Protests and Riots Erupt in Dobrovnik
What began as a night of mounting tension in the city of Koroskya, Dobrovnik concluded with city streets returning to a fragile calm this morning after a confrontation near the local Sartorian Consulate that required Makuvan Guard intervention. The unrest, centered in neighborhoods home to a large Bercollese community, saw dozens detained and injured.
Local authorities report that the disturbance erupted late yesterday evening when a crowd of primarily Bercollese ethnic groups gathered close to the consulate to protest developments in Sartoria concerning the recent secession of the region. The demonstration grew in size and intensity; by nightfall small groups broke away, clashing with police and damaging property in the consular precinct. Mayor Igor Krêtisk said the Makuvan Guard was deployed to restore order after local police requested support. Government officials confirmed that between 40 and 60 people were detained during the operation.
President Sofi Chekhov’s administration reiterated Makuva’s policy of non-intervention in foreign disputes while addressing the domestic fallout. A presidential spokesperson said: “Makuva remains committed to peaceful neutrality. Our actions last night were purely to preserve public order and protect the rights and safety of all residents and diplomatic missions within our borders.” The statement acknowledged the deep emotional ties many Koroskya residents maintain with family and friends in Bercolle and expressed sympathy for their concerns.
Community leaders from the Bercollese quarter described the unrest as an outpouring of anguish and solidarity, rather than an organized assault on public order. Religious institutions and neighbourhood associations in Dobrovnik announced plans for joint vigils and community dialogues intended to soothe tensions and offer support to those affected by last night’s events.
Consular sources report the Sartorian mission remains temporarily closed while Makuvan authorities assess damage to the surrounding area and secure the consular precinct. Diplomatic channels between Koroskya municipal authorities and the consulate are said to be open to coordinate security and ensure the mission’s staff safety.
