I can't disagree with your first statement. But to approach on cat feet? No.
The "vast and uncaring majority" are exactly the ones that need to be confronted by these issues, if not ungently. Uncaringness and thoughtlessness are exactly the things that need to need to be understood by the people themselves in things like this. How else are people to grow? If, after they themselves reexamine and reconsider the issue and choose to maintain their belief, one would hope more intelligently, then I'll respectfully disagree and continue on.
You strike me as fairly intelligent, so we'll part ways on this matter here.

I suppose anything is possible, including that.
I do find it unlikely, however, that someone could say
I'm a female, a male, genderqueer, a transman, a t-girl, agender, a two-spirit and non-binary. All at the same time. I cover all possibilities and I'm proud of it.
And then act as such.

Incidentally, the most unique descriptor I've heard in recent times is anthrosexual, where you're attracted to anything with a humanoid form, including fur, scales, etc in anthropomorphic form, but in his case only female ones. Not one I'd heard till this year you know.

Interesting. I'd not read of this one, but am familiar with the concept. Sci-fi don't ya know. ;)
Perhaps other prefixes could be added to distinguish between the various types such as cisanthro, lesanthro, gayanthro and bianthro and so on. It would depend on the number of people that identify with this gender and their motivation to do so I'd imagine.

Student Loan Debt wrote:I’ve been reading you all’s conversation and find it interesting. I have a question for you all and your thoughts. Which seems like a better term; LGBTQ+ or Queer?

Not many like using the term Queer due to its history as a slur and that’s a valid feeling. I myself identify with Queer and personally see it as more inclusive of a term. Unlike LGBTQ+, it doesn’t rely on an acronym which only gives identity to a few identities. Gays, lesbians, and bisexuals are mentioned, but all others are thrown under a +. Transgender, like sexuality, it’s just one identity cause there’s many (trans man, trans woman, non-binary, genderqueer, agender, etc) but they are not elaborated on in the acronym and just get a T. “Queer” doesn’t favor specific identities and is inclusive to all.

Along with that, I like “Queer”s connection to the earlier sexual and gender rights movements whereas “LGBT“ is a more recent term

Despite being of an older generation and having grown up understanding it as a derogatory, I rather like the word queer these days for reasons that have nothing to do with the slang definition when I was young (i.e., largely for simplicity's sake), though either is fine imo.

Edited.

I think LGBT refers more to the four most well known groups, (lesbian, gay, bi, and trans), while queer refers more to the spectrum. Thus, those who fit easily into any of the main groups would likely prefer LGBT, while those who are more “fluid” or “in between” would prefer queer. Ultimately, just go by what the individual prefers, although I think the best term in general is LGBTQ+, which includes the four main groups, queer, and more. Some use LGBTQIA+, but I think this just confuses much of the general population, as many do not know what the I and the A are for (asexual and intersex, respectively).

Nah, coronavirus is such a hassle but thats okay. I'm highly contented with just a slow internet and a 2GB RAM computer running on Win7. If coronavirus just never happened, I might looking for a new crush now (I want a foreigner because I like having cultural contacts with other country's people.).

My country's coronavirus cases reach over 50,000 cases with 14,000 recoveries and 1,372 deaths. I think my country is doing bad this pandemic despite our country produces good nurses abroad.

The official Forest Crystal Jubilee Flag Contest has begun! For our upcoming 15th anniversary, we will be flying a special jubilee flag, designed by one of you! Here's the dispatch:

12 July 2020

Greetings, citizens of Forest, and of our allied regions!

In just a few weeks, Forest will be celebrating its 15th birthday. It was in the first week of August 2005 when our original founder Devdan first established a place for us all amongst the trees. Devdan predates any of our current members, and vanished completely by the end of 2005, but early 2006 saw Errinundera and several other Forest luminaries already present here in the grounds we now call home. Errin would go on to become the region’s first WA delegate, and it wasn’t long until Ransium arrived on the scene. After struggling with identity and defense, common problems for any small founderless region, a re-founding was conducted with Errin as our new Founder, and Ransium soon became our WA delegate – a position continued to this day.

In the time since its founding, a length of time that is truly remarkable by the standards of an internet game or community, Forest has grown from a small region of a couple dozen nations to a widely-recognized and commended region of several hundred players, with a distinctive personality and a respected voice at the table of the gaming community. We are going strong, and together we can make the celebration of this, our Crystal Jubilee, a warming, welcoming, and informative occasion for our citizens and allies.

While the majority of the jubilee commemoration is being developed and will be unveiled as we reach the appropriate time, the first of our Crystal Jubilee events is here – in fact, it is starting today!

Forest’s Crystal Jubilee Flag Contest

To commemorate Forest’s 15th anniversary, we will fly a special jubilee flag on our homepage for the duration of the celebration. In accordance with our tradition, this flag will be designed via a contest, with the winner voted upon by you, our citizens!

Contest rules:

1)
The contest shall run for approximately two weeks, from the time of this announcement until 11:59pm Pacific Time on Sunday, July 26 (0659 GMT, July 27)

2) Submissions may be made either by A) posting in the relevant thread in our offsite forums (https://forest.freeflarum.com/d/184-forests-crystal-jubilee-flag-contest, or B) via direct telegram to me, Verdant Haven, and I will post them on your behalf.

3) A vote will be held following to determine winner shortly after the completion of the submission period. Should a design receive a majority of the votes in the first round, it shall be declared the winner. If no flag receives a majority in the first round, a run-off shall be held between the two submissions receiving the most votes.

4) The proportions of the submitted design must be a 3:2 ratio, width to height. Contestants should be aware that the final display image will be no larger than 300x200, and voting will be based off an image no greater than that size.

5) The design contest is open to all residents of Forest and of our Embassy regions

6) Voting will be open to all Native Residents of Forest (those who reside here and have more influence here than in any other region).

7) All designs are subject to approval by the Crystal Jubilee committee prior to inclusion in the vote. Please refrain from anything that might be considered inappropriate or offensive.

I look forward to seeing the designs!

I'd note again that gender ans sexuality can't really be conflated, but I guess what you're describing there is genderfluid.

But then the whole binary gender notion feels like a construct anyway, as does arbitrary sexuality. If I've been attracted to a woman before she physically transitioned from the male body she was born with, what does that make my sexuality? If I prefer to rp female characters, and prefer adult entertainment where I can imagine I'm a lesbian, what does that mean? What if half the time in my dreams I'm a woman? What if there's straight men that I'd kiss, but I've only ever lived women?

I feel comfortable in a male role with a female wife, but that doesn't categorise me as cis straight male, and not fitting that exactly doesn't categorise me as anything else. I'm just me!

The New World: Climate Map

Climate Key
The climate map uses the Köppen climate classification system. You can read more about it Linkhere. Climate groups are classified using a two or three letter name, and some have common names.
Every color represents a different (or a few different) climate group. Each climate name has a Wikipedia link to that climate's Wikipedia page.

A or Tropical Climates
Dark blue: Af or Linktropical rainforest
Blue: Am or Linktropical monsoon
Light blue: As/Aw or Linktropical savanna
B or Dry Climates
Red: BWh or Linkhot desert
Pink: BWk or Linkcold desert
Orange: BSh or Linkhot steppe
Light orange: BSk or Linkcold steppe
C or Temperate Climates
Yellow: Csa/Csb/Csc or LinkMediterranean
Pale green: Cwa/Cfa or Linkhumid subtropical
Bright green: Cfb/Cfc/Cwb/Cwc or Link oceanic
D or Continental Climates
Sky blue: Dsa/Dsb/Dwa/Dwb/Dfa/Dfb or Linkhumid continental
Dark green: Dsc/Dsd/Dwc/Dwd/Dfc/Dfd or Linksubarctic
E or Polar Climates
Light gray: ET or Linktundra
Dark gray: EF or Linkice cap

FAQ: Why didn't you include every climate type as its own color?
This map is based off of real-life weather phenomena. Using the latitude on the side of the map, I determined wind patterns and ocean currents. Then, using that, I determined climate based off of local temperature and precipitation. This is why I won't let you change your climate without changing location, even if you ask nicely.
However, in the real world, it's much easier to make such a map, as you simply take weather measurements from around the world. This allows you to define many more climate types that have much smaller variation. I simply cannot determine enough variables to figure out how every single type would be placed, so I just picked the major ones and lumped the smaller ones in.

Forest Map Request Form

by Octopus islands

I am going to keep this up for nostalgia's sake. I am not the cartographer for Forest anymore. Do not DM me asking me to put you on the map. Instead, visit Forest's page and find the map page and DM whoever is the appropriate, current cartographer.

_______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________

Fill out the form below and send it in a telegram to Octopus islands.
The first four questions are mandatory. The rest are optional.
You must have over 50 SPDR (influence) to be on the map. Check the climate map to make sure that the location you are in is of a climate you like, as I will not be changing the climates on the climate map.

FAQ
Can I get onto the map?
Forest's map is on an opt in basis. Any nation who wants to be on the regional map must have a regional Influence rating of 50 SPDR or higher. You can check your regional influence here. Influence is a measure of a combination of World Assembly endorsements and length of time spent in a region. Nations below 50 SPDR must wait until they reach that level before applying.

How big can my nation be?
I'm willing to work it out with you, so the following numbers are not a strict rule, but a general guideline. Your nation should generally be (x) long if your influence is (y):
- 750 km for 50-100 influence
- 1,000 km for 100-1000 influence
- 1,500 km for 1000-2000 influence
- 1,750 km for 2,000+ influence
No nation should be larger than Ransium or Errinundera.

Can you change X in the coastline / make me on a new island?
Of course! As long as there is room, I am happy to do so.

What program do you make the map with?
Inkscape.

_______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________

I reserve the right to refuse or change any request you make, but it is very unlikely I will need to do so.
If you leave Forest or CTE for longer than 6 months, I will remove you from the map. If you come back afterwards, please tell me if you wish to return to the map. You will still have to meet the other requirements (50 SPDR).

I've been derogatorily called queer in the past by an older woman, although granted she had a bad case of dementia. But it's clear her filter was gone and the slur came from a time when LGBT+ people were seen in a much worse light. It also doesn't sit well with me that the term is synonymous with "weird." If we're talking about the larger goal of normalizing LGBT+ culture, I would personally use a different term.

I agree with you. My first remembered exposure to the word "queer" was in Lord of the Rings, where J.R.R. Tolkien uses it in the old sense of "odd" or "unsettling" or "weird," and for a couple of years I thought of the word in that sense only, until I became aware at some point that it also referred to non-straight people, and not often in a good sense. I've never thought of myself as "queer," but if the word were rehabilitated, so to speak, it might be fine. It's just not how I personally think of myself.

It's fine to join the WA. Folks do so love to act like it ruins their nations by manhandling their stats. In the end, the changes are barely noticeable. And the benefits it brings to both the player and the region are substantial.

I hear you.
I'm an asexual straight male - meaning I'm not gay. Sex isn't a biggie in my life. Sensuality is. I love women from afar, in my idealised version of women and womanhood in my own little world. (Whatever androgyny I have, and I do feel it, I keep it to myself. Let me just tell you that I went to a bookstore once, I was about 12, 13 y. o., and the shop attendant asked me Can I help you, miss?. How can one forget something like that??)
I see a gorgeous, hot woman? Great. I look at her and envy her for her beauty and sensuality, but I have absolutely no desire to have sex with her.
It's a bit like going to an art museum. I don't need to own the painting to admire it.

one CAN be decisively impartial. i recall someone told to "get off the fence", responding they liked the fence how it felt.

what i see as being a problem is people who feel it is somehow any of their concern what someone else does or does not feel sexually attracted to.

I totally get that. I think I have aspects of that myself, though equally I also consider my partners satisfaction to be important, which can be a tricky balancing act. If it were down to just me I could quite happily never have sex, but I am capable of enjoying it so will engage in it for the pleasure of someone I care about.
