Description
The matervulpus (colloquially known as wolfmother; lupinmama is a large, quadrupedal and mammal that resembles a wolf or a hyena. Its fur is mainly silvery-gray, and it has a sleek voluminous mane of long black ruffled fur extending all the way down its back, to its tail, which is also long and black-furred. It has black patches of fur below its eyes, and on its forehead. Its legs are black, and it has large sharp-clawed feet. It has upright, pointed ears with black insides, bright red intimidating eyes with yellow sclerae, and slit pupils, a long muzzle, and a large black nose. It has sharp fangs, seen when it opens its mouth and snarls. Matervulpi are typically gray and black, sometimes with a lighter underbody or reddish tints. Some are light gray and white or reddish tan or mixed red and gray. A few are true albinoes. They mostly have golden to green eyes with some having hazel, amber or albino red irises.

An adult matervulpus is as large as a small horse, and can rip a man's arm from its socket. Even a juvenile matervulpus is quite capable of killing a man by ripping out his throat. Physically, they are not simply larger versions of wolves, but have slightly different proportions than their smaller cousins; their heads are larger with a leaner, more pronounced muzzle, their legs are longer in proportion to their body, and they have proportionately larger teeth that are often used to crush bones.

The matervulpus is the largest species of the genus Canis known to have existed, often the size of ponies. Its shape and proportions is similar to those of two modern North American wolves: the Yukon wolf (Canis lupus pambasileus) and the Northwestern wolf (Canis lupus occidentalis). The largest northern wolves today have a shoulder height (SH) of 38 in (97 cm) and a body length (BL) of 69 in (180 cm), whereas matervulpi are SH 60 in (152cm) and BL 91in (231cm)

Behaviour

Matervulpi live in a pack, or ‘clan’ of up to eighty members. As a member of this pack follows the orders of its leader and chases down prey. It gives obvious signals when it is about to attack, as it starts to growl deeply and flattens its body. Matervulpi defeat foes with perfectly coordinated teamwork.

A matervulpus clan is one of the very few female-dominated societies amongst the mammals. It's not too uncommon to find species of insects or fish where the female is bigger than the male, but this is highly unusual for mammals. Female matervulpi are, however, bigger than the males on average, and more aggressive. They also outrank the males in the social hierarchy of the species, to the extent that the lowest ranking female is still considered superior to the highest ranking male. This organized social structure seems to be one of the main factors underpinning the success of the matervulpus as a species. Experiments have indicated that the intelligence of the matervulpus is on a par with that of the primates, and seems to be even greater when it comes to problems requiring co-operation.

Description
An Umbreon has a sleek black body with four slender legs and crimson eyes. There are two pairs of pointed teeth visible when its mouth is open, one in the upper jaw and one in the lower. It has long pointed ears and a bushy tail, each with a yellow band around them. Its forehead and legs have yellow rings on them. Its yellow markings glow at night and strike fear into anyone nearby. It hides in the darkness while waiting for its opponents, and its yellow rings glow when it leaps to attack. It is also capable of spraying a poisonous sweat whenever it gets agitated. it used to be rare in the wild but following a highly successful breeding and conservation programme it has become the most common native animal on Savinecrossed lands, and is more often found in urban areas under the care of people.

Origin

Umbreon's origins are uncertain, though it could be based on a black cat or possibly a black fox, a color variation of the red fox. Its long ears also are similar to those of a hare; numerous East Asian legends concern a Moon rabbit. The rings on Umbreon's body look like Egyptian lunar markings and jewelry that have been associated with animal sculptures, such as cat statues of Bastet and statues of the jackal god, Anubis, from Ancient Egypt. They may also be meant to resemble solar eclipses.

Name origin

Umbreon is a combination of umbra (Latin for shadow and ghost, as well as the English word for the moon's silhouette during a solar eclipse) and eon, a shortened form of evolution, the word also meaning an immeasurably long period of time (possibly referring to how long evolution takes naturally). Eon is a suffix.

The Umbreon Civil War

by The el paso territories

Recently, the El Paso Territories has been embroiled in a devastating civil war, caused by the presence of invasive Savinecrossed Umbreons in the nation. To fully understand how this civil war began, we must first learn how they got to the El Paso Territories.

The first encounter between Pasenos and the Umbreons came in the Eshian military's first peacekeeping operation in Netraucora, a region where Umbreons roam freely. The Paseno unit which was deployed there found themselves enamored with them, and some of the soldiers wound up taking Umbreons home with them as pets.

Later on, talks between the governments of the Eshialand-Galdanulia Union and Grandia Sebastia continued and the two became great allies, culminating in another peacekeeping operation led by the EGU in Netraucora about a month later. This time, the Paseno unit elected to stick around for a while to root out any more insurgents that may have popped up.

While the Pasenos may not have stayed for a very long time during either operation, the Umbreons which they found along the way became ingrained into the Paseno military's ethos, and that trickled down to the civilians as well. Hence, many Pasenos wanted their own Umbreons, and that opened the door to illicit trade and shady pet shops. Of course, this in turn led to more feral Umbreons being released into the wild.

Now, Umbreons can't just breed to get baby Umbreons. Instead, their babies will all be Eevees, and they need a Moon Stone to evolve into Umbreons. However, there are artificial Moon Stones in the Paseno desert.

The reason why is a bit strange. Back in the 1990's, when that part of the El Paso Territories was in the U.S. state of Texas, there were plans for a supercollider in Waxahatchie, just south of Dallas. When the project fell through, the radioactive materials that were going to be used in the supercollider were tossed away into the desert, giving certain rocks there the properties of Moon Stones.

While many, if not most, Pasenos loved the Umbreons, some weren't so accepting, and started shooting Umbreons in the streets. The government, in a bid to protect the Umbreons, declared them the new national animal, which only made the situation worse, with anti-Umbreon protests dotting the country.

At one point, the issue even went all the way to the High Council of the Eshialand-Galdanulia Union, who sided with the government: King William I of Eshialand because he didn't want to sacrifice their good relations with Grandia Sebastia by killing one of their most revered animals, and President Niško Lenije of Galdanulia because he believed in national sovereignty and didn't want to interfere in Paseno affairs.

At this point, the anti-Umbreon protesters organized into an alt-right militant group named "the Panther Coalition" (named for the pre-Umbreon national animal), which declared itself the legitimate Paseno government and began to kill anyone who showed any affection for an Umbreon, sparking the Umbreon Civil War.

At this point, the Panther Coalition controls various cities and towns in the north-east of the country, most notably Dallas-Fort Worth.
