls. Similar smokepots would be used to disperse striking miners during the 1800s.

Chemical & biological weapons were developed extensively by all sides during the Thirty Years War, being used in an attempt to break the stalemate in the trenches, as well as to poison enemy food & water supplies and terrorize the civilian population. Although the peace agreement signed at the end of the war nominally prohibited the use, production, or stockpiling of all WMDs, multiple parties violated these terms by maintaining secret WMD caches and even conducting rudimentary research into nuclear weapons. After unification, this research would be compiled to create an accelerated national program for nuclear development.

The first Etheinian nuclear weapon, an air-dropped plutonium implosion bomb codenamed Sirius, was successfully tested on February 28th, 1974. Between 1975 and 2005 the military would conduct an additional 345 tests and develop a full nuclear triad of ICBMs, SLBMs, and manned bombers. It would also pour resources into developing improved chemical & biological weapons, such as the Novichok series of nerve agents and genetically-engineered strands of anthrax, brucellosis, and rinderpest.

Etheinian military doctrine incorporates nuclear, biological, and chemical warfare as a key component of any large-scale campaign. Etheinian ground troops receive extensive training in surviving and fighting in heavily contaminated environments, and protection against NBC conditions is built into many vehicles. An extensive array of delivery systems is maintained to deploy these weapons with maximum lethality against enemy troops and minimal risk to friendly troops. Futhermore, detailed modeling by military planners is performed prior to an engagement to determine the effectiveness of various WMDs across many types of potential battlefields.

This document details the current capabilities of the Etheinian Armed Forces in nuclear, biological, and chemical warfare, the potential applications of these weapons in a future war, and the overarching doctrine for their use. It also explores the methods & equipment it would use to protect its own troops against enemy NBC capabilities.

Nuclear warfare

Strategic:

The general doctrine for strategic nuclear warfare has not changed substantially over 50+ years. As noted above, Etheinia maintains a triad of silo-launched & road-mobile intercontinental ballistic missiles, nuclear ballistic missile submarines, and manned strategic bombers to deliver its nuclear warheads. Currently 1101 nuclear warheads are in the inventory of the National Space & Strategic Forces, of which 702 are reserved exclusively for the strategic role. This is a considerable decrease from their peak inventory of 4600 warheads in 1993.

Although various technological improvements such as missile penaids, maneuverable warheads, and improved rocket engines have enhanced the capabilities of Etheinia's strategic arsenal, few have changed the overall procedure for their employment: As with most countries, the President(or a designated successor) retains sole authority to order a nuclear strike. When he does, various methods are used to disseminate authorization codes to launch crews, who then follow a predesignated strike list to attack enemy targets.

The two innovations which have significantly impacted nuclear strategy are as follows:

-Digital missile guidance computers: Digital electronics allow missile guidance systems to store multiple potential strike plans and be rapidly reprogrammed when needed. A modern ICBM can now be programmed with up to a dozen different warplans, whereas an older one could only store one or two. This ensures a flexible response even under rapidly-changing conditions. For example, if a previously friendly nation suddenly becomes hostile (e.g. due to a coup), Etheinian strategic forces can quickly reorient themselves for a response against this new threat, without having to worry about a vulnerable window while guidance systems are being adjusted.

-Automated launch command systems: The Perimeter or "Dead Hand" system was implemented in the 1980s over concerns that increasingly precise missiles could be used in a decapitation attack against Etheinian leadership targets, thus leaving no-one in command with authority to launch a second strike; Perimeter was designed to allay these fears by providing a "fail-deadly" backup that preserves Etheinian second-strike capabilities even under the heaviest possible attack. It also reduces the likelihood that trigger-happy officials will overreact to a false alarm by ensuring security of response, thus providing additional time for cooler heads to prevail.

The system, which is usually only turned on in times of crisis, monitors various sensor parameters to detect a nuclear strike on Etheinian soil. If it determines that a strike has occured, it then checks the status of various communication links between command centers (such as the Citadel of the Federation, the Chief of Staff HQ, and the Mount Virgil Operations Complex) and launch sites. If these links are intact and still broadcasting, Perimeter assumes that an official with authority to order a counterattack is still available, and holds its fire; if all normal comms are dead and a certain period of time has elapsed, Perimeter takes charge and transmits the authorization codes to human launch operators itself, bypassing the normal chain of command entirely. Obviously a system with such immense power must be tightly controlled, so Perimeter is built with an extreme degree of security & redundancy in mind, and is monitored by human supervisors when activated to ensure an accidental launch cannot occur.

With the benefit of the above technologies, the Etheinian National Space & Strategic Forces has compiled strike lists on at least 18 different nations, including nations that are considered allies of the UFE or that don't even possess a nuclear program. These strike lists are regularly revised with updated intelligence on each nation's counterforce(e.g. missile silos, airbases, submarine pens, and anti-missile defense systems) and countervalue(e.g. cities & other civilian concentrations) targets. Computer models are used to determine the efficacy of various different plans to pick the best one. Any situation in which strategic nuclear weapons are used is automatically considered under military doctrine to be a MAD scenario, and therefore they would not be deployed for the purposes of assisting the conventional armed forces.

Tactical:

Tactical nuclear weapons were originally considered to be a crucial component of Etheinian operations in the event of a major conventional war. The general strategy would be to use massed tactical strikes to devastate enemy defenses, then send in mobile ground forces to take advantage of the confusion & disruption, seizing huge swaths of territory in a lightning-quick offensive. Short- & medium-range ballistic missiles, fighter-bomber aircraft, and even nuclear artillery would be used in this role.

By the mid 80s however, many generals were questioning the wisdom of such a plan, arguing that these weapons would leaving nothing but scarred, irradiated wastelands for them to conquer, and that such a blithe use of tactical strikes would almost certainly invite retaliation with strategic weapons(thus leading to a MAD scenario). Advances in military technologies during the 90s allowed conventional weapons to achieve similar results with much less risk & collateral damage, and by the 21st century tactical nuclear forces had been reduced by more than 85%. The use of these weapons are now heavily de-emphasized in military planning outside of a few highly specific scenarios.

Current Etheinian military doctrine identifies three potential roles for tactical nuclear forces:
1)- To augment or preempt attacks by the strategic forces
2)- To respond in kind to the use of tactical nuclear weapons by an adversary without having to escalate to strategic weapons
3)- Under extremely limited circumstances, to support the objectives of conventional forces. For example, to destroy a command & control bunker invulnerable to conventional explosives, or to defeat massed infantry formations who possess overwhelming numerical superiority

Of the 1101 warheads in the inventory of the National Space & Strategic Forces, 128 are reserved exclusively for the tactical role, while an additional 271 are considered flexible response weapons that can be used for either tactical or strategic purposes. Delivery options include both ballistic and cruise missiles. Many tactical weapons have variable-yield warheads, allowing for the impact of each strike to be adjusted to the needs of the situation. Initial authority to authorize tactical nuclear strikes lies with the President; after he provides the initial OK, the Chiefs of Staff can then either order each strike individually, or delegate authority to field commanders and let them determine which targets to strike themselves.

Radiological weapons - including enhanced radiation "neutron bombs" and novel agents such as Polonium-210 - are not categorized separately from other WMDs, instead being listed as a subset of tactical nuclear weapons. The Etheinian Armed Forces has placed comparatively little effort into developing radiological weapons, reserving them for niche applications only. Examples of these uses include assassinations, contamination of food supplies, and neutralizing infantry formations while leaving materiel intact.

Biological warfare

The Etheinian Armed Forces currently possesses a stockpile of at least 30,000 metric tonnes of biological weapons, including pathogenic microbes, biological toxins, and novel agents. These can be deployed via multiple methods, such as ground generators, venting rockets, aircraft spray devices, low-explosive cluster bombs, and specialist infantry devices. Vector agents such as mosquitoes, fleas, ticks, lice, and rats can also be disseminated across hostile territories. Approval to use biological weapons requires either a unanimous decision by the National Unity Council and the Chiefs of Staff, or emergency authorization on behalf of the President. Once approved, biological attacks would be extensively preplanned using up-to-date intelligence to achieve maximum effect before being executed by field commanders.

Biological weapons offer several key advantage to Etheinian forces in offensive & defensive operations, including:
-Discrete deployment, which increases the element of surprise
-The capability to effectively cover large areas with relatively small quantities of agents
-The ability to vaccinate or pre-treat friendly forces to minimize risk
-The ability to neutralize enemy facilities without having to destroy them, thus allowing them to be captured, decontaminated, and reoccupied
-Via contagious outbreaks, the ability to create massive casualties against concentrated troop formations, or among defenders occupying close quarters such as trench systems and urban areas
-The option to efficiently destroy enemy food supplies during a prolonged war, thus reducing their will & ability to fight
-Psychological impact of confusion, panic, and terror among both troops and the civilian population

Pathogenic microbes consist of bacteria, viruses, and fungi, and include such disease-causing agents as smallpox, anthrax, tularemia, brucellosis, and Q fever. It also includes agents designed to produce disease in plants (e.g. potato blight, wheat stem rust) and livestock (e.g. rinderpest, African swine fever) for anti-agriculture purposes. Because they require somewhat more time to spread & take effect, microbes would most likely be used against strategic targets, such as enemy rear areas, logistical/support forces, supply lines, theater targets such as airbases & naval ports, and important population centers.

Biological toxins include compounds such as ricin, saxitoxin, botulinum toxin, aflatoxins, and T-2 mycotoxin. Some of these substances are acutely poisonous and can kill or incapacitate within minutes, while others are slow-moving and insidiously cause damage over the course of weeks or months. The former group of "fast" agents would primarily be used against tactical targets such as forward areas, defensive fortifications, and open fire support positions in a similar manner to chemical weapons. The latter group of "slow" agents would be used against strategic targets, particularly food & water supplies. Both types of agents could also be used for assassinations and other covert operations.

Novel agents include all weapons which do not fall into the former two categories. An example of this would be Baylisascaris procyonis, a parasitic roundworm which causes brain damage if ingested by humans and is highly resistant to water disinfection methods. A single agent carrying a packet of Baylisascaris eggs could contaminate the water supply of an entire town and then escape months before the residents would notice anything wrong. Other novel agents could include prions or invasive plant & animal species.

Chemical warfare

The Etheinian Armed Forces currently possesses a stockpile of at least 75,000 metric tonnes of chemical weapons, including irritant, choking, blood, blister, nerve, and psycho-chemical agents. Deployment of chemical weapons can be performed using various methods, including artillery shells & rockets, tactical ballistic missiles, cruise missiles, aerial bombs, aircraft spray devices, landmines, and infantry weapons such as hand grenades. Approval to use chemical weapons has lower requirements than nuclear or biological weapons; only a simple majority by the Chiefs of Staff or National Unity Council is required for authorization. Commanders at the battalion, regiment, and division levels would also have greater freedom in using these weapons to achieve their objectives.

Similar to biological weapons, chemical agents offer many distinct advantages to Etheinian forces during battlefield operations, including:
-The potential to produce mass casualties against unprotected/unprepared troops
-Enhanced performance against soldiers in common fortifications when compared to conventional weapons
-The ability to pre-treat friendly forces against some agents to minimize risk
-The ability to neutralize enemy facilities without having to destroy them, thus allowing them to be captured, decontaminated, and reoccupied
-The capability for large-scale area denial through the use of persistent chemical agents
-Psychological impact of confusion, panic, and terror among both troops and the civilian population

Etheinian military doctrine classifies chemical weapons by both their method of action and their environmental persistence. The six categories of chemical action are detailed below:

-Irritant agents, such as the CN, CS, and CR tear gases, causes temporary blindness and painful irritation of the skin, eyes, and mucous membranes. Because these agents are non-lethal and easy to deploy, they will likely be used for riot suppression & counterinsurgency operations in occupied areas, as well as for flushing out tunnels & small bunkers.

-Choking agents, such as phosgene, chloropicrin, and PFIB, damage the lining of the lungs when inhaled, causing them to fill with fluid. Death usually occurs within 12 to 24 hours of exposure. Choking agents are less preferred to other, more lethal agents. They would likely be used as part of a mixed chemical barrage against tactical targets in frontal areas.

-Blood agents such as cyanogen chloride cause generalized poisoning when inhaled and absorbed into the bloodstream, resulting in convulsions, paralysis, and death by cardiac arrest within a few minutes. Probable uses would include clearing out enemy fortifications and as part of a mixed barrage against tactical targets in forward areas.

-Blister agents, such as sulfur mustard and lewisite, produce painful skin burns, blistering, and permanent blindness. In survivors, they can also cause long-term damage to the immune system. Symptoms may be delayed for a few hours after exposure, with peak effects generally reached in 24 hours. Uses could include semi-persistent area denial, producing casualties amongst entrenched defenders, and screening advancing forces against flanking attacks

-Nerve agents, which include 1st generation G-agents such as sarin, tabun, and soman, 2nd generation V-agents such as VX, and 3rd generation Novichok agents such as A-234, all work by disrupting the enzyme acetylcholinesterase. This results in vomiting, convulsions, and respiratory arrest; death occurs a few minutes after inhalation, ingestion, or skin absorption. Nerve agents would be used for various purposes depending on their persistence & properties; these would include mixed barrages against tactical targets in forward areas, neutralization of large facilities such as airfields, persistent area denial, and attacks on enemy rear areas & supply lines.

-Psycho-chemical agents, such as BZ, affect various chemical receptors in the brain. Although rarely lethal, they produce hallucinations and mental disturbances which will severely degrade the combat effectiveness of exposed soldiers. These agents are reserved for niche applications. An example use could be incapacitating the officers of an enemy command post so that they can be easily captured for interrogation.

The persistency of each agent is also considered an important factor in their combat application. Nonpersistent agents disperse within 5 to 60 minutes of deployment; Semi-persistent agents are effective for between 2 and 48 hours; and Persistent agents can remain effective for days or even weeks after deployment. These properties may be exploited to suit a commander's needs. An example is the highly potent "chemical wall" tactic, which uses artillery to saturate an enemy's front lines with nonpersistent agents(such as phosgene and sarin) while aircraft and tactical missiles disperse persistent agents(such as mustard gas and VX) across their rear areas. The nonpersistent gases, launched ahead of the planned advance, will produce heavy initial casualties amongst front-line defenders while dispersing quickly enough that friendly troops will not be affected. The persistent agents in the rear, meanwhile, will delay or halt the arrival of reinforcements and limit possible routes of retreat, thus trapping the enemy forces.

NBC reconnaissance, protection, & decontamination capabilities

The ability for Etheinian troops to operate in any environment, including an environment that has been heavily contaminated by friendly or enemy NBC weapons, is considered to be an essential element of their combat effectiveness. NBC conditions are not seen merely as a temporary threat to be dealt with, but instead as a critical component of modern military operations; therefore, NBC operations are integrated into every level of the Etheinian Armed Forces. Military commanders believe that these extensive preparations will allow Etheinian soldiers to fight for longer & harder on the contaminated battlefield than any of their opponents, which could provide a crucial edge in future wars.

There are currently between 60,000 and 80,000 Etheinian soldiers assigned to the Nuclear, Biological & Chemical Warfare service. In the Etheinian National Army, there is an NBC reconnaissance squad in each battalion; an NBC protection company in each regiment; an NBC protection battalion in each division; and additional NBC elements at the corps and field army levels. All Etheinian soldiers receive training on NBC protection during boot camp, and are required to take periodic refresher courses. Every six months, all active soldiers are required to run a half-mile in full combat gear while wearing their gas masks to demonstrate that they can operate effectively in protective equipment.

All front-line troops carry a PMK-4 or PMK-S gas mask, and are issued a CB-80M protective suit if contaminated conditions are expected. Compared to older models, this modern protective gear is considerably lighter and more comfortable to wear, while still providing protection against all known chemical & biological agents. Supplemental protection can be provided through the RN-100, a lead-lined overgarment which fits over the standard CB-80M suit and provides protection against radiation. However, the RN-100 is rather bulky and only issued in limited quantities. In addition to protective gear, each individual soldier is issued a IPP-95 personal decontamination kit and a DuoDote nerve agent antidote autoinjector. Platoon medics carry additional DuoDote autoinjectors as well as a cyanide antidote kit and potassium iodide tablets(for protection against radioactive fallout). In some cases, troops may receive pre-treatment with drugs such as pyridostigmine before entering battle to increase their resistance against certain agents.

Many Etheinian combat vehicles, including all tanks and IFVs, and most APCs, recon vehicles, self-propelled guns, and self-propelled SAM launchers, are equipped with collective NBC protection systems. These systems use a combination of air filtration and overpressure to prevent outside contaminants from entering the crew compartment of the vehicle. Collective protection allows crews to operate in contaminated environments without the need to wear protective gear inside their vehicles, significantly enhancing their combat effectiveness. Etheinian tanks and IFVs also feature anti-radiation shielding & liners integrated into their armor.

To detect the presence of NBC contamination, infantry troops can be equipped with the GSP-11M2 portable gas alarm, the DPV radiation dosimeter, and the VPKhR sample testing kit. This is augmented in NBC reconnaissance detachments by specialized vehicles such as the RKhM-6, BRDM-2RKhb, and KDKhR-1N. These vehicles are equipped with automated detection & analysis sensors and are able to rapidly communicate warnings to friendly troops in the area. Some NBC recon vehicles are also equipped with long-range laser sensors which can detect contaminants from a standoff distance of between 3 to 7 kilometers. The Mi-24R, a specialized variant of the Mi-24 helicopter gunship, can assist ground operations by collecting & analyzing samples ahead of the front of advancing forces.

Decontamination/disinfection of equipment & personnel is perfomed at mobile roadside decon points, divisional decontamination stations, or at dedicated facilities in forward operating bases. Under ideal circumstances, decontamination is performed no more than 1 hour after a unit leaves combat. On entering the decon station, vehicles are decontaminated first by TMS-65 and UTM-80M machines while crews remain inside. Next, the troops disembark, drop off their weapons for cleaning, and head immediately to the DDA-66 trucks for showers & uniform sanitization. After showering, a brief medical check is performed, and additional hygienic measures such as a mouth rinse may be done. NBC protection troops then perform additional cleaning of equipment as needed using ARS-14KM trucks. A standard NBC protection company can decontaminate 960 soldiers, 75 tanks/AFVs, and 120 artillery pieces in 1 hour using this method.

Medical corpsmen receive specialized training in diagnosing and treating injuries from nuclear, biological, and chemical weapons. Regimental medical posts, divisional medical battalions, and field hospitals have dedicated sections for treating chemical & radiation casualties, and for the control of infectious diseases. On the civil defense side, the Etheinian government enforces a comprehensive vaccination program to minimize the risk of epidemic disease spread from a biological attack. In addition, the nation's hospitals maintain a strategic reserve of over 25 million doses of antidotes for cyanide, lewisite, and nerve gas poisoning, as well as potassium iodide tablets, decontamination solutions, and essential antibiotics & antivirals. The government has contingency plans to distribute gas masks and other protective equipment to civilians in times of emergency.

Conclusion
It is readily apparent from military doctrine that the Etheinian Armed Forces place great importance on nuclear, biological, and chemical warfare as a component of combat operations. NBC operations are fully integrated into overall combined arms operations, and preparations for fighting on a contaminated battlefield are taken into account when planning any mission. Etheinia is continuously refining the capabilities of its NBC forces, and in the future we can expect weapons with enhanced effectiveness to enter service, alongside novel agents which provide unique options to attack the enemy. Tactics for employment may change as the modern battlefield continues to evolve, but the overall doctrine of NBC warfare will remain part of Etheinian military planning for the foreseeable future.

Personal addendum(8/5/2022): As of last week, the NUC has voted to again expand the nation's WMD stockpile as part of the general increase to defense spending. As a result, the statistics in this document will likely become outdated. I suspect, however, that the lessons on strategy will only grow more relevant as conflicts flare up across this increasingly chaotic world.

It comes to my knowledge that the glorious Khovezzem has denounced the actions of our dear friend in Exsorcial.
I, personally, would like to discuss the mutual relations between Khovezzem and Izakuria in ending the crisis this great world is in.
This meeting will be held in Lonoso whenever you are available to meet.

Sincerely, Nikolai Tarnev."

Nikolai, seeing this as sufficient, would send this on over to the lady (I think) at the foreign affairs office in Khovezzem.

To the Office of the Esteemed Nikolai Tarnev, President of Izakuria

The great Autocrat has heard your request for an assembly of dignitaries to discuss the Exsorcialian threat. The Autocrat agrees that the threat of Infinite Father is dire and is willing to see this threat addressed in great detail. The Khovezi Ambassador to Izakuria, Ms. Nadagii Khaziim, will represent Khovezzem in these meetings. Given the gravity of the threat the Secretariat of Peace has seen fit to send along Ms. Vohenazii Khoremazegii, Supreme Commander of the Armed Forces of Khovezzem, in order to offer strategic insight into the Exsorcialian threat and potential means to counter it. The Autocratic State takes great interest in the global threat posed by Exsorcial and is willing to do whatever it takes to neutralize this threat accordingly. The Autocrat is therefor pleased to find an ally in Izakuria in the pursuit of world peace.

Information regarding the entourages' security detail has been forwarded to your Ambassador, Mr. Arov Zechovin, at the Izakurian Embassy with instructions to pass on this information to the appropriate agencies. Glory to Khovezzem; Glory to Izakuria; Doom to Exsorcial.

The representative would have been carefully selected for this process. They and their entourage would have been hand-picked for the application process behind the scenes. Touching down in Rhovez would be a group of 6 staff members, one of them being the representative. Four of the six- including the representative- were conventionally attractive, young, somewhat boyish males that bordered on slightly effeminate. One was a powerful-looking older woman, and one was an elegant and dainty young woman. The cult members were racially diverse, with the men numbering two Suraiyan, one Carytonic and one African-Carytonic. The older-looking woman was of no specific origin, and the more traditional-looking frilly younger woman was clearly of Carytonic origin.

Regardless of age or skin color, Ariano had clearly opted for a beauty campaign. The matching yellow kurtas complimented their unusually glowing, healthy, and supple features. They were beaming with joy- or indoctrination- holding hands as they entered the administrative building behind their representative- the African-Carytonic male. The group would stay in the impressive sleek waiting room as the representative of the Church would go on, probably to strike up a conversation with the locals.

The representative, oddly- was not made uncomfortable during the waiting process. Normally, any person in a cold room with cameras and one-way glass would appear clammy. He was calm. Unbeknownst to the foreigners, many mid-tier and above Church members' ascetic training involved mocked-up interrogation conditions, and how to mitigate them. So when the professional-looking bureaucrat stepped inside, all he did was lift his eyes from the fixed point on the wall and smile to greet the folder-bearing man.

His eyes were a deep mahogany, hair short and buzz-cut, and his youthful face was accented by invigorated eyes and a strong jawline. The representative simply waited until he was asked his name.

"Tyson Nebbins." A silky baritone, simple and to-the-point.

The man in the suit began to write on the pad in his hand. Whatever he was writing it was more than the man's name. Though the one-way glass reflected the contents of the notepad, the man in the suit wrote in such small lettering they weren't eligible through the reflection. He stopped thereafter, and remained silent for a few minutes as he stared at the pad - his eyes darting across it reading over what he had written at least twice. Without looking up from his pad he asked his second question.

"Explain in detail the organization of your institution. How is your hierarchy structured and what are the responsibilities of each position?" the man's eyes looked up at Mr. Nebbins as his head remained stationary. "Do not leave out any details, no matter how insignificant they may seem." he said, maintaining his glare before his eyes returned to the pad. His voice betrayed no emotion, though his emphasis on 'not' suggested this was a warning.

Outside in the waiting room the atmosphere was different. The sleek and practical room with modernist decor was large, empty, and eerily quiet. Aside from the guards dressed in full tactical gear and armed with full-auto rifles there was a single receptionist sitting behind a large desk and staring at a computer. Every now and then someone in a suit would come through the area, either exiting through one of the doors or entering through it and walking down one of the halls. No one stayed for long, and in spite of the large number of seating available there was no one else in the room besides the guards, receptionist, and the Positivists. There was little else of interest in the minimalist room besides the magazines laying on top of the coffee tables. Their contents reflected the usual things: fashion, cooking, dating, sports and the like. Perhaps the most 'interesting' ones (from a foreigners' perspective) were the ones on hunting, as hunting in the wastelands of Khovezzem was a very different affair when compared to 'normal' countries. Even so it was unlikely the Positivists could read them; they were all in Khovezi, and the isolation of Khovezzem from the world for over a hundred years left the language neglected in the foreign universities where it might have been otherwise taught. Of course whether the Positivists could understand Khovezi wasn't relevant. The magazines weren't placed there specifically for them.

In spite of their eccentric dress making them stand out, the Khovezi didn't seem to pay any mind to the foreigners. On the streets there had been the occasional glance of curiosity from random pedestrians but the Khovezi inside were clearly of a different stock, speaking volumes to the work that occurred at the Rhovez Administrative Building - particularly by those in Civil Protection. It wasn't easy to forget that this place served as more than just city hall.

Sins of the Prophet

The church of positivity

Unbeknownst to the rapidly growing Church of Positivity, their tangle with the Suraiyan government did not end with the Ariano Hearings. As with all bureaucracies, things move slowly for the State. But the relative silence of the government in the months after the hearings does not indicate a period of inaction.

The IIA’s Religious Extremism and Cult Investigation Section, under the leadership of Kuvatri Mahasathep Sundrataporn, has continued it’s investigation into the Church’s conduct in Suraiya. Agents Sindit Panjasomtrichai and Chai Sarhad Sukrachanowit have traveled around the country interviewing current and former members of what the scattered bit of information they gather progressively looks more and more like a cult.

Now, the thin trail of breadcrumbs points to the expansion of Dojos and purchasing of land in Zamboodle, a rogue state that has engaged in acts of piracy against Suraiyan shipping in the past.

The Strategic Intelligence Agency and National Auditing Administration of the Ministry of Interior Affairs are enlisted to send embedded IIA agents in Suraiya to the Dojos of Zamboodle—acting as missionaries for the Church of Positivity—while the NAA launches a more intensive investigation of the Church’s cashflow and tax records.

It wasn't easy to forget that this place served as more than just city hall.

The representative folded his hands and entered a brief state of thinking, recollecting the details as to seemingly follow the examiner's request. He'd half-expected a general question like this, so he began after around three or four seconds:

"The leader of the church, the guru and prophet oversees the leadership and organization of the church's government, and is the face and figurehead of the movement. We believe him to be an ascended master, and all final authority in regards to ecclesiastical matters or spiritual counseling is delegated to him."

He went on.

"He has created various ministries and appoints ministers to them. The objective of this is to ensure that the church is totally self-reliant as an organization financially, politically, socially- and maintain total cohesion across the world. Because of this organizational control, the Church in Caryton will be the same as the Church in Suraiya. This is a model of efficiency and eliminates the potential for scandal, insubordination, or corruption that one might see in a more devolved faith structure."

A centralized and self-sufficient organization.

"In total, there are nine ministries. As you know, the Ministry of World Peace oversees public relations and ecclesiastical growth. The Ministry of Health controls church-run clinics that provide medical services to members free of charge and treats non-members at reduced price, at the church's discretion. You may see this in the form of our addiction survival training sessions. The Ministry of Finance oversees finances, accounting, record-keeping, and the management of tithes, member estates and income generated from church-owned properties to delegate to the growth of the Church and the maintenance of its facilities and members. The Ministry of Provisions oversees church farms and food distribution. The Ministry of Science is the church's research-and-development wing. The Ministry of Law is the Church's legal wing and manages the legal entities of the organization. The Ministry of Humanity is the charity wing.

The Ministry of Education is the spiritual and lifeskills educational wing of the church, and is divided based on education level, from nursery to specialized post-graduate education. The Church has a policy of prioritizing education so it doesn't have to rely on the outside world for specialized labor. This model is highly effective for reducing the burden on the host nations' finances, and does not take local jobs. We further the education of our members, particularly with interest in those with any amount of collegiate education- from drop-out and those too poor to otherwise afford it, to post-grad, by giving them a job where the outside world may see them as under-or-over-qualified.

The Ministry of the Interior regulates the church membership and cohesion of values. The Ministry of Media produces church media material, recruitment campaigns, reading, videos, music, and the like. The animation studio is quite good, and looks very promising."

A pause to ensure the material could be properly recorded. Tyson didn't mention the classified details- like how the Ministry of Science had been in secret cahoots with the Ferwerter government in the production of chemical and biological weapons, but not even the prying eyes of Khovezzem would have known about their agreement.

"Each ministry has a minister, and a small council of subordinates, each subordinate heading a specific wing of the ministry. The bureaucratic process then trickles down into localized matters. Your standard unit will be what we call a dojo. A dojo can range in size, being as small as a three-story commercial property or as large as an apartment complex. There members live communally, and have all of their localized needs provided to them. A dojo will have a nursery, dormitory areas, kitchens, assembly and prayer rooms, an infirmary, a study, and similar rooms. Those residing in smaller dojos typically journey to larger ones with more complicated facilities. In areas where member concentration is low or dojo demand is too high, the Church will create sub-dojos in individual apartment units or members' houses."

Grand Prince Tours Countryside to Highlight Economic Inequality

KHON NGAI—Grand Prince Nath Khalat Kannem of Nasapore and Hajatra began his first official trip since being married to His Majesty on Sunday. A spokesman for His Highness said the Grand Prince would focus on economic inequality and poverty in the Suraiyan countryside, where the majority of the population lives in harsh conditions.

Speaking to a crowd in the village of Lanhoi, several miles north of Khon Kaen, His Highness expressed his commitment to economic reforms and humanitarian programs to bring about equality and opportunity for the rural poor. “If Suraiya created the system that oppresses you, Suraiya can certainly build a new system that uplifts you.”

It is unusual for a member of the royal family to criticize the Suraiyan government, though the Grand Prince was careful to place blame for the economic inequality on an ineffective General Estate rather than His Majesty the King.

General Estate organizes Special Committee on Military Oversight

SURADAO—Ranking members of the Charan party announced plans to form a “Special Committee on Military Oversight” to investigate the military’s extensive budget. Anonymous whistleblowers have long alleged that the military used lobbyists, blackmail, and bribes to force the government into passing numerous defense budget increases over the past 13 years.

With about 4% of it’s economy dedicated to defense, Suraiya is the largest military spender in Aurelia. Over the past 20 years, the Suraiyan military has transformed from a large, disorganized conscript force to a high-tech and lethal war machine. But that progress has come at the cost of investments into healthcare, education, and financial aid for Suraiya’s hundreds of millions of rural poor.

The vote to form the committee was only made possible my a group of 16 representatives from the Sinn Hind who voted across the isle with the Charan. Though both parties are far more liberal than the Samnat Raj, the Sinn Hind has been more reluctant to cut military spending, and remains quietly supportive of Prime Minister Pramdishat Ananda. The division signals the beginning of a crack in the so-called Gold Coalition that has swept the General Estate since the resignation of former Prime Minister Ashurapal Chakrivati and her Samnat Raj government.

In a landslide of events, like family dinners casting out members of their flag opinions, and neighborhoods having to evict members because of their chosen flag, a new flag has been chosen. This flag has been inspired by one of the flags of Faristania which included a black saltire and a white emblem in the middle.

Providence Coast Guard of Caryton victorious in paraphernalia interception!

HEIDISTOWN, SOUTHERN AUTHORITY || The city of Heidistown- noted special industrial zone of the nation and famed tourist destination- has seen its usual boom in summer activity. In the midst of the concourses of foreign tourists, high-school and collegiate students on break, and vacationing families specifically crossing the Sunwater Channel to partake in a warm and beach-focused summer, the locals of Heidistown typically see a strong boost in revenue.

Unfortunately, the presence of foreigners and vulnerable youths typically means good business for foreign saboteurs and domestic apostates. The Spiritual Republic's traditionally zero-tolerance policy on items made illegal by the Prohibition Act has been for the most part successful. In most other countries in which Prohibition has been tried, the respective authorities have seen mass amounts of civil disobedience. Fortunately for national and theocratic leaders, the unique conditions of Caryton's government being inseparable from the Church- and first-hand accounts of the evils of the prohibited items from the days of Alta- there is little desire by the majority of people to break this sacred and most principled way of Carytonic culture.

Still, the conspirators called by Satan have decided to prey on our youth and our weakest members of society in an attempt to ruin our way of our livelihoods. There is a secret small-scale demand for a black-market which the Spiritual Republic has fiercely fought against for years. Caryton has seen many small victories, compounding over time. This culminates in the latest victory over the apostates, by way of the brave servicemen and servicewomen of the Providence Coast Guard.

A ship masquerading as a private cruise off the eastern shores of Heidistown had been tipped off by an insider to the authorities. After waiting until nightfall, the ship was tracked by radar as it left view of the island, heading north. In a scheduled ambush, the ship would be stopped by a squad of torpedo boats and one AH-6 Little Bird helicopter. The coast guard boarded and found a harrowing sight. The cruise ship was a party ship, whose entire lower deck had been converted into a storage space for the following illegal items:

A room full of cocaine and crystal methamphetamine

Several rooms full of unmarked prescription drugs

Several hallways full of marijuana, tobacco products, and alcohol

USB drives, magazines, and images of pornography, including homosexual pornography likely originating from Sadripoor or Izakuria and animated pornography originating from Island Zero, likely obtained from these nations and sold second-hand.

Birth control and condoms.

After calling reinforcements, the party ship was discovered to be hosting both Carytonic and international civilians partaking in substances and illicit sexual acts. Over 800 arrests were made. Excommunication for Carytonic offenders was immediate. Foreign offenders will be tried in Caryton summarily. Their expatriation may not be guaranteed if the host nation does not consider the charges Caryton does illegal. In the bridge, directions for Rainfall City- local garrison of the fleet of Khovezzem - were found.

OOC: Anybody is welcome to claim nationals from their countries were included in the arrest.

The materials were all burned at sea as a display of resolve. Once it was ensured that the materials were thoroughly torched, the cruise ship would have been sunk by the torpedo boats to ensure the criminals could not recover it. Local congregations of the Gospel Church of Caryton and officers of the PCGC have begun measures to reward the brave servicepeople involved in the catch. The country-sellers' and vile anti-Christians' morale has been sunk like their vessels!

Sanctuary Point wrote:“I… see. It is unfortunate that your time with us has to end so abruptly. I had intended for a special meeting after a visit to the church during regular services but your… revelations are a great deal more serious then my momentary desires.” She stood, taking the icon and placing it in one of Rainbow’s pockets. “Please, take that and the bottle with you before you go at least. I’d have had more to give if we had time to properly see you off but I get the feeling time is of the essence now.” Alula turned and headed out of the room. “Allow me to see you to your ship, General.”

Rainbow stared at Alula for a couple of seconds before giving her the tiniest of nods. Then, without saying a word, she turned and headed outside. It didn't go unnoticed to Alula that the Equestrian General took creat care to secure both the bottle of Ambrosia and the icon in her pocket.

As soon as she was able, Rainbow spread her wings and jumped into the sky, beginning an uncharacteristically unsteady flight towards the airship waiting outside New Elysium. The rest of the General's entourage had been waiting outside, and they hurried after their leader, clearly confused about this latest turn of events. Some of them were whispering to each other and giving odd glances to Rainbow.

Just before she left New Elysium's airspace, Rainbow turned to look at Alula. The focus of her gaze was still somewhere far beyond Alula's forehead, but there was a grim determination in her eyest that hadn't been there before.

She said, "I... don't know what will happen when I meet with Twilight. I hope... everything... will turn out okay. But I fear... it won't be the same again. Ever." She let out a short bitter laugh. "I wonder... When does Loyalty end?"

[HEADLINES] IEC Internal Investigation Finds & Stops Government Theft & Black Market Ring

Category: Law & Order

Today, the IEC in a joint press release with the Emperor's Prosecution Service announced the arrest and indictment of 13 government officials within the Nationality & Citizenship Bureau on the charges of "Theft Of Government Property" and of "Viewing Unauthorized Foreign Websites", which may land each official involved over 40 years in prison. This announcement is on the cusp of growing worries internally within the government of the final outcome of the IEC internal investigation ordered on the entire bureaucracy by Emperor Conall Solis over a month ago.

Supposedly, according to the press release, the ring involved senior staff at a local NCB office, with whom would take the government-owned equipment given to them, and sell them on international black markets for a profit, and then obtain more equipment via reclamations claims through the government's internal channels, where they would then go on to sell again, and it kept going with little to no notice, until the IEC investigation begun. The Emperor said in a statement to OkoTV News that "This arrest was duly necessary, and I, for one, am glad that this was found and finally stopped, before we lost any more money to them. You don't mess with the empire, and you don't mess with the law."

The IEC stated within the press release that "If you were involved or know people who were involved in this, and didn't report it, we're coming for you", insinuating that the IEC may have found leads tracking to non-government civilians. Reports on how the money was spent vary, but directly from the IEC, it is said that the money was used to fund luxurious lifestyles and fund international governments. The CIB is reportedly trying to find the money trail of the ring to see where spending all went to.

All indicted officials are slated to appear in front of the Inspectorate's Court Of Makko Oko in the capital city of Opposh on August 21st, 2022.

MNSN Responds To MKBO, In Talks Of A Buyout

The Makko National Sports Network today officially published a response to MKBO's recent news of wanting to potentially buy them out. MNSN CEO Morris Nantz stated that "We have heard MKBO's recent offer to buy our company out, and are deeply considering it, along with other options. We have nothing more to say on this at this time". Meanwhile, MKBO Comptroller Jared Holladay has stated to OkoTV News that "This is a wonderful boost in progress of a potential buyout that would improve the content library and in all, improve sports program quality within the nation".

If this deal were to go through, it would be slated to be the biggest buyout and merger of a company in the history of the nation, with the last buyout of this size being when MKBO was originally absorbed into the Makko Okoan Government during the era of the republic.
