Getting Started Guide [phased out, see discord]
IntroductionHello and welcome to the Universal Order of Nations! Within this you will learn the basics of how this region works, how to participate and how to become a valued member in this community. There are various rules and guidelines you will have to familiarise yourself with before we begin.
The main resource is the Code of Conduct, outlining what is required of you if you wish to participate. Please read this carefully. Rules to keep the peace are common sense, but you must understand the style of roleplay and basic formatting that is used to convey both in-character and out-of-character conversations. You should also read the regional constitution, to understand the role of the regional government and some further requirements.
Role-playing
The region is based heavily on roleplaying, each nation can grow and expand, within reason. All interaction between nations is determined in a certain way, and is only acknowledged if the regional government say so. This is usually the case, but this is to make sure everyone is sensible with your decisions. If you declare you have a death star for example, other members can dispute it, claiming you do not have the resources, time or skill to have done so. This ensures all decisions are made within reason and allows for more in-depth gameplay.
Roleplaying can be done in various ways:
The Regional Message Board. All members can post news about their nation, allowing others in the region to be informed of major news and allowing them to comment and reply. This is also used out-of-character if the symbols (( and )) are used.
Factbooks. These allow you to document various parts of your nation that do not require announcing to the rest of the community. For any military action, you are required to document your forces in a factbook page, allowing the regional government to approve your arsenal and making sure your opponent knows how to respond to certain attacks.
One-to-one communication. If you require somewhere private to discuss diplomacy or war, you are allowed to talk privately in the bar or through telegrams with other nations. If both agree on the outcome you announce from those discussions, it counts as happening in roleplay.
The Universal Order. In what is a UN like organization, nations of the region come together to discuss issues of the world and participate in a variety of RPs, such as international legislation, treaties, international peacekeeping, special forces, joint science, and much more. RP Membership is optional to all nations. To join ask the lead executive of UON
Factions. Groups of like-minded nations are invited to work together and form factions, only regional request is to not take it too seriously
Before You Begin
Before anything else can happen, you must have completed the Membership Application (this is to document your nation name and equate it to an email address), secondly you MUST introduce yourself on the Regional Message Board. After this any map request you make can be approved, To begin, follow the links at the bottom of the page to apply to the region. We'll get back to you with a telegram as soon as possible.
Once you have been accepted, and have introduced yourself you can create a map request, one of the moderators can then look it over, ask any followup questions and hopefully approve it. Within a few weeks your territory will be up and visible on the official regional map.
Once your territory has been approved, you are considered part of the Roleplay! You will then be able to participate in role-playing with other nations.
Now, depending on what you wish your nation to be or do, your ideas may have to be run by a regional officer for approval. This could potentially be for outer space civilizations as there is already a pre-defined history documenting space travel in this region. If this is the case, simply send a telegram to one of the moderators and we can sort it out for you.
Lastly, No new nation will be able to start with a massive navy or army, we use Defense Score to calculate military, and have our own algorithm to determine what can be built.

Fleet Power System is that algorithm. If you plan to be in the region long term or engage in war, you are required to keep a copy of this google sheet.Step 2: Make a Copy; Press File on the top toolbar, and scroll to Make a Copy
Step 3: Find your DF, the link to your DF can be found inside the sheet, but also here
Your DF determines your Fleetpower, for Players under 5,000 DF, you get 5,000 Fleetpower automatically
It is generally advised you find your score and place it in the "Your Fleet Power" Column
Step 4: Choose a Focus; a focus allows you to build a select type of ship at a reduced cost, i.e if I wanted to focus on Carriers, I could change the cost from 100 to 95, saving me 5 points for every carrier I make or have.
However you need to make sure you saved yourself a copy that you can edit, so you can edit the value of the ship type to your focus reduced cost value.
Step 5: Using the Calculator and Building your Fleet; with your focus set you can start building your fleet, the sheet does all the math for you, it is important to note the top list of Ship types sets the cost, while the 2 list of ship types is the calculator
you only need edit the middle row, type how many ships you want of that type, and the value to the right will change to reflect that input.
At the bottom of the calculator, your total fleet power for each type will be calculated, if you entered your Max Fleetpower from earlier, you'll be able to tell if you are over or under your limit.
Step 6: Vibe, if you ever have questions or issues contact a mod or admin via the Discord. If we ever see a problem with it, we'll contact you and ask for edit permissions; so we can point out what is wrong and help you get everything in order. From time to time, regional audits are called to double-check to see if the region is complying. Again if you are ever going to be in a moderated conflict, having this sheet filled out will save your life, it helps to have your ducks in a row.
