Mastropa wrote:Whether or not they'll accept RP on the RMB, I mean. I can't say that it'll be forbidden or not because the Council hasn't actually made a ruling on it yet. Council rulings change depending on who is actually on the Council, and no one has tried to RP on the RMB for years (whereas the Council goes up for election every six months). It's frowned upon, but whether or not you'll get booted over it is up to them, so ask them first.

Again, I highly recommend becoming a citizen and using the forum instead. That's what it's there for.

Why is it frowned upon?

Post self-deleted by Banthros.

A few reasons. One, as I've said many times, that's what the forum is for--it's better organized, you can find old posts more easily, it's where we store the map, and it's easier to maintain good quality control. Another reason is that once upon a time we had enough people in this region that we would have casual conversations on the RMB and didn't want any RP posts to interrupt the flow of conversation, nor did we want conversations to interrupt RP. While that second reason isn't as important anymore, the first reason still stands.

Turning the question around, why are at least some of you new arrivals so resistant to RPing on the forums with the rest of the region?

Well I can't speak for anyone else but I've always been annoyed by off-site forums. Too much work.

This region has used its forum for RP for four years. If someone who just joined us finds that objectionable, there are innumerable other places that RP on the RMB that will be a better fit, and I encourage anyone who wants to RP in that way to find those regions. In the meantime, this region is not going to reinvent itself for newcomers who are unwilling to put forward the very basic effort to apply for citizenship (which would, at the very least, provide those newcomers a voice in regional decision-making... including determining if we want to start RPing on the RMB).

As a long-standing leader and long-term roleplayer of this region, I must concur with this message. We have a way of doing things and if it doesn't suit your fancy, don't complain about it if you're not willing to make your opinion count by becoming a citizen via the off-site forum.

Any further questions regarding rmb roleplay or the attitude of Mastropa may be directed to my telegram inbox or my inbox on the offsite forum.

Thank you.

Our citizens put effort into the world we build together. We expect all new citizens to do the same, and we will put genuine effort in our responses. If you want an example of SU RP, then (http://w11.zetaboards.com/Supreme_Union/topic/30198714/1/) is a great example of high quality SU RP, and (http://w11.zetaboards.com/Supreme_Union/topic/30050588/1/) is an example of typical SU RP. Even if you're bad at RP but make an earnest effort to make your little corner of our world, then you can become a citizen and we will help you however we can. If you want to be a part of this community and post on the RMB, send a telegram to Cielo solterra and devinaria and make an application on our forum and we will discuss it. If not, then as per Mastropa, we hope you have luck finding a region more suited to your RP style.

Forum posts wouldn't increase any if the people who came here refuse to register for citizenship, either. Please remember, I put up plenty of welcome posts and encouraged everyone to join in the regional RP. We are more than happy to welcome new faces, and we don't mind if you want to just chat on the RMB rather than joining in anywhere else; we've got plenty of people here who do just that. But we RP on the forum. We have always done that, and the only way we'll stop is if a majority of our citizens choose to do so. We do not alter our entire identity at the behest of non-citizens, especially when it's very, very, very easy to become a citizen (seriously, the application process is a single form and a bit of a wait as the Council looks it over, that's it). I'm being as polite as I can here, but the fact is that you came to a region that has a link to its forum in the WFE for everyone to see. There are plenty of regions that actually use the RMB for RP, so there's no shortage of options if that's really what you wanted. Instead you came here and expected us to change everything for you.

Quoted so that you both can see the notification, since unless you're obsessing over the region you just left you're not going to see this any other way.

Burgjano

I will now consider this matter closed. If anyone has any more complaints, or wants to discuss it further, then feel free to telegram each other or complain to me. I see no sense in continuing this discussion.

Do either of you happen to be Steve Bannon? No one is asking you to change your culture. They just wanted a little informal freestyle RP on the RMB. No one was asking to integrate the RMB posts with the forum posts.

Allowing two independent RPs would in no way harm your "culture" or decrease the quality of the off-site posts. It would have just made the region more lively. Some of them would have probably switched to the forum over time.

Get over yourselves.

- A dying organization

Post by Grackle rock suppressed by The Supreme Union.

This region was founded as a merger of the Supreme Federated States and the Grand Union. I was a member of both.

I may have missed the last few years of growth here, but I can say that the Council's response to the new arrivals was 100% out of line with the founding principles of this region.

New voices and opinions are perfect opportunity for growth. I'm disappointed in how the Council has suppressed honest, constructive criticism.

Post by Burgjano suppressed by The Supreme Union.

The 'criticism' so far includes gems like calling us alt-right radicals, and telling us our region will die. The only actual criticism to be found is Mdogao suggesting that having 2 independent communities running parallel wouldn't be a problem, which is something I disagree with, but have noted. I'll provide it below, if you're curious.

I must concur. Furthermore Grackle rock has never been a very present or active citizen and I find his/her/their input to be almost as mute as that of the newcomers who could have made their voices heard by following the established processes without marring our rmb with foolhardy messages. Nevertheless, the region will remain unchanged for better or worse unless or until the Council changes, and so far the Council has received no requests from it's active citizens to make any of the changes the newcomers have informally proposed.

Call a spade a spade. You guys made a knee-jerk reaction because your 'identity' was being threatened. Your most potent response was "this is how we've always done things." This is classic gatekeeping. If you'd been a little more flexible, you could have doubled the size of the region.

Burgjano wrote:

Then you should have made a thoughtful response, instead of suppressing a valid comment.

First of all, I think you mean "concur."

Second, this is exactly the kind of shallow snobbishness that I am criticizing. Common sense dictates that it doesn't matter how long you've been around, a good idea is a good idea.

Grackle rock wrote:Then you should have made a thoughtful response, instead of suppressing a valid comment.

Apparently thoughtful responses only garner abuse, as the numerous examples of people quoting me for the sole purpose of saying, "You're an idiot, I'm leaving," seem to indicate. Furthermore, we were all asked to keep this to TGs. The suppression is going on because no one is listening to that specific instruction--and you will note that the first suppressed post in this chain is actually one of mine.
