lots to read there

It’s a hefty newsletter, that’s for sure. Even when there were more of us we were never chatty here, but it’s always fun to hear from people even if just to say hello.

they say they used AI to put it together, or do you think that’s a joke?

It’s Telgan so it was really AI. 🙂

Glad to see Autism Spectrum still going strong.

All the best to you.

This isn’t going as strong as we’d like, Ernest, but it will do for now. 🙂

The Largest Populations in Autism Spectrum

Orgullo Gay, 20.0 billion, top 6%

Getherness, 18.1 billion, top 7%

Strone Road, 17.7 billion, top 7%

Mighty Dundee, 13.4 billion, top 11%

Queer Nati0n, 234 million, bottom 16%

Size isn’t everything, which I often say to make myself feel better. (Ha ha you’re supposed to laugh.)

Happy Thursday.

how can nations that might want to find us, well, find us ?

A region I know that recruits has a big computer. Invitations go out to all and sundry. It’s quite a big region with lots of newbies, but few contribute or stay. There’s a big turnover and when there’s no recruitment the region shrinks in size. For Autism Spectrum, what’s the point? It’s a region for special people. If you know anyone who might want to join, tell them about us. That’s all I can think.

Mighty Dundee has our most cheerful citizens. I’ve never solved the riddle of how to make citizens cheerful. You let them eat lots of cake, is that it? 🙂

Thanks to the NationStates apocalypse we’ve had a few days off. Let’s hope everything is working smoothly again.

What are some good autism advocacy groups/ organisations?

Oh and where do you guys find yourself on the spectrum?

You’ve survived, good to know!

National Autistic Society

For autistic adults and children, and their families.

Social media and forums

There are many people with experience of autism offering support and sharing their stories on forums and social media.

You do not have to talk to others in online groups, but it can be helpful to look at what they're saying.

A good place to start is the groups run by autism charities. But bear in mind the NHS does not monitor these sites.

Important
Comments on social media and forums are often based on personal experience and should not be taken as advice that would help you or your child.

Thanks. Do you maybe also know of any groups that do political organizing?

From what I can see, this is the only autism focused region on NS that has some activity.

Hey Hinata Tachibana here. 👋
Decided on moving a puppet nation in, if that's okay.

Thanks ❤️‍🔥

The game still hasn’t settled down yet since the apocalypse, but we’re getting there.

How do you feel about how autism is being represented in media and can you name some good or bad examples?

My friend Tom says the best representation is The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time by Mark Haddon. The main character Christopher Boone is spot-on, says Tom.

Often discussed is the film Rain Man. Some will say it is the best ever, others say it is dated, a stereotype that puts unrealistic pressure on people with autism to be highly intelligent in maths (for instance).

What do you think?

Personally, i didnt think of The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time as good autism representation, it is *sometimes* accurate but i hear that the author did no research on autism beforehand and Christopher also plays into the stereotype of being good at maths- he does quadratic equations to calm down, etc.

I think there is good autism representation in Dialtown(a visual novel dating sim where people have objects for heads). One of the characters has autism and i find her relatable. The creator of dialtown also knows a TV show who he says has good representation, but the name is escaping me right now :p
