The Legislative Crisis

The legislative crisis developed when the representatives of special interest groups began disguising their desires for advantages as being truly needed items within voluminous bills that were too lengthy to be properly evaluated before being passed into law. Pork-barrel projects from the greedy special interests crowded necessary projects out of the budget. The citizens of RBBF became restive over the ineffectual legislative process.

At the height of the crisis, an elder statesman remembered a section from the ancient constitution of the legendary Confederate States of America: “Every law, or resolution having the force of law, shall relate to but one subject, and that shall be expressed in the title.”

This ancient idea was seized upon as the solution to the special interest problem. Special interest items became more difficult to enact, the volume of legislation was reduced, but the quality of the laws that were ultimately passed greatly improved. The citizens were placated, and the crisis was averted.
