DPL wins Leithanian general election!
By Walther Frosch | Published: 21st September 2036

Following the final counts on monday morning, the DPL has been confirmed to have won the general election. While DPL's top prime minister canidate Simon Schildgen has already celebrated early results in the night from sunday to monday. Schildgen has already hinted to start talks to form a new government as soon as possible.

The DPL was already ahead of SDP in the last polls released on saturday and with a bigger distance than expected the DPL managed to win. Just like the polls indicated the SDP failed to get close to the DPL.

Compared to the 2032 general election, the DPL lost 4% where as the SDP managed to increase it's result by 5%. Many of the new SDP votes came from the KVP which split apart 2 years ago, with the resulting splinter party DSVP managing to get 5% in their first election. As a result the KVP only managed to get 10%, while not much less than their previous 13%, many had expected the KVP to play a bigger role in this election. Just like 4 years ago the UNPL managed to barely get 5% and stays in the parliament while the DWL drops out, only managing to get 2%. Definitely one of the biggest winners this year is the LPL who went from 10% 4 years ago to now 14%. Especially a lot of people previously in the non-voter category voted for them.

Statement by Prime Minister Helmut Schulz:
"We're very happy. We thank the nation for trusting us to continue the course we've begun laying 8 years ago and we want to improve and progress further in the best way for Leithanien. I am sure Simon Schildgen will do a great job."

What now?
The DPL has many options to form a government, they could continue to work with the SDP or start a coalition wit the LPL. Talks are to begin this week.
