Population Tracker update time! Yeah, it's been 6 days, not 7, because I wanted to make May Day special, but I still have a special announcement to make anyway!
We reached the 500-Nation milestone again! WOOHOO!! Cue the Crab Rave, or if you feel old fashioned, cue the Internationale but in latin! More precisely, the count is now at 506 Nations. We're relevant again!
And for the WA nations, we got up from 231 to 239! Another celebration is due, but this time I'm going to talk about the shoebill.
The shoebill is a bird native from the Banks of the White Nile and its marshes, and is a mostly solitary animal, only getting together for periodic cuddles and making baby eggs. Having no vocal chords, shoebills communicate by smacking their massive bill er... parts together. It makes for a weird boink boink boink sound, I don't know how to describe it. They mostly eat fish, and fish those fish out then eat them with the help of said massive bill: they stab with its hook and then decapitate with the edge. Said bill can also probably sever a human arm, as some shoebills desperate enough have been seen eating baby and juvenile crocodiles. They're patient animals, they're elegant, and they're also polite dinosaurs (I mean, all birds are dinosaurs but this one definitely is more dinosaur than bird).
Why are they polite? In order for one to acknowledge and interact with you, you must bow to them. Like a gentleman. Or a subordinate to the Persian Shahanshah (unlike the Shahanshah, though the shoebill will bow back). Anyway, these birds have quite the courtly etiquette despite their wild origins. When a shoebill appreciates a human a lot, the shoebill will even bow to the human first.
Anyway that's the shoebill thing. They're cool. It's not even part of my MoR job to talk about shoebills and I'm not even a zoologist. Or a paleontologist.

Even tho I'm Stalinist, my opinion towards Hoxha is negative for couple of reasons:
1. Hoxha's Albania was a country stuck in the past - he rejected any sort of modernisation branding it as revisionism.
2. It's no secret that a lot of socialist countries used nationalism for their agenda - China, Vietnam, Yugoslavia, even USSR. But Hoxhaist Albania, from what data I could gather, outdid nearly everyone on that matter.
3. Militarism that have gone too far. Hoxha's opinion on the matter was literally "Every man a soldier". Easy argument would be that Albania is still full of combat bunkers.
