History of Y’Israel
HISTORY OF Y'ISRAEL - From Exile to CommuneI. THE ROMAN EXPULSION (70 - 135 CE)
In 70 CE the Second Temple fell. In 135 CE after Bar Kokhba, Rome issued the final edict: No Jew in Yehuda. Our ancestors were loaded onto Roman slave ships in Yaffo. The tribes were broken - Yehuda, Reuven, Shimon, Dan, Naftali, Gad, Asher, Yissachar, Zevulun, Binyamin, Menashe, Efraim, and Levi (the priests).
The fleet meant for Rome was lost in a storm off Crete. The captives mutinied, killed the crew, and drifted west for 19 days with only Torah scrolls and shofars.
On the 19th day they saw them: 13 uninhabited islands in a perfect circle, no humans, only lions and olive trees. The Leviim blew the shofar. We called it Aiyy HaShvatim - Islands of the Tribes. Year 1 in our calendar.
II. THE KINGDOM ERA (136 - 1848) - The Time of Serfs
To survive, the elders recreated Israel by tribe. Each tribe took one island:
Yehuda took the largest and declared himself Melech Y'Israel. Yerushalayim Federal was made neutral holy ground where Levi would judge. Binyamin, smallest and rockiest, became the King's guard.
It became a feudal kingdom. It lasted 1,700 years.
Structure:
King in Yehuda (always from Tribe Yehuda)
12 Dukes (Nesiim) - one per island
Serfs (Am HaAretz) - 90% of population. Tied to island, worked Menashe's forests, Yissachar's wheat, Asher's oil presses, Dan's fishing nets. Could not leave.
Leviim as priest-judges in Yerushalayim, blessing the King.
Life was cruel. Reuven's serfs died of thirst carrying water. Zevulun's port taxed 50%. Gad's ferrymen rowed by hand. Shimon's teachers taught only nobles to read. The tribes kept their identity, but forgot equality. The shofar was blown only for the King.
By the 1700s, population hit 200M but 180M were serfs. Famine in Yissachar 1791 killed 2M.
III. THE AWAKENING - 1800s
In 1812, a girl from Yissachar, Rivka Bat Yissachar, a grain counter in Sde Bar who could read, found a Roman book of philosophy in Kiryat Mada's archive. She and Shimon ben Levi, a shipbuilder from Dan who had visited socialist communes in Europe, started secret schools in ferry holds.
They taught: "The land gives, the man takes. Why?"
Strikes started:
- 1823: Dan fishing strike - serfs refused to fish
- 1837: Menashe lumber strike - forest burned by owners to punish
- 1844: Shimon chip - secret printing press in Kiryat Silicon printed first pamphlet
The King, Yehuda IX, answered with Binyamin's army. 4,000 killed in Metzad Binyamin massacre 1846.
IV. THE BOOK - 1848
In hiding in Ya'ar Menashe, Rivka and Shimon wrote the book that became our constitution in 6 months, on olive bark paper:
"HA'PATISH VE'HA'SHOFAR: TORAT HA'SHAVEH"
(The Hammer and the Shofar: Doctrine of Equality)
Authors: Rivka Bat Yissachar & Shimon ben Levi
Core teachings:
1. The Hammer Builds - All value comes from labor. The owner builds nothing.
2. The Shofar Remembers - We remember we were slaves in Egypt and serfs here. Never again.
3. Shaveh Ba'Am - Equal in People. No tribe higher. Yehuda is not king, he is brother.
4. Or La'Amim - Light to Nations. Welfare is patriotic duty, not charity.
5. People's Shekel - Goods to Yerushalayim, redistributed by need, not by birth.
6. 100% Electric Future - No more rowing, no more animal suffering.
The book was copied by hand by 10,000 students and hidden in olive oil jars from Asher. Every serf learned to read it by candlelight.
V. THE GREAT REVOLUTION - 1 MAY 1849 - YOM HAMAHAPECHA HAGADOL
On 1 May 1849, International Workers Day, at dawn, Levi in Yerushalayim refused to bless the King and blew the shofar in a different pattern - the pattern of Bar Kokhba revolt.
It was the signal.
At once:
- Gad's ferrymen seized all ferries
- Dan's navy turned guns on King's castle in Ir Yehuda
- Yissachar's grain silos were opened to all
- Binyamin's young soldiers (many serf sons) joined serfs, not King
- Asher's oil workers poured oil on roads to stop King's cavalry
The Kingdom fell in 9 days. King Yehuda IX fled to a small boat and was exiled to a single rock - Binyamin's island, now TINY, as his prison, later made defense island. No one killed him - the Book forbids revenge.
On 9 May 1849 on Har HaBayit, Rivka read the last page:
"We were expelled by Romans, we built a kingdom of serfs. Today we overthrow the kingdom. From today, every island is equal. Every town elects its Mayor. Every island its Premier. Every island its Shaveh. And Yerushalayim will redistribute."
The first People's Shekel was minted: Lion holding hammer + olive branch.
VI. THE COMMUNIST UTOPIA - 1850 to TODAY
1850-1880: Land collectivized, serfdom abolished, schools built in every town (Kfar HaMorim). Shimon's Kiryat Silicon built first electric ferry 1882.
1901: First undersea tunnel Yehuda-Yerushalayim dug by hand, 25km, finished 1911 with electric rail.
1923: Reuven's desalination - no more thirst.
1945: Naftali's Tahanat Or nuclear plant - 100% electric by 1960. Gasoline banned.
1960: People's Shekel becomes non-profit accounting only.
Today: 500M, 13 islands, no overlap, different sizes MEGA to TINY, rivers named Nahar [Tribe], mountains Har [Tribe]. Only trades with socialist/communist nations. Welfare = patriotic duty.
We keep Jewish holidays but repurposed: Pesach is liberation from capitalism, not Egypt. Revolution Day is our main holiday, bigger than Rosh Hashanah.
The Romans expelled us from one land. We found 13. We made a kingdom. Then we made it equal.
Motto remains: The hammer builds, the shofar remembers.
