Orange = serious threats against the USSR and its allies, imminent attacks to be expected - Increase in force readiness above that required for normal readiness, armed forces ready to be deployed at any moment

Red = attack on the USSR or one of its closest allies - Martial law can be declared, all available forces are immediately deployed
