Human civilization might have evolved past the need to hunt for food, but it's still ingrained in us that physical prowess is good, and sports are a good (non-lethal, for the most part) way of displaying and comparing that. Plus, it's a social activity both as participants and spectators, and humans are a social animal.

Pallay wrote:Question of the Day: Why do you think sports are common across almost all cultures present and past?

Well when civilization first arose, people had time to do something other than hunt because of the rise of agriculture. Therefore, people started doing other things like inventing stuff, and building structures. I think sports might have been a part of this.

People get bored. People are social. When you put these two together, people do stuff together. People are also competitive. Ergo, sports are inevitable.

Humans were hunter-gatherers once upon a time, I think sports became common because it allowed us to train our skills to survive in the wild.

Because who doesnt like stick-ball

Because people like to come up with lots of ways to spend time including running and jumping about, being on a horse that's running and jumping about, hitting a ball or shuttlecock with an oval on a stick, etc

Indeed we do! First you gotta apply for citizenship on our offsite forums. And although joining the discord isn’t required to become a citizen, it is where most of the discussion in CSS happens. So it is strongly recommended you do.

Also fair warning, the rp is at times absolutely bonkers.
