"Hm.", is the sound that came from his mouth as the Duke spoke.

In fact the aura, the attitude this englishman gave off made Rodrigo sick. Thinking he was better than the Iberians.
"Indeed, well if you excuse me I must make merry, the proclamation should be occurring soon however. We're just awaiting one more foreign guest, The Homelander.", he'd give a smile before walking off to a group of Iberian nobles, speaking in Spanish as he approached.

For now the Brit was alone, allowed to eat food and drink expensive champagne or mingle with all the Lords and Ladies of the emperor

The Duke smiled as Rodrigo excused himself, though it promptly left his face as the man left, a sense of relief coming over him. For them to call themselves the 'new nobility' of Europe was laughable, seeing as they were the ones to bring to an end an era of lasting peace in Europe, he thought to himself. As he took a sip of champagne, he scanned the room until his eyes fixed on the Adriatic Vice President. "Ah. Finally someone respectable around here." he said to himself as he slowly walked towards the man, not intending to interrupt.

New French Presidential Elections

Postponed by the war with Iberia, the elections are due to begin next month. The war, and notably the diplomatic failure of the peace deal, has caused a major shift in French politics, as distrust in Lapointe and his leadership ever strengthens. The other candidates are using this opportunity to push their own campaigns, most notably the right-wing Luc Bouvier. However, today, on the deadline for placing bids, none other than Louis Prince Napoléon has entered the race. With popular opinion ever shifting away from Lapointe's system, the people are voicing their want for a more stable and sure approach.

Candidates:

Francois Lapointe - Le Centre - Centrist Liberal

Luc Bouvier - Rassemblement national - Right-wing, Nationalist

Louis Prince Napoléon - Bonapartiste - Monarchist

Early polling data clearly shows the decline of Lapointe's popularity, and a narrow lead for Prince Napoléon. From the general opinion of the populace and preliminary results, it seems Lapointe won't be able to hold onto another 4 years in power. Therefore, it seems likely that the battle will be between the nationalists and the bonapartists.

I need to get around to meeting with the neighbors.

The Unified American Federation wrote:As the Vice President and Minister of Defense entered the building, they looked at the images lining the hallway. The Destruction of the Capitol during the 2nd Civil War, The Burning of Wall Street, The Day of Justice, The Annexation of Canada, many of the sorrows and achievements lined the walls which reminded Delroy of his age. There was a Mural of Leif Erikson on the Ceiling which had a phrase written under it in Norse. "The Northern Saviour."

The two men took their seats after Eriksen and Delroy shook a second time. "It is truly an honor to be sure, though it is one which will require the acknowledgement that Culturally it may be a bit...difficult to endure some of these conditions. Militarily, all OFN nations will have similar command structures, though each nation simply has to follow a guideline. Above all else, it is a Mutual Defense Pact, wherein an attack on one member is considered an attack on all other members. Any Offensive wars, any attempts of national expansion, the OFN will not participate in the aid of. Secondly and most importantly, International cooperation between our military allows for nations to station troops in any other nation if said host country wishes to accept them, an example would be us allowing Scandinavian Bases in Alaska if we were allowed onto Svalbard for example." The Vice President spoke firmly and soon began to turn more serious.

"One thing to note Prime Minister but...we know that Scandinavia was left untouched during the majority of the Gem Wars." The older man took in a deep breath before gently sliding over a folder which was lined in blue leather. "America could help subsidize the development of offworld colonies and the creation of a space fleet for your nation but, know that in accepting this, your people understand that they will see firsthand all of the horror and, all of the beauty this Galaxy of ours has within it." The man lightly placed his hands modestly down after taking a drink of cold water. "I know this may not be an easy decision but, this is just the first round of talks. In time, we hope to show some of your leaders first hand what the OFN will provide...and why we began this pact." His words were still filled with hope, even from such a tired and war exhausted expression.

Prime Minister Eriksen grabbed the folder and began reading over it, whilst replying to Vice President Delroy's previous statements, "I assure you the Scandinavian government and military are more than okay to allow American and French bases within Scandinavia, and the mutual defense pact will be beneficial for the Scandinavians more than not," she paused to finish reading the paragraph and continued to put down the folder, "Scandinavia accepts the aid to develop offworld colonies and a creation of a space fleet. The pros simply outweigh the cons, I understand the galaxy has plenty of horrors and we learned that with the development of our Teegarden colonies, but the expansion of a spacefaring military would be great." The Prime Minister looked over at Minister Matti for a nod of reassurance, and looked back at VP Delroy

"Our biggest concern however isn't commitment, it is cost. Scandinavia is a small nation, and our economy may not be able to handle a trillion dollar commitment to a space faring military. What is it that this alliance could do to prevent an economic failure?" the tone of her voice mimicked the Vice Presidents, serious and firm

RUBRUS QUARANTINE ZONE, RUBRUS SYSTEM

The skies rained and thundered, the ground filled with a fine white sand-like grains while skulls and others skeletal remains, some perfectly maintained and others broken littered the area and sitting on it all was a decaying serpent like creature, its teeth still within the mouth that looked like it was grinning, the eyes however were long gone by now. Behind the decaying serpent was the entrance to a cave with no light source.

|LIEUTENANT ROSA|:"CP this is Phoenix-1, we've reached the inner zone. Subject 11A is.. well they're dead, it's literally falling apart. Chunks are missing, it's eyes are gone. It's freaking us out."

|COMMAND POST SANADA|: "copy that Phoenix-1, patching you through to HQ."

|DR. REGO|: "Phoenix-1, this is Dr. Rego. I'm to believe that blasted serpent is dead? How can this be!

Rosa looked at his men, giving off an annoyed look before speaking again into his comms.
|LIEUTENANT ROSA|: "uhhhh.. we just got here sir. Been dead for awhile. We've found an uncharted cave though sir. Requesting permission to enter."

|DR. REGO|: Rego was silent for a moment... the serpent had eluded the colonial forces for years, spreading pestilence and death.. but now it's dead, could the cave be it's den? The home of what killed it? Or just.. there. Curiosity took hold.
"Granted."

Rosa looked back at his team once more, gesturing for them to follow, putting on their helmet faceplates, activating night vision and their respirators. The cave went deep and soon they could look up and only see darkness... it felt like they weren't on the same planet... then dead end. There was nothing but stone.. but they could hear water, flowing behind some rock and upon closer inspection it was felt that the layer of rock was thin and could potentially be destroyed with minimal force. Rosa then instructed a few of his troops to dismantle the rock wall and thar they did, entering the new area, a large cavern.

This new subterranean area was.. spectacular. There was glowing flora and several large but calm & stationary creatures including bioluminescent jellyfish floating in random parts of the area. There was a stream of red water flowing further into the cavern, now like a new world with the large open space, as they explored further they'd see a structure, almost like a temple or fortified palace.. maybe both.
Naturally Rosa and his troops moved to this location and found themselves inside and going further before facing a great door made of what seemed like perfectly stone, engraved with symbols and events. Strangely in the middle of the pair of the doors was a large symbol, a straight line and atop it a sort of half circle, like horns facing upwards.

The troops attempted to push the doors open and succeeded, finding themselves in a chamber filled with candles, though put out by the introduction of wind.. yet the darkness didn't hide the bones and the putrid smell of death.
At the end of the room though.. there was something that brought shock to everyone.. it was the very same symbol they found on the door standing as a structure in front of a great throne and upon it a person in a torn flowing white dress that reached the ground and went down the stairs of the elevated floor. They were crucified and parts of their flesh were missing revealing.. nothing, as if hollow.

Suddenly the voids within the body of the figure began to glow gold as the building began to shake... then something sounded like it shattered, like glass... or a crouton. In a state of panic and now mania the troops including Rosa began to scream, their ears filling with ringing before either stabbing themselves with their knives or shooting themselves point blank in the face.

Back at HQ Dr. Rego barely got any of it.. static and the lack of life signs from the team but on the spotty live feed the last thing they had seen was the crucified figure.. then static. Rego then picked up a phone, not able to keep his eyes off the screen still.

|DR. REGO|: "Alert the admiral.. no.. contact the crown."

"What do you plan to do if you are elected?" The interviewer asked Prince Napoléon.

"Simply put, I believe the Bonaparte strategy is the solution to our nation's problems. We have a weak government that caved into a foreign invader when we easily could have won. No doubt, this is a catastrophic failure and an embarrassment for our entire nation, and I hope to make France into the great nation it once was."

"And how do you plan to do that?"

"We will strengthen our military and ensure it is more prepared for a sudden invasion. More money will need to go towards science and technology to keep France at the forefront of technological advances, and investment into interstellar technologies can boost our presence in space."

"Of course, the Bonapartes who ruled France before were militarist. Would you follow in their footsteps?" The interviewer replies

"Well, a strong military is necessary for defence, so in that aspect yes. However, I don't think an invasion of Germany or Russia is on the cards." The man chuckles slightly.

"Yes, I agree there. And what about the political structure? You have voiced some annoyance over the current state of politics."

"Well, for starters, the devolved parliaments are causing more harm than good. Instead of this system, I propose that we get rid of the federal structure and instead allocate positions in the senate more evenly between regions. As a compromise will no doubt be needed, more power to the departments will be provided."

"I'll ask the question on everyone's minds this election - do you wish to take the position of Emperor?"

"If the people want it, we'll just have to wait and see."

Seeing the British showed up gave him a slight glimpse of hope that the mood would ever so slightly shift.

As the Duke finally caught the attention of Vice President Pavlović a smile beamed across his face and he extended one arm in a friendly manner to clutch Pavlović's shoulder, and to shake his hand with the other, clearly a welcome sight to the Duke. "Mr Vice President," he bellowed, "what a pleasure it is to see you. His Majesty the King, my distant cousin, sends his warmest regards and hopes to eventually meet you in the near future - despite the company we find ourselves in at this so-called Ball, I think you and I can both agree our nations have a lot of interests in common, but peace above all of course. Though you didn't hear that last part from me, technically I'm not here in an official capacity. Anyway, how are you?" he asked.

A week prior, the primary elections eliminated Lapointe, with him gaining only 24% of the vote. Now the race was between Napoléon and Bouvier, with them gaining 41% and 35% respectively.

As voters swarmed through the polling station, France stood still and watched and waited in anticipation. One of the most important elections in living memory, the entire future of the nation was in the hands of the people. And with the political climate, many expected a sudden change. Glued to their televisions, they awaited the announcement for the exit poll results - due for 8pm that evening. And the announcement came.

On screens across the country, the results flashed up.

38% Bouvier, 62% Napoléon.

Across the nation, cheers erupted for the return of the Bonaparte line to power in France, as celebrations began throughout the country. However, Bouvier publicly announced his unwillingness to stand down, vowing to return in the next cycle. The nation was in a state excitement and disbelief - the line of power gone for two hundred years was again in power, and in the coming weeks, Louis Prince Napoléon would be brought in as the President of New France. This is beginning a new era in French history.

This is beginning a new era in French history.

In Britain, the reaction to the news that France had elected another Napoleon was of some surprise, but not completely. The British Prime Minister herself, Lady Helen Briar, called to personally congratulate the new President-elect of France on his victory, and hoped that it could lead to more cooperation between Britain and France. In a statement, she had this to say:

"...it is certainly true that there was a longing sense of disappointment across this country that a proud nation such as France had even considered giving in to the unreasonable, ridiculous and frankly outrageous demands of a third rate regime in Iberia, and that she had surrendered her own citizens to a foreign invader as well as left the people of Italy to the mercy of their illegal conquerors. The Iberian regime has shown itself to be a pariah on the global stage and its leaders unfit to rule, the sooner they are gone the better, both for Europe and the world. I called the President-elect not long ago to congratulate him personally, and I hope that he has it in him to do what is necessary in the interests of France and of the security of peace and freedom in Europe, something the Iberians have abandoned for their own ridiculous expansionism..."

Widely regarded by British and foreign media to be the strongest official statement from a British politician yet, it's clear the Prime Minister would not mince her words on her views of Iberia, and that of the British Government. It remained to be seen how France would react, and what they would do to resecure their position, but it seems now that it's more likely that British support is not far away.

With the refusal of the Scandinavians to visit a new invitation was sent out.. not to Europeans or nobility but to an outsider.. an American. The Homelander himself would have an invitation signed personally by the Emperor arrive on his doorstep for a ball in Madrid.

Project Daimyo testing ground

The 25 foot tall mech strode out into the field. In its servos a gun that the barrel would look right at home on a 8.8cm flak cannon. The armor was in the colors of the Oda clan and named after the infamous/famous Oda Nodunaga. It was one of currently 14 others. As the Mech took a kneeling position and fired at some old M1A1s . Sending the round screaming into the front plate. The rounds however don't seem to show much damage.

(I am taking the guess they are old since UAF is likely using the Scorpion tank from Halo.)

At this the mech then changed the ammunition. With the clip having the abbreviation HEAT printed on the clip. The round impacted and sent a spout of fire from the top of the turret.

"We might need to switch out the Oda patterns gun for something heavier," said one of the projects members as they jotted down notes. Around them others where doing the same as the Mechs all went through their different tests

"Maybe add a better EMP in the Tokugawa," said another.

"All good ideas gentlemen but remember the top brass are waiting for the go ahead with getting the assembly line spitting out theses mechs," said the Overseer.

Question for the military buffs what's better HESH or HEAT?

Kinzoku kasai wrote:Question for the military buffs what's better HESH or HEAT?

HESH for Fortifications, HEAT for Armored targets

HESH relies on the shockwave to kill those within an armored target but it relies on a nonreactive material to do so like solid steel, and most armor nowadays has counteractive explosives to disperse that energy.

HEAT though relies on a shaped charge which can fire a stream of molten metal all within the target. It needs more accuracy but much more lethal if you hit a target.

Alright so keep the HEAT rounds as the Daimyo mechs are meant to be a nibble anti-tank kind of hardware.

ARKADIEN — Tempelhof, unlike Arkadien—Wilhelm Intl., was rather quiet, being a military airbase and all. The response from tower was rather quick.

          | EDDI TOWER | "Space Force One, EDDI Tower, cleared for approach Runway 10. Maintain 150 meter descent rate. You're cleared to land."

The airbase itself only had two runways but was still pretty expansive, having a large amount of facilities and ramps to house all sorts of aircraft equipment, including bombers and fighter craft. Once the aircraft was landed, EDDI Ground guided them to Ramp 27, where some imperial guard members and a limousine were waiting.

As the large Presidential plane landed, the tugs at the front of the plane let out one final burst to slow it down until their engines were cut off and the plane followed EDDI Ground towards Ramp 27. The President himself took the first step out of the plane as his Wife and Son soon followed along with two members of their secret service detail down toward the Imperial Guard. The President saluted the Guardsmen as he looked over towards the Limousine, awaiting further instructions.

As Homelander entered the skies above the Imperial Palace he'd have the feeling of being watched, and perhaps he already knew what it was... around him, hovering in place with swords in hand, the blades pointing down was the Golden Wings of the Imperial Guard, their jetpacks silently humming as their wings were extended. One may of expected them to say something, confirming Homelanders arrival.. but no, they were like statues or angels.

As he came the ground, the Guardsmen at the main doors were shocked, starstruck to say the least. There was silence from both guards until their commanding officer on horseback trotted over, getting off his horse after.
"I doubt I need to ask for your invitation.. we all know who you are Homelander.", the officer laughed before gesturing for him to follow.
Inside as they passed more guards and servants all turned, speaking Spanish to each other though there was one common word 'Homelander'.

Once at the doors to the ballroom the herald looked up from his magazine, proceeding to drop it and clear his throat.
Y-youre-....", the herald continued to stumble over his words before sighing and opening the doors behind him.

"ANNOUNCING, THE HOMELANDER!", he shouted.

All fell silent, all eyes upon him. The nobles were wide-eyed especially the children and females. Children including younger teenagers in rather expensive clothes began to run over as the noblewomen talked amongst each other. One of these children however was the youngest child of the Emperor, Prince Radigis II.
Imperial Guardsmen then began walking over from the other end of the room, politely ushering away the fans.. then suddenly the Emperor himself was in front of homelander and his child. A cane in hand though standing tall. His attention wasn't on homelander however but his child and his child reciprocated that attention.
"Return to the table child.", the Emperor then kneeled, pinching the cheek of his child before the little gremlin walked back.

The room still had their eyes on homelander and the Emperor knew this..
"Everyone please! Homelander like you is a guest! Only a little more powerful and American!", he joked with a smile on his face before putting his hand on Homelanders shoulder, everyone gradually returning to their festivities.. most at least.

Emperor Radigis, gestured Homelander to follow him back to his table.
"Homelander.. homelander, you're perhaps one of the only men in the world, perhaps the entire galaxy that everyone can identify. Such is your contribution to the arts, to humanity.", Radigis smiled as he looked to the servants to Fetch drinks.
"So why did you decide to come? Did you know what I had in store for you? The great homelander.", he'd ask as the guards began to look over. A cuirassier also entered the hall and began to walk over with three other men following behind him.

"What do we have on file for this thing is it a Halo," Vitalievna demand as her command staff observed a hologram of the ring.

"It shares similarities with one visually speaking ma'am but, with all our attempts to scan it being jammed by some unknown device ground side. We can only speculate for now," said Captain Stahl.

Admiral Vitalievna stared at the holo of the ring contemplating her options. Halos don't normally have a scan jammer unless previous documented findings were in some way incomplete. Turning to the Warrant Officer she said "Get taskforce adamant on the wire tell Kyanite we have a Halo Ring undocumented in our current ”system”. They are to rondevue with us over the Ring and ready for ground operations as scanners are being jammed. If this is a Halo and has been compromised by the Flood we are to destroy the Ring."

"Right away ma'am," he said before going to the comms. Officer relaying the orders.

It a few days later that ground side operations began with Commander Radec controlling the operations. Already a field ops was being set up on the new find. Scout teams were also trying to find the normal universal land marks found a Halo but, they had yet to find the cartographer, Library or, firing arrays thought that was a given most if not all where as Intel had it was hidden in installation 00. Most of the infantryman where armed with the VC30 Sickle or LS13 Shotguns with a few STA-52s armed with the new rads rounds. It was best time to see the effects of irradiated munitions against life forms like the Flood if the Ring was compromised.

However whatever was jamming or negating scanners seem to also make hell with ground side comms arrays making contact with the fleet and taksforce sporadic. So reports had to be sent back up via shuttle with some or other officers aid playing message currier. An insufficient system never the less it was better than trying to break through the noise at the moment.

    I’M SORRY SERGEI, I CAN’T DO THAT

Sverdrup was a quiet chunk of the moon, some of the easiest ice deposits to reach, and a generally flat surface spanning its entire area. If it wasn’t for the work done here, it’d be a paradise on the Earth’s gray neighbor, but for now it remains a dusty and quiet field, a motel rather than a luxury hotel. That was to be expected though, half of the base wasn’t even made by the Republic. Truth be told, the Republic had mooched off the Soviet’s for much of its early space fairing history. A fixed version of the N1 was used to land on the moon for the first time in 1994, and from there things took off, well, like a rocket. A few more versions of the N1 were used until 2015, ending on the N5, but ultimately they were clunky abominations containing old beaten up fuel valves and new cutting edge avionics. When ANSA began working on a new launch vehicle, one N4 was still in storage from 02’ and when it became clear that there was no hope of the new rocket launching Zvezda, the old sh*t saw a final flight. So in summary, a piece of modified 1960’s junk launched something designed in the 80’s, in the year 2002.

Maintenance was the main workload on Zvezda, be it the base springing a leak in its coolant systems or the ‘lifeboat’ needing to have its tank’s thermal insulation redone. In second place was the main objective of Zvezda base: The extraction of lunar ice to sustain water supplies on the base while preparing an underground area for storage of FK-1 missiles. Chances stood that they’d never be used, but it was deemed a ‘strategic necessity’ and so the work went on. Those who had an issue with it ended up among the mounds all of 50 meters from Zvezda’s front doors, shallowly buried in the regolith. There were three of them, each unmarked but clear in what they covered.

For the crew of six, it was just another day in paradise.

    PROCLAMATION OF THE NEW EMPIRE

Madrid Imperial Palace, Grand Ball

The music silenced and a shout was heard over all noise.
"Ladies and gentlemen! Emperor Radigis!".

Everyone then turned to face the end of the room, the Emperor stepping away from his throne, a cane in hand while standing tall. He wore black and gold robes. At his sides joined his Heirs, Johan, Cyrila, Fulcaire and Rykard. Out of the ceiling cameras descended, looking directly at Radigis.. across the empire people watched and listened.

My subjects, citizens of the empire, loyal generals and member of peerage and government.. I stand before you today humbled. The nation we find ourselves in.. ten years ago we knew chaos until the men and women that fought for my vision lead us through the gates of Madrid and Lisbon.. we fought through the Gems... until now, our lands knew war. With new citizens both in the great expanse that is space and on Earth stretching from Morocco and across the Mediterranean, it seems our Empire is not only comprised of just Iberians but so much more.. to honour not only how far our empire has come, how far our people have gone the Empire shall be reorganized. No longer will be known as simply the Empire of the Iberians, but the Empire of the Latins! In this empire a single group doesn't take Precedent, all are equal in the eyes of God and the law. Iberians, Spaniards.. portugese, Neapolitans, Sicilians Moroccans, Corsicans, Sardinians, licáns and more!

As we continue on into the future I intend to rule with not the past in mind but the future. This is why I invite those that fought us or saw us as a evil to be our comrades. The French, The Leithanians, the British, the Slavs. However we must not forget there will always be those that wish to our progress halt, to see us burn. It is exactly for this reason why we must secure our nation, our interests and most of all, our faith.

Glory to the Latins! Glory to the Empire!

Mustering Force

As the speech went on it was apparent that elements of the 3rd Army and the 1st, 2nd and 3rd Regiments of the Imperial Guard were preparing for unknown operations. The Imperial Guard Regiments in specific were mustering in Catania, Sicily with naval transports approaching the area, along with a few Scarab-class starships and transports. The elements from the Imperial Grand Army were in Lisbon, specifically Samouco Air Base, boarding Solar transports for unknown purposes.

The CESID has meanwhile begun contact with groups in Somalia and Ethiopia, most notably the current head of the Solomonids. These communications have mostly gone well, with the Solomonids gaining not only funding but weaponry of Iberian/Latin origin. What happens next is yet to be seen.
