Party Congress – March 10th, 1955

The 1955 Party Congress could be summarised in one word “continuity”. Spectators familiar with the inner workings of the CPCK have told us that an agreement seems to have been reached by those at the top to keep the current composition of the Politburo Standing Committee and the Politburo, By preventing any of the three factions (Conservatives, Reformers, and the Moderates) from changing their standing for the time being. Chen Yun as the leader of the moderates will continue as general secretary and State Chairman.

National People’s Congress – March 15th, 1955

This year’s National People’s Congress was used as a forum to highlight the government’s plans for the next five years. Government ministers and military leaders gave reports on the development of their specific departments. But the highlight of the Congress that meets once a year was the closing speech by State Chairman Chen Yun In which he covered several topics including the economy military and SRCK’s place in the world. We will be playing highlights of that speech for this broadcast.
    The Economy:
“We should step up our efforts and take more concrete measures in deepening reform and strengthening our self-reliance and the internal economy in the face of Imperialist threats. We should put into action the new development concepts and pursue high-quality growth of our economy. We should build a modern socialist market economy and continue to strengthen our economic might, technological prowess, and comprehensive strength of the nation So that the vigor of the socialist market economy can be fully unleashed.
    Occupied Territories:
We should safeguard the sovereignty and territorial integrity of the country and achieve unification of the motherland. This is the aspiration of all Chinese people. This is also in the fundamental interests of the Chinese nation.
    Separatism:
Faced with this very important question of our nation and history, any action that aims to separate the country is doomed to fail. Any separatist actions will be met with the condemnation of the people and the punishment of history! The Chinese people have a strong determination, full confidence, and every capability to triumph over all separatist actions. The Chinese people and the Chinese nation have a shared conviction, which not a single inch of our land will be, and can be, ceded from the motherland.
The SRCK’s place in the world:
The aspiration of the Chinese people is sincere. and we'll by no means seek development at the expense of other countries’ interests. Our development poses no threats to other countries. We will never seek hegemony and expansionism. Only those who are given to threatening other people will perceive others as a threat.
    Carsonist Party-People relationship:
The CPCK Is the Supreme leadership of the country. And it's also the fundamental guarantee of achieving the rejuvenation of the Chinese nation. The CPCK holds ultimate leadership over every aspect of our social and political life. All political parties, communities, Ethnicities, classes, and people from all walks of life Should rally closely around the CPCK.

(See Above) The new flag of the Union

Unification, the Birth of Jagiellonia!
At early dawn this bright Summer morning, the once divided and pale states of the Balkans vanished for the last time, to be born anew as a greater union, a fraternity bound between the common brethren and cultures who have given so much and fought so bravely together in the defence of civilisation itself. From the ancient triumphs over the Ottoman Turks, to the valiant battles fought side by side to the bitter end against the German menace - our union is bound in the ages, a mutual accord of strength, honour and courage.

Jagiellonia, the name chosen for our new union. A word which summons up the noble age of knights, kings and dynasties - shall become a mark of unity between our common peoples, and a return to the rightful integrity of the Eastern lands. Where once our territories were one under the triumphant red and blue banner of Vladislaus some five hundred years ago, today and henceforth for all eternity they shall be one again.

This pivotal moment, in the course of our shared histories, is the culmination of some four years of arduous work and ever growing affinities. The Constanta Agreement of 1950, between Palatine László Bárdossy of Hungary, Manjat Kostaq Kotta of former “Albania”, Vodach Petar Gabrovski of former “Bulgaria”, and Conducator Horia Sima of former “Rumania”, and its declarations therein heralded the beginning of the path to this most hallowed present moment. The referenda which followed, approved by some 87% in Bulgaria, 89% in Rumania, and 79% in Albania, yet further enshrined this path to today’s mutual unity. Few other nations can draw such strength from this common origin, historic legacy, and most of all legitimate will of the peoples and their leaders.

The Jagiellonian Union henceforth heralds a new age of prosperity, strength and stability for our brethren peoples. No longer shall we be “Illyrians”, “Rumanians”, Magyars, “Bulgars” or “Serbs” - but Jagiellonians. Despite our recent provincial differences, a brief blink in time, we are at heart all quintessentially of the same salt, born from the same cradle, and sharing the same homesteads and aspirations.

Today we pay testament to Jagiellonia! The Union which shall see us rise together to ever greater heights. And yet more we salute our glorious King, Matthias III, and his almighty Palatine, Bárdossy, who together shall shepherd our new Union to the sunlit uplands of tomorrow.

The Winds of Change!
Today, two new nations have been borne from the salt of our united Magyar commonwealth; fellow realms beyond the seas benevolently stewarded by our glorious sovereign, Matthias III. The Federation of the Sahel (drawn from the former-colonial Territories of Soudan, Ubangi, Chad and Dinka), and the Sarnate of Assyria (borne of the Territory of the same name) shall together stand as new and welcome members to our fraternal Jagiellonian brotherhood.

The motives for such waves today are plainly clear, as they have been in the long and arduous months leading up to this moment. Their peoples are at last ready to be carefully handed the mantle of stewardship over their own lands. Their leaders have been carefully trained and groomed for this very moment. And rising Carsonist agitation in the Southern reaches shows now is the time to act and take the wind out of the red menace’s sails. Independence within, is any day far preferable to agitation, insurrection and god forbid revolution without.

His Imperial Majesty, who has spent the past week on a grand imperial tour stretching from the pleasant shores of Tripoli to the deepest deserts of the Sahel, is expected to invite Ephrem Khalil to become the first Kush (Palatine) of the Sahel. Khalil is a loyal former Askari - the crack battalions of native troops who have proven so courageous in face of often insurmountable odds against savage Carsonist and Ratist rebels. He later received extensive civil education at the University of Szeged, and has long been groomed by the Colonial Service for a role in the new state bureaucracy. Later this week, His Majesty will further open the first Federation Diet in the new Sahel capital of Khartoum, where Khalil will be pivotal in the seamless transfer of power.

Meanwhile in Assyria, Soterious tou-Assad has been named as Assur (Palatine) of the new Sarnate. Soterious is a member of the deep-rooted Greco-Arabic Assad family, a noble line which heralds from Alawistan to Damascus. As Assur, Assad is expected to receive His Majesty in Damascus next month when he will continue his sweeping tour of the region.

Each nation is to be constituted as independent Kingdoms within the personal union of the Jagiellonian Sphere. His Imperial Majesty shall thus henceforth arise as King of the Sahel (and hitherto King of Nubia, King of Kanem, Malik of Bornu, and Malik of Kerma), and Sar of Assyria (Malik of Aramea, Battos of Damascus). In these duties, he shall endeavour to do his utmost to serve the peoples of Assyria and the Sahel - his loyal subjects, so much equals to those in Bohemia, Rumania or even Buda.

PM’s Secretary in Exclusive Interview - Secrets of Downing Street Brought to Light

After stepping in as the successor of Winston Churchill, who served as the prime minister from 1946 to 1950, former minister of the exchequer Brograve Beauchamp brought a lot of his own staff to Downing Street to help him lead the nation. Among that staff was Mariella Pilkington, a journalism student who had been doing an internship as a correspondent at the exchequer and was surprisingly hired as a press assistant.

Ms Pilkington, why was a 22-year-old student hired as a full-time staff member of the British ministry of finance?

“Officially, they said that I was quick and witty with the pen and would bring new winds to the public relations of the ministry. In a way, that makes sense, as the press image of the exchequer was previously quite stale and sterile. However, I personally think my youth and looks had something to do with it as well.”

With the resignation of Mr Churchill, minister Beauchamp was selected as the new leader of the federal government. He quickly filled key positions of the Downing Street staff with his former employees from the exchequer. Nominally, the jobs were offered to be voluntarily accepted, but many have said that declination would have meant professional suicide.

Ms Pilkington, why did such an experienced politician choose to bring a dozen exchequer employees to the office of the federal prime minister?

“Like everyone else, Mr Beauchamp was deeply upset by Mr Churchill’s stroke and following resignation. We knew that those were massive boots he would have to fill. Even though he is experienced, the federal government is such a web that it requires highly loyal helpers and personal connections. Many of the staff he brought in were young women like myself, but that can be just a coincidence.”

Ms Pilkington grew up and was educated in Bexleyheath, Ham. Her father works as a printer in the Daily Herald and her mother sells souvenirs by the Bank. For any woman from these origins, becoming the prime minister’s personal secretary is quite an achievement. However, you secured this position in 1952, at the age of 26. Why do you think that is?

“Well, after Mr Beauchamp's tax irregularities were exposed earlier that year, he performed something of a “purge” on Downing Street, and many faithful employees who he suspected of having exposed him had to go. That included his former secretary, also a young, attractive lady. I had always supported Mr Beauchamp, and he saw I was the only suitable candidate for the job. I had all the qualifications: shorthand, stenotype, intricate knowledge of the workings of the government, and as an avid hurdler I had been keeping myself fit.”

What was life like on Downing Street after that?

“Well, Mr Beauchamp became increasingly more paranoid and saw political enemies everywhere. The situation became easier for a while after the 1954 election, as he got to reshuffle the federal government and fill the ministries with his puppets. But soon his paranoia became even worse. He even suspected his own family and ordered his wife to move back to their personal residence, giving him the freedom to do whatever he wanted on Downing Street. They rarely saw each other and even then only for dinner or tea.”

So, the prime minister must have filled his personal needs some other way?

“Obviously, his office was filled with young, ambitious women who were willing to please him in any possible way in order to further their career. Of course, I did not partake as my career was already at its peak. It only seems that nothing was enough for Mr Beauchamp. He was never happy, never showed any determination to his work, and he had constant problems with mental health, which was not helped by his excessive drinking.”

Would you say Mr Beauchamp had an alcohol problem?

“Had and still has. If I’d have to guess, he is currently going through his second bottle of sherry for the day, and it’s only lunchtime. He has managed to keep it under control enough to conceal it from the cabinet and the general public, but life on Downing Street is constantly marked by the attempts to keep the prime minister from falling to permanent delirium. His doctor visited the office weekly and tried to talk sense to him, as did we, but he refused to listen and kept on drinking more and more. As you have probably noticed, his public appearances have become rarer and rarer, and sherry is the main reason.”

Thank you for the interview, Mariella Pilkington, secretary of the prime minister. For your final statement, you wanted to send a message to the people of Britannia?

“Yes. If your friend, family member, or colleague suffers from alcoholism, do not be afraid to confront them about it. You may well save their life by getting them help. It is a dangerous disease and must be treated as soon as possible. Thank you.”

Resignation and Riots – August 17th, 1956

In an address to the nation over the radio and on television, Chairman Chen Yun announced that he would be resigning effective immediately. The Chairman cited the false allegations made against him using fabricated photos. The Chairman further added that his government's reaction to the incident and several nations' refusal to suppress the false story had severely damaged the Soviet republics' international standing and any prestige it may or may not have had prior to that time. Chairman Chen concluded by saying that he felt the nation could not move forward so long as he remained head of state and that new leadership would be needed. Several hours after Chairman Chen made his decision and a few hours prior to the broadcast being released over the airwaves, the politburo elected Li Xiannian to become the next General-Secretary of the Carsonist Party of China and Korea.

Several hours after the broadcast was released, massive demonstrations by an outraged and bereaved public came out in support of the outgoing Chairman in major cities across the nation. In Beijing, Nanjing, Chongqing, Tianjin, and Shanghai, huge demonstrations that led to rioting took place against perceived western interference through the use of fabricated photos to demean and humiliate the Chinese people and the Chinese nation. In Korea, large but peaceful demonstrations took place in support of the government in Busan, Seoul, and Pyongyang.

After the commotion of riots and protests across the nation, the new state of affairs became known to the public. Newly instated chairman Li had attained to the offices of general secretary of the CPCK, State Chairman of the Soviet Republic of China and Korea, and Premier of the State Council, making him the most powerful man since the days of absolute monarchy. Using this massive power, Li purged most of his colleagues on the politburo standing committee. The moderates and reform-minded members were removed, replaced with more leftist leaning members. Furthermore, the politburo standing committee's size was reduced from seven members to five, further consolidating power.

To top off his reorganization, Li replaced every member of the State Council except for defense minister Chen Yi whose status as a national hero made him virtually untouchable…for the moment. So he was allowed to retain the mostly symbolic position of defense minister.

In a demonstration of his perceived power, Chairman Li stood on the Tiananmen gate's rostrum, looking out onto Tiananmen square where thousands of soldiers goose-stepped past in salute. After the parade's conclusion, he gave a rousing speech to tens of thousands of people where he declared the new nation's ideology would be Zhuti or Juche in Korean, roughly translating to mean self-reliance. The Chinese nation would depend on no one, and its fate would rest in the hands of the Chinese people alone, away from the lies, decadence, and corruption of the western imperialists who had so shamelessly sought to reestablish decades of humiliation and colonization.

Former Imperial Chancellor dies aged 83 – June 9th, 1957

Marquis Zhu Qinglan, an old aristocrat and Imperial chancellor to his late Majesty, has passed away today at the age of 82. Zhu served his nation the brief period of direct rule from the dragon throne by his Imperial Majesty after a horrific scandal brought down the Wang Jingwei government. By all accounts, Zhu performed well in his role, beautifully handling the day-to-day state affairs of an ever-expanding empire while remaining apolitical in what could be considered turbulent times for the empire.

On reflection, he was neither terribly popular nor unpopular, maintaining the status quo until a democratic system of government could be re-established. Despite his evident competence for his position, his death stands out perhaps more than his career in politics. Former Chancellor Zhu is the first-ever former head of government of the reunified Chinese nation to die since the re-founding of the Qing Empire in 1917. Both of his predecessors Grand Marshal Zhang Xueliang and Prime Minister Wang Jingwei are still alive. The same could not be said of his cabinet, with 96-year-old former defense minister Min Young-hwan being the only living member of his cabinet.

His funeral is also interesting in that it has revealed the deepening division in the nation’s political elite. His funeral was attended by every one of his predecessors and successors as head of government of the Empire of the Great Qing. In addition to every surviving member of their cabinets and former Imperial Regent Duan. In contrast, not a single member of any Carsonist government attended his funeral, with the notable exception of defense minister Chen Yi who is well known to be a Carsonist in name only and serves out of a sense of dedication to the nation rather than any ideological connection with the ruling government.

Angolans Bomb Kongo! Crisis in Africa!
3 July 1957

Calamity engulfs much of the African continent today as reports now flood in across the world of the currently erupting conflict between Hauserist Angola and Kongo. Following the spillover of tensions after the dubiously investigated Lucapa bombing, sources on the ground confirmed that Kongolese troops were openly and deliberately attacked by Angolan artillery and infantry completely unprovoked! With footage now emerging of daring Kongolese Air Force fighters strafing advancing enemy lines, international onlookers now seem to accept the dismal reality that what began as an avertable border skirmish has resulted in all-out war between the two nations.

This unfolding "aggressive invasion," as described by Hallita Kekkonen, has already been met with immediate Finnish diplomatic and military reaction. When asked by reporters for the specifics of a Finnish response, Kekkonen elaborated on the activation of all White Air Force detachments stationed in Africa. Furthermore, the Hallita, supplementing a statement made by Kongolese Free State President Johannes Graff hours after initial reports, affirmed boldly that with but a month until the Middle-Globe Compact's second year anniversary, "the MGC's integrity would be defended to the last breath of all its members." Mustering much of the strength of Finland's abroad forces, the government has committed fully without declaring war to stand with its allies in this new struggle. This same move would seem to garner an indifferent response by the Gravonist Unity Party's hardliners.

More concerningly, these developments come mere months after the official confirmation by the Atomic Oversight Registry that the maniacal Volder regime is in possession of nuclear weapons and other weapons of mass destruction. With news outlets in Kongo expressing great fear for the possibility of these weapons' uses on the battlefield, or worse, against civilian targets, the international communities efforts to dismantle the regime's stockpile have only been emboldened in the mission to prevent such brutality.

Some of these same concerns, however, are feared to have already been realized. Amidst the flow of reports from the new frontlines are images and reels of Angolan soldiers donning gas masks, marching through ominously abandoned former Kongolese positions. More grizzly images would emerge following a brief Angolan retreat from some of these same areas, where reporters captured in full undeniable proof of the Angolan army's employment of chemical weapons that have been banned by the Helsinki Conventions. More worryingly, concurrent reports have come in from Gabon where a surprise Angolan attack has also witnessed the use of nerve gas by these aggressing forces.

With strategic targeting of Angolan military infrastructure already underway, Finland now seeks to move for a wider international response from the helm of the international coalition formed to oppose Abram Volder's despicable rule. Furthermore, Hallita Kekkonen is rumored to be moving to seek for the Finnish delegation to the Congress of Nations to call for a new investigation into Angola's clear committing of crimes against humanity and violating of the Helsinki Conventions.

Not so Limited Intervention
4th of July, 1957

As the spiraling affairs of central Africa spill over into concerning fanaticism, Rhodesia no longer can abide by idle defenses. In spite of the international coalition taking its own actions, it leaves a sour taste to how spineless the coalition seems to be an obvious effect of the Domino Theory of more and more radical ideologies spreading to its neighbors. The international community would have to accept Rhodesian intervention for what it was because too much muddling about and disrupting the flow of things in central Africa had drawn enough of an ire that even the most pacifist and non-interventionist Rhodesian would cry out "ENOUGH!"

Rhodesian Air Forces would be detached to strike directly at Angolan forces, as well as key civilian infrastructure to sap the ability of the advanced troops to maintain steady basic logistics. The bombing campaign would be led by the initial wave of B-36 Peacemakers, carrying a mixed ordinance of napalm and conventional high explosives to deal an opening blow to the infrastructure. The peacemakers would be supported by Rhodesian F-100 strike groups, targeting primarily radar instillations, oil refineries, and dams along tactically significant areas to deny the enemy easy passage.

Air cavalry would move to drop advanced infantry consisting of the Rhodesian Light Infantry, as well as a new experimental unit called the Selous Scouts. Utilizing the limited capabilities of the helicopter fleet available to the Rhodesians the plan on the ground would be vastly different to that of the current trench warfare being engaged by the Kongolese and Angolan Forces. By constantly moving, repositioning, and attacking abstract targets the ground forces intend to destroy, deny the enemy, or simply distract.

The overall Rhodesian forces have also stated to the international community a policy of "Non intercedat." Warning all but American and Australian forces that there would be direct consequences to disrupting Rhodesian operations in the area. Rhodesian forces have also been granted authority by the Rhodesian government to commandeer supplies while in the field to maintain operational status and capabilities while so deep in enemy territory. The logistical planning of heavier offensives would be left to Rhodesian high command while the situation in the ground and air is settled with more practical intelligence. Any non-identified, and non US-alligned aircraft while operating in the scope of Rhodesian campaigns will be considered as active combatants and dealt with in an appropriate manner.

Reports of ONI agents moving to the country also have been consistently denied by Rhodesian forces, but no official statement has been made.

The Antarctic Expedition

Good day good people of Patagonia and welcome to your after noon radio news report, I'm your host Thomas Gerhard, and boy do we have a story for you all today. The research team and group of colonists that have set out two months ago, on the grand expedition to do want many wont do and set up a permanent colony and research outpost on the frozen continent of Antarctica. It took them roughly a month to fully set up once they arrived and the goal of the research team at first was to see if there may have been any alien findings on the frozen continent but to no avail. With that failure they switched to atmospheric studies and spatial observation. Upon their first scheduled radio report back to the home land we heard nothing. I had many people ask me what may have happened and I know many had voiced the worst may have struck and that we should have never tried this but the Arch duke was determined and sent one military vessel with supplies to check out the status of the outpost. On there voyage which should have only taken a few days turned into two weeks due to and unforeseen blizzard forcing them to halt there advance temporarily. However once the storm subsided they rushed to the port of the town that was set up to find the towns people still alive and well but holding on by a thread. They moved to the research outpost to find them in the same state. With the quick thinking of the crew and captain of P.N.S. Arden they were able to provide them all with the needed supplies to continue to survive. Once they stabilized the situation they asked what happened and to there surprise the main power station was fried by a penguin of all things. A damn penguin... Honestly a bit funny despite the danger that transpierced. Regardless, instead of leaving Captain Fran Goring ordered some of his maintenance personal to assist in repairing the power relay and ensure it wont break like it did again. Thankfully they were successful and I heard that once the Arden returned to port yesterday the entire crew was rewarded for there actions in saving the colony and that the colony has decided to name there town after Captain Goring. So there you have it folks we should all applaud Captain Goring and his crew for saving our new Town Goringsburg, now next up is the weather.

The Military takes Action - August 20th, 1957

It is said that those who fail to learn from history are doomed to repeat the mistakes of the past. So it was with Chairman Li Xiannian, he failed to learn from the mistakes made in 1917. In 1917 the Carsonist leadership was too enveloped in its own internal struggles to realize the military had turned against them. Then 34-year-old General Zhang Xueliang led the military in overthrowing that government and re-establishing the Qing Empire. Chairman Li's immediate predecessor Chen Yun sought to avoid repeating those mistakes by personally meeting retired Marshal Zhang, now aged 69, and seemingly soliciting the marshal's blessing. Despite dramatically changing ideology and purging the only member of the military in the politburo, Chairman Li did not solicit the military's continued approval and support for reasons unknown.

In the late-night hours, Defence Minister Marshal Chen Yi, in his capacity as vice-chairman of the Central Military Commission, locks down the government complex in Beijing, citing concerning reports by military intelligence. However, he does not specify what the threat is. Two thousand soldiers from the surrounding military districts are called into the capital to secure critical areas. Lieutenant General Wang Dongxing head of the central security regiment, locks down the government residential complex at Zhongnanhai and has all the cabinet members and the politburo escorted to bunkers and secure locations.

Only when the capital was fully secure was the coup made evident to a shocked and infuriated Carsonist leadership. Certain members of the politburo had private security with no allegiance to the military; however, they were in such small numbers spread over such large areas that they were quickly detained without bloodshed. Only one casualty was reported during the coup that being member of the politburo Wang Hongwen, the feisty 22-year-old charged the officers and soldiers when he learned of the deception, and was subsequently shot in the leg and is now in a military hospital. The remaining Carsonist leaders have been taken to a military prison at an unspecified location.

Marshal Liu Bocheng, a national hero from the Sino-Soviet war nicknamed the one-eyed dragon by his soldiers after losing his right eye in combat, made a televised and radio address to a shocked nation. Flanked by military officers, Liu declared that the Carsonist Party had betrayed the revolution's fundamental principles. They had strayed too far and too fast from the main priorities of the people that had put them in power. Therefore, Liu proclaimed a new constitution that would enshrine the fundamental Socially Democratic values that revolution had been founded on with a democratically elected president and an elected national assembly.

After the address to the nation, it was announced that a provisional President would work alongside a provisionally elected National Assembly. The provisional Presidency and National Assembly's terms would continue until 1960 when presidential and legislative elections would be held for five-year terms. It was further announced that the universally respected Marshal Chen Yi would serve as provisional president under the newly created Institutional Revolutionary Party (IRP).

Chen Yi's Inaugural Address – September 26th, 1957

Large crowds in Beijing cheered on the nation's first Presidential motorcade as Chen Yi arrived at Tiananmen square. Speaking to the large crowd, President Chen laid out the road to healing and unifying the country while also touching on broadly leftist policies regarding the economy and the nation as a whole. Small-scale Carsonist protests were reported in several cities, although violence was minimal. It has been reported that future Presidential speeches will not be made from the Tiananmen rostrum but rather in the newly refurbished National Assembly chamber. It has been further reported to the surprise of many that Seoul will once again be established as an alternate capital alongside Beijing should any incoming president so desire. However, it has been confirmed that President Chen will keep the capital in Beijing during his term.

Far more interesting, however, was the visit to China by former American President Joseph McCarthy. Decades prior, as a young military officer McCarthy participated in a military officer exchange that included the then Captain Chen Yi. After the tremendous victory that was the Sino-Soviet war, then-President McCarthy sent Marshal Chen a fishing pole and tackle to congratulate him on his victories during the war; a gift Marshal Chen was said to have prized over all of the military decorations he received. Now over a decade later, McCarthy arrived in China in person to gift yet another fishing pole and tackle. The two men are reported to have embraced each other warmly after not having seen one another in several years. The two men are reported to have met in private for an extended period of time at the Presidential Residence. Some pundits have speculated that this meeting could serve as the beginning of a warming of what has been frosty relations between the Chinese and American nations.

Memoirs of a Second Great War Soldier

Who are you? Howd you find my name? You a cop...? Oh. Well Alright. So long as you dont use my name then... In that case, where to start... I guess either Warsaw or Riga. Riga? Alright then. Yeah, I flew with the White Airforce under a fake name, times were desperate and the Finns wanted just about anyone that could fly behind a stick, anyone who wasnt holding a gun already or turning wrenches in the factories. Their entire nation was mobilized for conflict in a way my home country aint ben in a while. People forget what thats like, rations, blackout curtains, bombing raids, jackbooted thugs on the street corner... Aint right. I learned my trade flying for the Union and fighting for Pershing on the patomic, a war refugee from New England who wanted to get a bit back at his enemies. Learned to fly during the liberation of West Virginia and got shot down over Kentucky near the end of it all, during the last great pushes. Well I had the good fortune of getting picked up by some funny jabberin fellas from Finland, fixed up my arm, put some vodka in my stomach, and helped me out. It was about then I learned how much alike we and they are.

Skip on to the end of the war and them boys went on home, and I got to rebuilding my own life. Wasnt much of home to speak of when I got there, but it was mine, and it was free thanks in part to my friends from abroad. Pickin up the pieces wasnt easy, ma was sick and all, but you know, a man has to persevere or he'll just die. I had myself a good little gig going for me when the second great war broke out, sweetheart wife, two little tykes, and a few acers south of Boston all my own. It was a good livin. But I heard about how the Finns were gettin plastered by Kraut planes daily, victory after german victory. I couldnt just sit there and enjoy myself while people who'd helped me had their homes destroyed like mine. Thats why I said goodbye to the Missus and kissed my kids before hoppin over the pond and joinin up with the White air force. Took a minute to dust off the wings but you know, its like ridin a bike, cant forget somethin like that.

I made it to the front with a unit called the No.909 fighter escort and destruction squadron. Right as Warsaw fell, but you wanted to hear about Riga... Damn hold on, my memory comes and goes sometimes... Right, it was... It was the 002 squadron I was with, flying one of their newer messhershmitts... Anyway so the germans had been kicking the Ruskies around and were on the approaches to Riga, the last major polish holdout before Russia proper. Them Pollocks were getting hammered, first Warsaw, then Krakow, and now a drive to the sea. You wouldn't have believed it, trenches for as far as you could see, a hell of pockmarks and unmistakable columns of dejected young men running back for miles as they streamed into the city.

There wasnt much the allied nations could do as the germans smashed their way into Ukraine and encircled a half million russians on the Boris line, back then the situation seemed so dire... so uncontrollable... All we could do was drop our payloads and return for more. The shattered polish forces couldnt do much more than be a speed bump for the german panzer armies as they rolled over everything before them. We got almost no sleep and our airframes were strained to the maximum, we were flying sorties as quickly as our planes could be rearmed. We were under no illusions that once the germans reached Riga the jig was up, so we understood we had to make them pay for every inch they advanced. I cant personally remember how many times I dove on some poor group of bastard infantrymen, or loosed rockets on some supply column or dropped bombs on a lone barrel out in the open... they all just blur into one continuous combat mission that played out over the course of weeks.

Then the siege began in earnest, and damned if it wasnt the fasted siege you ever saw. The germans breached those miles of trenches as quickly as they could be dug, and were only stopped via a combination of desperate defence from the polish street to street and house to house and a never ending stream of bombing sorties from the white airforce. But by then our squadron was facing as many losses from mechanical failure and simple sleep deprivation as fire from the enemy. Seasoned pilots were making dumbass mistakes youd expect from a cadet flyer on his first solo flight. Messing up landings, even im guilty of that, or losing track of their fuel. More than once I bombed a target and dove on another target without realizing id already loosed my munitions. In the end we could only watch as Riga, the bastion on the sea, fell to the germans. Our squadron was utterly devastated by the fighting, only a handful of pilots were even still alive at the end of the campaign and what for? We hadnt managed to keep the germans out, and most of our friends were dead.

High command gave the survivors medals, and let us rest for a few weeks. Then we got folded into a new unit and sent back to the front just in time for Carsongrad to fall. That was when the action really picked up.

Dear diary,

I should wonder, the reasons mother sought to gift this collection of papers and leather to me. But it is a gift, and given of a heart full of love and expectations. As such I shall treat it with respect and endeavor to follow her instruction. Today marks my thirteenth year in the lord's world, and mother has given to me this dairy with the intent to help me with my calligraphy and transcription. Perhaps this is even true, however I cannot for the life of me understand the usefulness of this instrument in my every day life. Mother insists I take it to school with me and I shall, at least for a while, merely to keep her happy.

What will the other students think if they see me ferreting away a black leather book along with my other school items? The next term starts In a week's time, and I shudder at what the other girls might think of my apparent secretiveness. But then, perhaps it should appear to them that I am sophisticated, perhaps, just maybe, a boy might be intrigued by the mystery of it! A hopelessly optimistic view, but its a hope none the less. The Wiederitzsch public school isnt a highly regarded institution, but its all I have, until I can marry and move to Berlin with a dashing husband. A place where the sun is always bright and the future always welcoming.

However, between Father's work in the government office and mother volunteering as the town's modest Librarian, I deeply fear I may never see the outside of Leipzig! How is a woman to grow, to find a home, if she is shackled to such lowly beginnings? My eldest Brother, Dear Heinz, found his calling teaching abroad. A life of adventure, seeing the glimmering lights of New York, London, Paris, Willow Woods, the greatest cities of all, and Heinz has been to them! Were it not for his constant stream of letters and novelty gifts I'd think him on another world entirely. Older Brother Henrik is something else though. Hes almost done with school, but he and father get into loud fights and he calls him many names before storming off. Im never quite sure what they are about, but I always wish they would find a way to stop fighting. There was no reason to be angry, not with your loved ones. And though father might disagree, I loved both my brothers as deeply as a sister could.

Maybe this dairy will be a good thing after all? I'll have to sleep on it, and recollect my thoughts in the morning. Until then I bide you farewell, Dairy.

Cordial Reassurances Through a Bitter Winter

Following a lengthy period of mixed and polarized reactions, chaos in the Presidium would briefly subside in recent days. As though ordering a calamitous household to composure, President Grigori Monikov worked to address all painfully punctuated concerns regarding most recent developments in China. In the immediate wake of the apparent coup against the highly controversial Li Xiannian, total bedlam gripped the highest halls of Willow Woods. With members of the Politburo nearly going for each other's throats out of disagreement for how the address the situation, the mood was best defined by a brief exchange in which Spectre Director Ivan Serov called for an immediate intervention to place Li back in power, which ended with him calling for the arrest of Foreign Minister Oleg Bakhunin following the latter's expressing of acceptance for the change. Highlighting the seeming canyon of differences between Serov and Monikov, the President would express favor for the Foreign Minister's stance, however this would only be apparent after some assurance from Beijing of newly-inaugurated President Chen Yi's desire to maintain a remotely revolutionary doctrine, as well as close ties with the Federation.

The brief calm instilled by the President appeared tailored to that of a host expecting a guest, and quite the guest did Willow Woods receive! As a sign of goodwill and continued harmony between the USF and China, the Presidium welcomed new Chinese Prime Minister Yun Posun, who met personally with President Monikov before speaking before all Presidium members.

Speaking to the 15th Supreme Soviet, all were present for the Prime Minister's speech except for, of course, Ivan Serov and tens of members of the so-called "Ultravisionary" wing of the Carsonist Party, who are rumored to have expressed private outrage at President Monikov's willingness to cooperate with the new Chinese authorities. Applauded with a standing ovation, Yun's remarks of continued prosperity in a revolutionary cause that two great nations can share going forward were widely cherished, with the moderate wing of the Party looking fondly upon the idea of a new reformedly socialist page for China following the near slippage into Li Xiannian's hardliner philosophy of Zhuti which divided Willow Woods tremendously and even made President Monikov himself uneasy.

Delivering a follow-up, Foreign Minister Bakhunin spoke proudly of his hopes for the reinvigorating of existing programs of cultural exchange between Russia and China. Tuning in to the current season's topics, Bakhunin announced that with the impending Winter, Soviet citizens across the Federation would be advised, educated, and assisted by their local Culture Commissar in ways to observe the Chinese tradition of the wintertime Plum Blossom Festival! This Chinese tradition symbolizes endurance and steadfastness, which President Monikov himself has likened to the nature of the unwavering modern friendship between Willow Woods and Beijing. Involving the beautiful usage of actual namesake flower, the cities of the Motherland are expected to soon be abloom with plum blossoms of unyielding friendship!

My Dearest Diary,

How glad I am for your company. I feel as though, in these many long nights, that you are perhaps alone in your singular understanding of me. It was difficult at first, Ill admit to you, bringing such unnecessary baggage to school with me at first. But having moved past that initial fear I've discovered a certain warmth, perhaps even comfort, in your presence with me. It makes up for the many times I am unable to steal away enough time to properly record my daily happenings. As though I carry with me a good friend, someone who shares my vision, my secrets, my fears. It is without judgement I can tell you such things, and I cannot state accurately how freeing it is. School has finished now for the summer respite, in two months time I will officially graduate to the higher learning classes, a higher level of work, and I fear I may be unable to keep up with the state of this diary going into the future.

Im worried, Diary, what if I cannot accomplish my studies, as Henrik before me? I do not want to be a lout who cannot give her best to Germany. The very notion is terrifying, What dishonor would a disgraced daughter bring Mother and Father? I could never live with myself, being responsible for something that horrible. Resolved, I find myself determined, against my fear to give my all to my schooling. I swear to you first of all, Diary, and to myself, that much.

Walter spoke to me again today. He invited me to his family farm just north, to fish along the banks of the Schladitzer Lake. He's a charming boy, taken of a bold nature and unbelievably shy when speaking to me. We first conversed many weeks ago during school when he required supplies such as parchment and pencils. He offered to draw me the setting sun in exchange for the simple crafts and made good on it not a day later. It was simply breathtaking to behold. The rugged sketch held inside it a heartfelt enthusiasm that seeped into my very body through my fingers as I held it. I couldnt comprehend how someone could possess such talent. We began a regular correspondence from then on, and he has shown me on some occasions, how he is able to craft such masterful art.

I find myself very much looking forward to such leisurely activities as fishing, though mother has cautioned me against the dangers boys present, I cannot properly heed her warnings. For when I envision his smile and genuine expressions I feel naught but a flustered excitement. What this feeling is, I haven't an idea, but if my heart is to lead me down this path, I shall follow it gratefully.

Henrik and Father had another fight, but this time it was different. The names normally shouted back and forth were absent, in their place the muffled sounds of disappointment and desperation. I found out today that Henrik has joined the army. I dont know what that means for him, but my heart swells with pride that my brother has chosen to serve the great German nation. Which conflicts deeply with the sorrow I hear from Mother, or the passionate anger from Father. I dont want Henrik to die, but I know this is what he wants, and if this is the way he feels is the best way to serve our nation and honor our family, I can no nothing but hug him tight and wish him the best. Besides, no one is shooting at anyone, and from what Henrik boosts, he'll be growing fat and happy with nothing to do soon enough.

Greetings!

The Consortium is planning a move to Global Union Consortium. Whilst not strictly decided, it would be best for embassies to also be established there as well, to ensure a seamless transfer should it be required. Should it not be, the region will likely be deleted, so you don't need to worry about clutter.

Thank you for your support!

“‘Reverend and dear sir, I beseech you to hear my confession, and to pronounce forgiveness to me for God's sake’” recites the woman sitting on the other side of the confessional screen. What light penetrated the small windows to the outside world cast shadows upon what little of her face was visible, the shade accenting her grim expression. “Please, my child,” responded the pastor in the stall on the other side of the screen. “We have done this time and time again. There is no need for such formalities and orthodoxy with me, though I do accept the respect you are imparting on me with such words of tradition.” A thin, gentle smile is on the pastor’s wrinkled face as he continues. “I know what actions you will soon take that have lead you to this moment on this day. I should know, I had my hand in them myself.” He pauses, looking upwards. “Though I will hear you nonetheless. It is not really me you are confessing to, but rather to God through me, after all. Proceed, my daughter.”

The chest of the woman slowly rises and falls as she takes a deep breath, the polished metal buttons of her grey uniform momentarily sparkling in the rays of light seeping in. “Father, forgive me of not only the sins I have committed, but of the sins I am about to commit upon others.” She pauses, considering her words. “Lives will be lost, and suffering will be committed. I am to commit acts of vengeance, and the sin of Wrath will surely stain my soul. But…” She straightens her posture, the light shining across her eyes beneath the brim of her helmet, a fire of determination sparking in those light blue irises. “What I do, I do out of love for my country, and for the honor of my family. My enemies are not just my own, but a threat to the once great nation of Germany, who sully the name of Our Lord, God Almighty with each proclamation they make in His divine name.” The spark of determination in her eyes turned into a flame as her voice started to shake with emotion. The pastor raised and placed his hand up against the simple wooden screen separating the two, calm and peace seemingly emanating from him. The woman, exhaling, places her hand opposite of his on her side of the screen, seeming to relax a bit.

“Apologies, Father… My passions are getting the better of me,” she says. The pastor chuckles softly, slowly shaking his head. “There is no need, my child. You have your grandmother’s fire in your veins. Not even I could do much to temper those flames when she got so enthralled, and I spent 16 years as her son…” He slowly falls silent, his gentle features shifting from a smile to a sorrowful expression.

“Fifty-two year… fifty-two long years it’s been since she was taken from this earthly realm to the kingdom of heaven. And yet I can still remember it so clearly.” The man closes his eyes, memories of events so long ago filling his conscious mind. “The doors being kicked in, the gunfire of the Royal Guards fighting off the Aplotzkii’s goons in the distance while I was rushed through the corridors to the Royal Armory. A hail of gunfire, bullets passing by my head and striking my arm as I got to the makeshift barricade. My brothers manned the lines with the Royal Guards. Wilhelm, Eitel, Adalbert, August, Oskar, princes all of them. Those who lived outside of the Imperial Palace had been forced to flee their own homes in the initial days of the coup. I was too wounded to fight, even though I begged to be allowed to. They devised a plan to get me and my sister, Viktoria, to safety, with me dressed as a Royal Guard. We slipped out of the armory with a handful of Royal Guards just in time, for not a moment later the barricade was breached. Frantic gunfire, the sounds of my brothers dying echoing to us down the corridors as we fled. I heard the screams of my mother as her sons died before her, then the screams were silenced by rifle fire. Soon, all that echoed down the halls were the last words of my father, Kaiser Wilhelm himself: ‘I’d rather die defending the honor of Germany than live having handed it over to the devil himself!’ Followed by a pair of pistol shots from what I can only assume was his revolver, to which the response was him being gunned down like a dog. The Aplotzkiis soon pursued us. Viktoria’s white nightgown so quickly drew their fire in the darkness… Only the dark grey of that uniform allowed me to evade their fire and eventually their pursuit…” Joachim, son of Kaiser Wilhelm II, now pastor, opened his eyes, looking to his daughter.

“That same uniform you’re wearing. Resized to fit you, of course.” Joachim said, the old man’s smile slowly returning. “God hears your confession, my child, and he shall forgive you. His blessing is upon the task you are to undertake.” He locks his eyes with hers, the glimmer of hope and pride in his eyes as he looks. “Go forth, Viktoria. Restore Germany in memory of your grandfather, your grandmother, my fallen brothers, and in memory of your namesake, my sister. They are looking down from heaven upon you, alongside God Almighty.”

Viktoria gave a solemn nod, “I will, father. Germany shall be made anew; her enemies crushed; her honor and glory restored.” Joachim looks forward as Viktoria spoke, and with a deep voice, he recites. “‘As thou believest, so be it done unto thee. And by the command of our Lord Jesus Christ I forgive thee thy sins, in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit. Amen.’” “Amen,” Viktoria responds, and opens the confessional door, her boots clicking against the stone floor of the church as she walks to the front door, the two men in similar uniforms that guarded the main door quickly snapping to attention and opening the large oaken doors.

Viktoria Madeleine Louise Charlotte, descendant of the House of Hohenzollern, Queen of Prussia, and rightful heir to the German Empire, paused just at the threshold, looking back for a moment at the stained glass image of the Virgin Mary on the far window, silently reciting a prayer before uttering a simple “Amen”, then turning and stepping outside into the light.

The warm spring sun shined down on Viktoria as she exited the church, light glistening off of the polished metal of her uniform. In one smooth motion, she places her pickelhaube on her head, her long dirty blond hair braided and tucked away inside the helmet. Her hand lightly rests on the hilt of the ornate saber on her hip, an intricately engraved gunmetal Mauser C96 holstered on her other hip. Before her in the courtyard of the church stood men and women dressed in similar uniforms, the sons and daughters of what little of the old Royal Guard survived the 1906 coup, and even a few old men of the original Guard acting as officers and leaders to the new generation. At the base of the steps leading down to the courtyard was a row of pews that had been moved outside. There sat many of the old German Aristocracy.

Old men and women, once of noble status before their titles were made nothing more than simple words to symbolize the history of their great ancestors when the Aplotzkiis removed their power because of those Aristocrat’s continued loyalty to the old German Empire. Though their titles by themselves were almost politically powerless in the Corsicinot Government, the wealth and influence of the old elite was still strong, especially with those who did not necessarily approve of the Corsicinot Government.

Viktoria looks over the Royal Guards, the Aristocracy, and the handful of independent news reporters and cameras. Taking a deep breath, she straightens her uniform and marches calmly forward to the podium set up at the top of the steps. The freshly polished dark wood almost glistened in the light with the polished metal of the microphone that sat atop it. Carved and freshly painted on the front of the podium was the old Imperial Coat of Arms in all its glory. She began removing her gloves as she approached the podium, placing them down when she reached it. She pulled out a piece of paper from inside her jacket, laying it out before then removing her pickelhaube, her long braid laying across her left shoulder. Taking a deep breath, she looks to one of the reporters, who gives a nod and a thumbs up. She gives a nod of confirmation in return and locks her eyes with the camera pointed directly at her as the red light on it flashes on, broadcasting the scene across almost every non-state run independent channel across Germany. The nation was watching, and those who weren’t soon would be.

“People of Corsicinot - no, people of Germany, hear me now. My name is Viktoria. Few have met me, and even fewer know who I truly am. But you would have heard of my ancestors.
They built this nation into what it is today. They brought us to greatness; to commanding a quarter of the world at one time. Our nation was the forefront of industry, of science, of economics, and of military might.”

“And all of that was lost when the hand that guided that great nation was cut off. My ancestors, the ones who had protected and led the German Empire, were murdered by an enemy that sought not to build, but to destroy the foundations that Germany was built upon. They sought not to lead, but to control the people of the nation. They sought the worship of themselves over God Almighty Himself.”

“Perhaps my enemies have realized by now who I am. However, the fact that I am alive on this day proves their spies are not as good as they believe. Allow me to inform them, and you, my people, of my name, my title, and my purpose:” Viktoria straightens her posture, coming fully to attention as her voice booms with surprising depth and strength.

“My name is Viktoria Madeleine Louise Charlotte of the House of Hohenzollern, daughter of Prince Joachim Franz Humbert, granddaughter of Kaiser Wilhelm II. I am Queen of Prussia, and, by the blessing of God and the Constitution of the German Empire of 1871, I am the rightful Kaiserin of the Empire of Germany. Fifty-two years ago, twenty-four years before I was born, my birthright was stolen from me, my family executed by the traitors and heretics of the Aplotzkii. My father, Prince Joachim, barely escaped the purges with his life thanks to the few who were still loyal to the true regents of Germany. And so I stand here before you and I shall declare unto you, my people, that the Aplotzkiis will be punished for their betrayal and their degradation of our Holy Germania.”

“I declare, on this day, May 10th, in the year of our Lord 1958, that the sins and crimes of the Aplotzkii Regime will be punished. I declare the dawn of the Second German Empire, the true, rightful successors to the German Empire. By the grace and strength of God and with the blood of my ancestors, I declare war upon the twisted, unholy abomination that is Corsicinot, and upon the vile traitors and heretics of the House of Aplotzkii and those who worship them. I declare this to not only be a war of vengeance and a war of restoration, but a Holy Crusade against the Aplotzkii menace. May God have mercy on the souls of our enemies, for no mercy shall be given to them by us.”

Enthralled by passion, Viktoria unsheathes the polished blade on her hip and raises it high. Taking their cue, the small band in the back started playing Preussens Gloria with gusto. “People of Germany, hear me now! Join me in this great struggle. Lend your rifles, lend your swords, lend your lives in this cause oh so righteous and just! Your brothers and sisters need you now in this time of need! Your Kaiserin calls upon you in her time of need! Germany calls to you to liberate her from these shackles of oppression! Almighty God calls upon you to rid this holy land of the Aplotzkii blasphemers! Our war begins, my brothers and sisters! Glory unto God! Glory unto the German people! Glory unto the Second German Empire!” A thunderous roar erupts from the men and women in formation before her, rifles with bayonets affixed held high while the old aristocrats stood from their seats and applauded. The sound of artillery guns boomed in the distance with the crescendo of the orchestra.

And thus, the first shots of the German Imperial Revolution were fired.

Sovereign germania

Attention!
This is an official message from the Imperial Office of Germany, dated May 13th, 1958.

The following is an open dispatch to all (non-Carsonist) nations and organizations from Her Royal Majesty, Viktoria Madeleine Louise Charlotte von Hohenzollern, Queen of Prussia and Kaiserin of the Second German Empire. Quote:

My friends,

While ‘friend’ may seem like a hollow or presumptuous choice of words on my part to some, my intentions on the international stage are nothing more than that: friendly and cordial. I seek to establish official and open discourse with my fellow nations, both on the continent and abroad.

I will not lie; the future of the restored Germany which I guide is a precarious and delicate thing. In order to fully succeed against the Apolotskii menace, Germany needs the aid of her allies, both past and potentially future. I am deeply honored and blessed by the devotion of my countrymen and women, but devotion alone cannot win a war. Germany needs equipment. Food and commodities for her people. Medicine for the wounded and the ill. Rifles, artillery, tanks, aircraft, and equipment for these weapons of war for her brave men and women who fight for such a righteous cause. Even volunteers, if this war gets so desperate.

At this time, Germany cannot give much in exchange for such support, only the promise that any aid and equipment will be used to alleviate the suffering of my people and to bring the downfall of the Apolotskiis and their false state. However, neither I nor Germany will forget your contributions. Your assistance in our time of need will be repaid in full and more, either through monetary, political, military, or diplomatic compensation. Help me restore Germany to glory, and Germany will help you.

Please, my potential friends, recognize and support the Second German Empire as your equal, and you shall have our respect, our admiration, and more.

- Kaiserin Viktoria von Hohenzollern

Victory in the East! - December 20th, 1958

Today, Premier-Führer Abram Volder at last broke a pensive silence which had fallen over the wireless, as well as Angola's rapidly expanding television network with joyous news! The most venerable leader of the Angolan nation brought to the people developments from the growing eastern front, where he confirmed a freshly stricken victory against the ignominious Kongolese. Based off a handful of reports and the Premier-Führer's own recounting, it has become apparent that Army Purple, under the leadership of General Ernst Criado, has undoubtedly crushed the latest bout of enemy resistance along the Lulua River.

After lauding the heroism and eternal bravery of the young Angolan men who gave the ultimate sacrifice on the lines against the imperialist aggressors, the Premier-Führer would deliver a most fiery speech before the National Assembly. Decrying what he described as attempts to misinform the Angolan people with rumors of an apparent "futility of the war," he proceeded to remark that "the greatest weapon the international cabal possesses within its arsenal is its lies." The lies, which he claimed took the form of misconstrued stories of Angolan defeats on the battlefield, can be expected to try and seep into Angolan homes and minds. Elaborating on the possibility of enemy-propagated mistruths, the Premier-Führer warned of how these lies "will separate the weak-minded from the Angolan-minded," and that anyone who believes the enemy's illusions are "no Angolans at all."

Following a pause in his speech, Premier-Führer Volder continued by lamenting an apparent illness which had befallen commander of Army Green, General Viktor Rist, which sources report to be an early-stage entry into some form of mental decay. The great leader appeared greatly saddened by the revelation that the General would likely be unable to serve in his post, as well as greatly angered by an apparent suggestion by treacherous forces that the impending retirement and alleged diagnosis had any relation to a completely fabricated disagreement between the two men. Many citizens of Luanda, at the Premier-Führer's behest, also took to sending letters of love and support to the outgoing national hero, despite him not having been seen for the past week.

Further defying all odds, Premier-Führer Volder went on yet another tour of one of Angola's finest chocolate-chip ration producing facilities outside of Mussende, where he gave yet another riveting statement to a crowd of workers, most of whom were women. Saluting their tireless work to keep Angolan soldiers fed and, above all, support the war effort, he would call on all Angolans who have encountered or may soon encounter enemy occupation through a radio address. Simply calling on them to "resist by any means possible," the Premier-Führer spoke of how "every Angolan man, woman, and child, must be ready to sacrifice their all against any enemy..."

"...Be they capitalist puppets from Salisbury, or jack-booted gravonists from Wilhemsburg... [we] must all be prepared to sacrifice everything for Angola."

Viktor Rist stops being a General

National Heroes Promoted - December 21st, 1958

Following the untimely retiring of General Viktor Rist, the noble leader of our sacred Republic tasked War Minister Naaman Bogote with seeking out an ideal candidate to fill in a pair of vacant boots. With oversight from the Premier-Führer, Bogote proudly announced to the High Command that he had officially recommended the appointment of Lieutenant General Claudio Cabral, which Volder had agreed with. The newly-appointed General Cabral, known for his current noble task of managing the movement of food rations to coastal civilians with the help of the men under his command, did not actually receive notice of his promotion until hearing of it over the radio.

Being the only member of the High Command of most-entirely Portuguese descent, the Premier-Führer expressed happiness with the promotion as working in tandem with his additional goal of "making the military and government look more like Angola."

Additionally, as per the machinations of the moving chain of command, various other positions were in need of replacement, ultimately including the newly created position of Head of Internal Security for the Luanda Area, a position created subordinate to the Director of the Zivilpolizei. Filling the position is, it would seem, former commander of the women's wing of the Volkskampfgruppen, Hansina Linda, who graciously accepted her appointment in an extravagant speech before the directing board of the Zivilpolizei.

On a more entertaining note, the Angolan Screeners' Guild released the announcement of an upcoming film called Nation's Pride, which will be screened in Luanda sometime next year! While not much is yet known of the film's premise, it has so far promised to be a most explosive tale of heroic patriotism displayed on the frontlines by Angolan soldiers. Rumored to be one of the most high-budget films in recent history, it has accrued tremendous fascination not only by the general populace, but even the Premier-Führer himself. Despite his usually not caring for films made in association with creators from "treacherous England," Volder has expressed that he would keep a firm eye on the development and attention given to the impending cinematic spectacle.

THE TIMES
18.1.1959
Tennant to instate new constitution: Nobility out, Sovereign in
Prime minister Roger Tennant and his government have published their proposition for a new constitution for the country. The constitution has been drafted in cooperation with all the major parties and will be in effect starting from 1.1.1960. It will change three significant things: the heredity of noble titles, the status of constituent countries, and the new office of head of state.

Abolition of hereditary titles
According to the new constitution, noble titles will no longer be passed on to the next of kin. Sons and daughters of dukes, marquesses, earls, viscounts, barons, baronets, and knights born after 1.1.1960 will not be entitled to use these titles in any official circumstances. However, existing titles will remain official until their last bearer dies. Also, 'pretence of nobility' will no longer be a misdemeanour, meaning that it is perfectly legal to use these titles unofficially, be the person related to nobility or not.

This change will be most notable for the Bowes-Lyon family. Duchess Elizabeth of England, her consort Duke Philip, and their children, Lord Charles of Wales and Lady Anne of Cambridge will keep their titles, but When the Duchess dies, her title will not pass on to Lord Charles. Thus, Elizabeth will be the last hereditary head of state of England, but the 32-year-old duchess most likely still has many decades before the end of her reign.

The change of constitution requires a five-sixths majority in the parliament, so the government had to secure the support of Yr Undeb Gealtaidd, the Celtic party with 26 seats. The party leadership made it very clear that they will not back any proposition to weaken the Cornish monarchy, so royal titles were excluded from the abolishment: Queen Lovisa's son Harry and his son Hugo will, in time, become Kings of Cornwall, as will their descendants.

Power stripped from constituent countries
Starting next year, Britannia will no longer be a federation but a unitary republic. The country shifts to a more streamlined system of legislation with significant power in civil matters still remaining in the hands of regional administrations. In effect, the local governments will continue to organise their own postal, social, and police services as well as education, but they will not be able to pass any new local laws without the consent of the British parliament. As a part of this reform, the word 'State' will be removed from the official names of the constituent countries. From now, they will be known simply as England, Scotland, Ireland, Wales, and the Kingdom of Cornwall (sticking to their special status here as well).

It is rumoured that this new system of devolution was proposed by the Conservative party and its inclusion in the new constitution was the only way to get the party to back the proposal. Again, the required support of 450 members of parliament has forced the government to include legislation they did not actually want. Undoubtedly, this will leave a heavy scar on the relations between the Tories and the Scottish and Irish national parties that heavily support stronger autonomy of the constituent countries.

Sovereign to be elected this September
Another major change in the system of government is the creation of the office of the Sovereign. For over 80 years, Britain has been without a politically non-affiliated head of state, and many have spoken for the creation of such an office before. Still, not until the Republican party became a part of Tennant's coalition government has the idea been seriously discussed at the top level. Unlike the monarchs of old, the modern Sovereign will be elected in a direct referendum for 10 years at a time. Sovereign candidates are allowed to be members of a political party, but they must resign their membership if they are elected, as the Sovereign must be politically neutral and only protect the constitution.

First such election will be in September this year, and the winner will start his 10-year tenure at the strike of the new year 1960. The Sovereign will act as the official head of state, host and attend state visits, and appoint the new prime ministers after parliamentary elections. He will also have the right to disband the cabinet if it abuses its power. There has been much discussion as to where the Sovereign's official residence will be, as there are several places in the Greater London area that have the necessary grandeur and banquet facilities. A movement lead by Margaret Thatcher, the only Conservative MP from the Enfield constituency, is demanding Buckingham Palace to be restored as the home of the Sovereign. However, the City of Westminster has announced that they will not agree to move their City Hall away from the former royal palace. Currently, the most likely candidate is Stafford House, a large 19th-century mansion located just 200 metres away from Buckingham Palace and owned by the Foreign Office.

Sovereign germania

Helmstedt, German-Corsicinot Western Front
January 24th, 1959. 0213 Local Time

Seven months. Seven long months of hard fighting had taken its toll on the once enthusiastic men and women of the German Imperial Army’s 9th Infantry Battalion. The bright smiles and high hopes of these soldiers had soon soured not long after their first taste of the true horror and bloodshed of modern warfare. Yet, their determination in their cause had not waived. Rather than abandoning all hope, their enthusiasm hardened into a firm, dutiful determination. And so, the men and women of the 9th Infantry weathered the cold winter rain and snow, along with the civilian populace of the war-torn town of Helmstedt.

The enthusiasm of the populace, while not as high as some other towns, was still enough to give the 9th Infantry a warm welcome when they entered the area in the Empire’s Fall Offensive. As the offensive ground to a standstill mid-October however, and winter started to settle over the land, defensive lines were prepared for the Imperial forces to weather out the upcoming months and hold their recently gained western and southern territory. With the experience of their officers, veterans of the First Great War, trench lines were dug, bunkers and pillboxes hastily constructed, artillery and anti-tank positions established. Limited in armor and aircraft, ad hoc armored vehicles were made and civilian aircraft were converted to serve military roles. These improvised vehicles of war were forced into service alongside the relics dragged out of the museums of the First and Second Great Wars as the Aplotzkiis began their counter-offensive during the winter. Sending armor that was either half a century old or a glorified tractor with some armor welded to it against modern tanks may not have seemed like the best choice to an outside perspective, but it was all that was available at that time. Negotiations with other countries for more modern equipment were sadly still underway, so these relics and civilian vehicles were all that was available in large quantities.

The silence of the cold night was shattered as the boom of the Corsicinot SPGs began opening fire in the distance. Shells rained down upon the entrenched Imperial line, but this occurrence was not new to the 9th Infantry. It was not uncommon for the Aplotzkii forces to deny the Imperials any rest though the night. What changed, however, was as soon as the artillery stopped falling, the roar of jet aircraft and the hum of modern armor replaced the thunder of artillery. This night, the Aplotzkii’s were advancing on the town of Helmstedt with the full force of their technological advantage. Bright flares launched into the sky, their light illuminating the front in the darkness, though soon their light was almost outshone by the amount of lead and ordinance unleashed upon the trench line. Mechanized infantry supported by tanks and aircraft pushed forward, crossing the fields of barbed wire slowly and seemingly with ease, advancing upon the first Imperial trench lines along the outskirts of the town. Little fire was returned by the trenches, and to an outside observer, it would seem as if the will of the 9th Battalion had finally broken and they had fled. Confident, the Aplotzkiis pushed on, deeper into the city.

Of course, the 9th Battalion had not simply broken and fled. Knowing full well they couldn’t take on the Corsicinot military in direct conflict, more advanced and unconventional tactics were needed. So, amidst the fire and advance of the Aplotzkii forces, the 9th retreated from the outskirts deeper into the city, where the real battle would begin.

As a Corsicinot armor column advanced up one of the roads, AT guns hidden in the side roads took out the front and rear tank while explosives were thrown down from the buildings into the armor below. A few blocks away, an Imperial combat engineer pushed down on the plunger of a detonator, explosive charges causing the controlled demolition of a building onto an Aplotzkii mechanized platoon. The deep, continuous thud of old AA guns from the Second Great War was heard as a Corsicinot plane was shot out of the sky by concealed turrets. Mines placed beneath the stones of old roads, snipers in every vantage point, tripwires with shotguns placed in entrances, heavy machine gun nests quietly hidden in the shadows of windows until the bark of their firing revealed them to the enemy in the streets below who quickly were mowed down. Scenes of ambush and guerrilla warfare like those and many others played out across Helmstedt, some successful in eliminating their targets, others not as successful, but all achieved their goal of increasing the psychological pressure and attrition upon the Aplozkiis. Paranoia about every shadow and window soon spread through the attackers while the defenders fought on, waging their new form of warfare. As added pressure, hidden loudspeakers played audio telling the Corsicinot forces to surrender, to leave the service of their false regime and to join their brothers and sisters on the side of Germany.

Slowly, as the sun rose up and the morning mist settled in, the Aplotzkiis pushed deep into the heart of the city center itself, where they heard the beginnings of the 9th Battalion’s counter-attack. The roar of old warengines and the rumble of ancient iron advancing greeted the Aplotzkii forces, most of their own vehicles having been damaged or trapped. The old beasts of wars long ago slowly, unhaltingly advanced, the flags and emblems of an Empire long gone still painted onto their hulls. Some had men who had originally crewed them at their command, both men and machines dedicating their twilight years to restoring the Empire those old decals once represented. Other, more recent pieces of armor rolled forth alongside their old counterparts, some also being crewed by veterans who had experienced the shame and dishonor their former Aplotzkii officers had brought to their homeland by the loss of the Second Great War. With these vehicles advanced the mixed infantry of the 9th Battalion and the civilian militia of Helmstedt, men and women fighting for their families, their lives, their God, and the future of their nation.

By midday, the Corsicinot forces had retreated back to the outskirts of the city, and were in full rout back to their old lines. The 9th Battalion did not pursue past the outer defenses. They simply returned to their old positions, manned their old guns, and waited while their engineers, logistics personnel, and members of the civilian militia began gathering the equipment of the former attackers that had been left behind, and captured those who had surrendered or had been left behind as well. Now was not the time to attack, but the time to build up. To refill losses with captured superior gear and those willing to fight.

Germany holds and waits. She waits for the time and the strength to begin advancing once more. Losses will be taken, and the war will not be a quick one, but in the end, Germany will be victorious, for they have God and the Kaiserin on their side, and now, the tanks of their enemy as well.

Scotia Flow In Detail (sort of) - It Flies - Issue 30, January 1959 (Why did I never put his here?)

After almost three years of development the first prototype of the F56 Thunderscreech took flight. We don't have many specifics about the aeroplane but we can confirm one thing. It is loud. Very, very loud. Probably has some guns. One of our brave journalists asked the lead designer, Alexander Cartwheel, about the loudness of the aircraft.

"Well, you see, the craft is so loud because the blades of the propeller are constantly moving at supersonic speeds. Sounds crazy, right? It will instill FEAR INTO THE ENEMIES OF SCOTIA FLOW! That is, if we had any. Man, I really hope we'd have enemies to test this mighty beast on. Uhh, anyways, the prototype flies, but it has some pretty major maneuverability issues. Now clear off, I am thinking about ways to fix that."

It was an unusually warm day in the mountainous highlands of southern Germany. The summer sun beamed in the sky, radiating heat and light down onto the forest canopy and the assembled armor column driving down the lesser used forest roads, their hard steel absorbing the heat to the discomfort of the crews of these armored vehicles. The vehicle column itself was quite a curious mix of vehicles hailing from different nationalities, from imported farming trucks used as transports to stolen surplus Corsicinot APCs. From Chinese light and medium tanks shipped from the other side of the world, to the beasts that were the Finnish Tyni VIs. Though their country of origin mattered little in their purpose, for the Iron Crosses and Imperial Eagles freshly painted onto the sides of these weapons of war betrayed their true role: as instruments of the Second German Empire.

This particular collection of armored and unarmored vehicles was the Empire’s 29th Motorized Infantry Division escorted by the 16th Armored Brigade. These units were but a part of the 3rd Imperial Army Corp, a semi-hastily constructed corp assembled and organized from veterans, trained soldiers, militiamen and volunteers. While this may not sound like a competent fighting force, a long winter of defensive warfare and guerrilla fighting had given many combat experience while new recruits had gone through a rushed but competent basic training over the past months. Now, what was once a rag-tag group of resistance fighters had been transformed into a disciplined fighting force, one which was about to be unleashed upon their enemy.

The Imperial Spring Offensive began on May 10th, 1959, the 1 year anniversary of the Declaration of Resurrection, the day Kaiserin Viktoria declared the beginning of the Second German Empire. The Corsicinot forces were caught off-guard by the sudden counter-attack from the east and the mass uprisings in the south, forcing them to retreat further and further. Now, over a month into the Spring Offensive, the momentum of the Imperial’s was still going strong. The 3rd Corp was assigned to push the outskirts of Nuremberg and its surrounding towns, with the 29th Motorized and 16th Armored assigned to take the Nuremberg trainyards on the edge of the city.

The radio of the command vehicles crackled to life, the forward scouts having spotted the edge of the railyard. Multiple hastily constructed infantry fortifications surrounded the outside of the yard, with weary Corsicinot soldiers manning the defenses. A quick reorganization of the 16th and 29th later, and the order to advance was given. The roar of engines and the cloud of dust alerted the Corsicinot forces to the approaching Imperial advance, and they quickly rushed to their defenses in response. All around Nuremberg’s south other elements of the 3rd Crop advanced upon the city, and soon the Battle of Nuremberg began.

Apolotskii armor, while more technologically advanced, was outnumbered by the Imperial’s sheer number of vehicles in that region. As the Corsicinot armor traded with the Imperial, above the skies of Nuremberg the modern jets of the Apolotskii conducted CAS operations against the ground forces. Previously, Apolotskii aircraft had encountered deterring, but mostly ineffective Imperial AA efforts. Now, however, radar-guided Chinese Air-to-Ground missiles shot jets out of the sky with more frequency, and the Imperial’s newly acquired Makedonian helicopters began establishing air superiority and support.

The Battle of Nuremberg lasted 18 hours, and in the end, the 3rd Corp had raised the flag of the Second German Empire over Kaiserburg Nürnberg, the Imperial Castle of Nuremberg at the city’s heart. With the securing of the Nuremberg trainyards by the 29th and 16th during the battle, new equipment could be transported more easily across the entire front, speeding up the rate at which the Spring Offensive could be supplied. The momentum of the Imperial Army would continue, it would seem, for the next few weeks at least.

“Well, that’s all the major refits done, Admiral.” said the master of the drydock, a short, gruff looking man in civilian workman’s attire. “She’s got a lot of work to be done further on though, but she’ll float and she’ll fight.”
“Exemplary work, Mr. Klein. The handiwork of you and your men is beyond expectation. Truly fine craftsmen for such a fine vessel,” responded the old Admiral dressed in naval whites, chest adorned with medals from an era long ago.
“Thank you, Admiral. It’s a miracle we could even find her, and here she is now, as ready for war as the day she was first launched.” said Mr. Klein. “Such an ancient, noble giant.”
“Indeed, Mr. Klein. Such fortunes for us. Naval Command is very excited to have such a fine warship returning to the service of the German Empire once more, especially the Kaiserin herself.”

The drydock master chuckled a little and nodded, leaning against the rail that overlooked the drydock and the vessel that was contained within. “Makes sense. That ship and the Kaiserin share the same lineage, in a way. It’s only just that she’s the first to be restored.” The men gazed at the behemoth of steel, the ancient Kaiser-class battleship shining with a fresh coat of paint. Iron crosses and Imperial Eagles adorned her, and her name was painted in the old German alphabet on her bow: the SMS Kaiserin, named for Auguste Viktoria, wife to Kaiser Wilhelm II and grandmother of the current Kaiserin Viktoria.

Soon, this titan of the sea would once more be sent forth as a ship of war after such a long slumber. She would fight against the regime that had destroyed the old nation she had once served, and obliterate the dynasty that had killed her namesake all those decades ago. She will fight with the fury and righteous cause that her sister, Kaiserin Viktoria espoused. And soon, more of her sister ships will join her upon the seas of the Baltics and the world.

First Native German Consecrated Patriarch – April 23rd, 1958

In a historic moment for the holy faith, Albrecht Ritter has become the first ethnic German to be consecrated a Patriarch (Bishop) in the Ecclesiastical Faith's Hierarchy. Albrecht Ritter was amongst the first Germans to convert to the faith following Germany's collapse in the second Great War. Over the course of two decades, he joined the monkhood and eventually rose to become a Priest. His years of dedication alongside the ever-growing number of German faithful convinced the Sēngjiā Council to consecrate Ritter Patriarch of Berlin. Furthermore, as the only German to have achieved this rank in the ecclesiastical hierarchy, Ritter has de facto become the spokesman for the faith in Germany as a whole as well as the highest German religious authority.

President Chen's European Visit – December 22nd, 1958

In a historic visit abroad, President Chen traveled to Germany, Hungary, Finland, and Britannia. In his first stop, President Chen arrived in Magdeburg to further solidify the relations between the Republic of China and Korea (RCK) and the Second German Empire and its ruler, Her Royal Majesty, Viktoria Madeleine Louise Charlotte von Hohenzollern. While there was some concern about the President visiting a nation in the midst of a violent civil war, the risk was ultimately deemed sufficiently small and the meeting important enough.

President Chen met Kaiserin 29 years his junior at her holiday residence outside of Magdeburg, where she was spending the holiday season with her father while simultaneously remaining relatively near the front lines. Dressed in his Marshal's uniform President Chen had lengthy closed-door discussions with the Kaiserin. The details of their conversations are unknown; however, it is speculated by pundits that the President committed desperately needed military resources and supplies to the cause of Hohenzollern restoration alongside reiterating the RCK's commitment to the fledgling nation.

Soon after he met with the Kaiserin, President Chen flew to Buda, where he met with King Matthias III and Palatine László Bárdossy. While the leaders almost certainly spoke about the ongoing civil war in Germany, President Chen's visit is seen chiefly as a symbolic move on behalf of the New Republic to shore up all ties and strengthen relations with the RCK's strategic European partners. In that same vein, the President also flew to Helsinki and met with Hallita Urho Kekkonen to reaffirm Sino-Finnish ties.

For the final leg of his European visit, President Chen visited Britannia and met with Prime Minister Tennant. The trip highlights the complex nature of the RCK's foreign policy. The President's Institutional Revolutionary Party believes in a range of broadly leftist economic and social policies. Still, the military which brought the government into power has long been a bastion of more conservative mindsets, with President Chen as a unifying figure. It was the conservative voice of the military and, to a lesser extent, the clergy that led the President to visit Imperial Germany and the more liberal voices of the President's civilian cabinet leading to the visit in Britannia. Many from all sides of the political spectrum have expressed hopes that the upcoming 1960 elections will resolve the political divide.

Death of the Supreme Patriarch – March 13th, 1959

The nation's faithful awoke to great sadness to learn that on this, The 13th day of the Lotus in the Year of the Yellow Stork that Soars Over the Second Pearl, His Holiness the Venerable Supreme Patriarch of the Holy Faith Xu Yun has passed away. His soul having surely transcended to the heavens. Few can remember a time before the supreme patriarch having lived for an astounding 119 years. Thus, he dies having been one of the oldest living people in the world, a sure testament to his piety and immense faith.

Upon learning of his death, the government immediately declared a national day of mourning as shops and restaurants, and schools closed as millions flocked to temples around the nation and the world. Hundreds of thousands traveled to Beijing, where an ornate pyre has been erected for the Supreme Patriarch's ceremonial cremation, millions more tuned in over the radio and television sets to observe the funerary procession and the funeral ceremony itself. In cities across the nation, monks led somber processions chanting and singing for the soul of the highest religious leader in the land.

It is the traditional right of every Supreme Patriarch to nominate a successor, and it is inconceivable too many that the Sēngjiā Council, when it convenes following the conventional mourning period, will select anyone other than High Patriarch Xuan Hua, the protege of the late Supreme Patriarch and his nominated successor.
