Chief Executive Kieran Lehman steps up the podium. Before him are the other 919 members of parliament, and the eyes of a nation watching from their screens.

Representatives, Senators, and fellow Wizlandians.

It is with a heavy heart that I stand on this podium and speak to you today. Four days ago, the Oruzian government sent two tank divisions and two infantry armies into Sulasburg. A short time later, the nations of Lochak and NewKazakhBy followed suit by launching missiles at Sulasburg without just cause.

Dishonest men will sell you two lies. The first is that Sulasburg was the aggressor for war. But this is straightforward to disprove. To wit, let us recall the events prior to the Sula Declaration of War.

Oruzia, under pretence of protecting world trade, unilaterally seized the Suez.

Oruzia, under the pretence of protecting its people, mobilised its military to threaten the territorial integrity of Sulasburg.

Oruzia, through a proxy border militia, seized the Sula town of Sc’l’euy.

Prime Minister Hamrovic’s aggression has been constant, relentless, unyielding. He has repeatedly ignored our protests for peace, and instead at every opportunity has turned towards war.

Therefore, I stand here and call on Parliament to pass this resolution, to remove all constitutional budgetary restraints for a period of four years, and to declare a state of war on Oruzia, Lochak, and NewKazakhBy.

Some of my fellow colleagues will tell you that war is not necessary, that Sulasburg’s territorial integrity is not a vital Wizlandian interest. That the mutual defence pact of the Entente can be tossed in the shredder with no consequence to our peace and security.

This is the second lie, and it is bigger and more insidious than the first.

All across the world, nations consumed with ambition go to war under the flimsiest pre-texts in order to expand their territory. In Europe, Sjevre and Campalia send armies into Norway and Russia with the intentions of annexation. In America, Africa and Antartica, Usoniy moves troops with his sights on an Empire that will span half the world. In Asia, Ajke of Lochak proclaims the death of capitalism and liberal democracy while mobilising men and weapons into Europe.

Wizlandia is not an empire. Our navy and air force are strong, but we are no superpower. We are dependent on our alliances for mutual security, on the principle that together, united, we can thwart any nation that wishes us harm. But should Wizlandia turn its back on its allies, our allies will turn their back on us, and the day an invading army comes to our shores, will be a dark day indeed. A day darker then the dictatorship of the ‘50s, a day darker than night itself.

My fellow patriots, I will not lie to you. We have before us an ordeal of the most grievous kind. We have before us many many long months of struggle and of suffering. But I believe this one eternal truth, that with faith and honour, the light of the heavens shall shine on this nation, and together we will come out of this war victorious.

Let us therefore brace ourselves to our duties, and so bear ourselves that, if the Federal Republic lasts for a thousand years, men will still say, ‘This was their finest hour.’
