Whenever a nation ceases, a region falls, or a soul simply decides it has had enough of the mortal (or immortal) coil, a file is opened below. Should you wish to have someone added, memorialized, or corrected, leave word on the regional message board — a completed file, or merely a name and the bones of a story, and the Keeper will see it properly drawered.

▌ The Regional Wing (R-series) — for entire regions that have fallen, been refounded elsewhere, absorbed, or otherwise ceased to hold together. Regional deaths are rarer and grander, and are catalogued with appropriate ceremony.

▌ The National Wing (N-series) — for individual nations who have ceased to exist, gone quiet past all recall, or otherwise wandered off this mortal server. This wing will, in time, become considerably larger than the other, and that is by design — drawers are cheap, dignity is not.

As either wing fills past a comfortable browsing length, a new Volume will be opened (Ledger II, Ledger III, and so on) and linked here, so the dead are never asked to share a page beyond what good taste allows.

🪦 Crypt No. — assigned in order of arrival, never reused, never reassigned even if a resident later returns to the world of the living.

🕰 Interred — the date the file was opened, not the date of death. The Mausoleum does not pretend to know the hour a nation's heart stopped; bodies have a way of lying about for a while before someone thinks to bury them. What we can record honestly is when they came into our care.

🕯 Cause of Passing — drawn from the standard classifications below.

📜 Epitaph — a single line, in whatever spirit the departed deserves.

🥂 Officiant — whoever conducted the service, wrote the file, or simply stood vigil.

🗒 Notes — anything else worth remembering: last words, effects left behind, who came to visit.

• Cessation — natural expiration through long silence (what the living call CTE).

• Dissolution — a founder's hand released what it once held together.

• Absorption — swallowed whole by something larger, sometimes willingly.

• Voluntary Retirement — chose to stop, with dignity intact.

• Other — for the ends that fit no tidy box: exile, sabotage, catastrophe, or something stranger. Name the circumstance plainly in the Notes. There are always a few.
  

Should a resident of the National Wing later return to the world of the living (what the Ledger calls an Exhumation), their file is not deleted — it is marked accordingly and moved to the Directory of Miraculous Recoveries at the end of this dispatch, proof that our doors do, occasionally, swing both ways.
