Commonwealth Organisation

The Intergalactic Nexus Station commonly simply called The Nexus or Central Station, is a huge station built in what was once the centre of the Galactic Commonwealth. Originally the grand design of Architect Baifjae Usaq the Federal Government of Laresh approved the construction of the Nexus above the ice planet of Eradis. The Nexus was designed to be a self-sufficient environment, with anything needed to be pulled from various parts of the Usshiqi System that it currently resides in. The Nexus itself is home to various races from across the known galaxy, and it houses its own highly diverse security forces and navy.

The Nexus was heavily damaged by the attacks on the outbreak of the Dissolution War and its people suffered greatly during the downing of the Communication and Tachyon Buoys outage. Due to the damage of the Nexus, it was left alone mostly during the dissolution war, allowing for uninterrupted reconstruction by the many guilds, organisations and citizens that still called the station home. Today, the newly rebuilt nexus once again operates as the Headquarters of the many guilds that keep the galaxy running, and further operates as an effective embassy between all the states of the galaxy so that dialogue can resume once again across the devastated cosmos.

I. History of the Nexus

The Nexus was constructed amidst the Early Commonwealth Period. As the Commonwealth grew in size and scope, the Lareshi Congress knew that there were misgivings amongst the younger races of the galaxy as it continued to be based on the Lareshi homeworld. A much larger building was needed for the plans that Laresh had outlined, and for their ideas to be realised they needed something bigger, something grandiose. An expression of what co-operation can do and create for the galaxy. To design a new building and concept for what should house the Galactic Government, the Lareshi Federal Republic held a competition.

From here, the young Lareshi architect known as Baifjae Usaq entered the picture. An up and comer in the architectural world, he designed many concepts for constructions in space before, but nothing on this scale. In his vision, he saw a grand station, at the heart of the galaxy, the likes of which had never been seen before. The Commonwealth Commission for the new Galactic Capital voted for Usaq’s design.

The project began in earnest in 2298, with resources being pulled from across the galaxy to build the station. The gathering and moving of material proved to be cumbersome and extremely taxing but construction was steady as long as they had material. With a combined effort from all the Commonwealth states at the time providing material, engineers, construction workers and ships to aid in construction. The moving of materials however instead of the individual assembly and movement of parts of the station severely hampered construction time.

The Commonwealth Parliament

Galactic Council Discussing the Huon Traverse Blitz

By the year 2493 construction was complete, and basic operations on the station were up and running up until the official inauguration of the Commonwealth Government of 2500. The Nexus quickly came to house the most important people of the galaxy, the most important corporations, NGO’s, Guilds and Contractors made their way to the Nexus for easy access to the political elite of the Galactic Commonwealth. Many galactic affairs as a result were somewhat insulated inside some of the bubbles on the Nexus. The Parliament grew steadily as galactic colonisation grew and populations increased.

The Nexus continued to grow as a hub of galactic activity for the next several thousand years, its parliament growing to a massive 2000 member body as the Commonwealth grew larger and expanded further. Many voices became drowned out in the Parliament, and much more emphasis grew on the Galactic Council, a body composed of 3 members per state to properly chart a course for the Commonwealth, and then the Commission, an even smaller body to propose and implement on the agenda set by the council. Much of the assembly became relegated to smaller matters and approving or rejecting the proposals made by the commission.

The Commonwealth continued to expand, and began incorporating the region of space known as the Morian Traverse in the 3000s, adding even more diversity to the governance of the galaxy. Everything from the Dae to the Humans joined the ranks of the Commonwealth en masse and quickly integrated themselves into the Commonwealth as member states. From Empires to Democracies, governance types expanded massively and were integrated into the Commonwealth. This massive expansion led to yet another expansion of the number of seats in the parliament and council, which needed its own section of the nexus by this point in time. A 4000 seat chamber was built, so that more representation could be allowed, but by the 6000s some people in the parliament still felt underrepresented but most still understood that the Galactic Council acted in this sense as an effective counterweight. However storms were growing in the Commonwealth, as discontent was on the rise in parts of the galaxy.

By the 6400s, an opportunist saw some of this discontent rise and decided to strike against the Galactic Commonwealth, by unleashing an attack on the Huon Traverse. The Huon Traverse was a sparsely populated area on the fringe of Commonwealth space where multiple minor races had colonies. More often than not multiple races had colonies within the same star system. The primary power of the area was a transhuman-power called the Yazata that had a reputation for both aggression and infighting.
In 6421 the Huon Traverse was attacked by the Dar-Hesh, an imperialist younger race on the Commonwealth fringe that had only recently been inducted into the Commonwealth. The Sentinel Order was slow to respond to the conflict and the Dar-Hesh were rapidly advancing through the Huon Traverse despite fierce resistance. While the Commonwealth was deliberating on who would be the new High Commissioner, the situation devolved into a political disaster for the Commonwealth. The Commonwealth Parliament was stuck in a gridlock unable to appoint a new High Commissioner and the Sentinel Order was still mustering forces while the Yazata conducted desperate evacuation of civilians and delaying actions against the Dar-Hesh. By the time Commonwealth forces arrived the Dar-Hesh had secured the Huon Traverse, while wisely staying away from the crucial Kimothan hyperlane, and its former population had been rendered spacebore on the Yazata Exodus Fleet.

Feeling outraged and betrayed, the Yazata and its fellow exiles of Huon formally withdrew from the Commonwealth. Yazatan Ambassador Tam Dyrohl conducted a terror bombing on the Assembly hall of Nexus Station by blowing himself up, killing and injuring multiple delegates and ambassadors. The confederation’s leadership at the time refrained from sanctioning any retaliation against the Yazata. The Dar-Hesh’s conquest of the Huon Traverse was officially contested and declared as illegal but no further military action was taken. The political gridlock that had delayed any proper Commonwealth action became a huge case of embarrassment and the Sentinel Order felt itself being made a mockery of.

This was the beginning of a long crisis period for the Commonwealth where it drifted from crisis to crisis for over two centuries as the fundamental principles and structures of the galactic state began to collapse.

At this critical junction in the Commonwealth's history, two major nations of the Commonwealth smelt blood in the water. The United Roman Reich and the Empire of Aruthia had long been established members of the Commonwealth and a disruptive influence on intergalactic affairs. With several hotspots along their borders and their allies' borders, the Commonwealth felt it needed to respond. Decades of rampant militarisation and skirmishes had prompted the Commonwealth to deploy peacekeeping forces along the frontier between the two states. The Commonwealth held a vote, excluding the Romans and Aruthians, to order the Sentinel Order to send a fleet into the area. The Romans and Aruthians were outraged, who saw Commonwealth intervention in this area, in their own territory without their consent, as a military overreach. The Nexus itself was host to scuffles between pro and anti sovereignist factions in the midst of the crisis.

As the fleets arrived, the Romans and Aruthians were both waiting for an election inside the Commonwealth for a new commission, an event that nobody anticipated occurred. In the year of 6692 a Sentinel Order ship, unknowingly hijacked, entered Nexus Space. It had all the proper authorization codes, and proceeded to the Nexus for a scheduled decommissioning. For hours it travelled through Lareshi Core space until it reached its destination, and then fired its main cannon at the Lareshian congress while it was mid session on a vote for a New Commission. The blast killed tens of thousands, including the parliament, and Azjae Chun, the Lareshian who was set to be the new Commissioner. The Nexus was in utter chaos. When security services reached the Secondary Commissioner, Giro Hoy, his security team had been slaughtered at the Loren Hotel on the Nexus. To this day it is unknown who killed him or orchestrated the attacks.. The Empire of Aruthia, and the United Roman Reich point the blame squarely at each other. Some denizens of the Federal Lareshain Republic blamed the Uvranian Separatists, who were becoming more active in recent years and whose planet the ship was stationed near. Some conspiracy theorists blame the Galactic Intelligence Bureau for orchestrating the attack in order to get Giro Hoy into power, and that the rival Federal Security Services had him assassinated to avoid their control by the GIB. Everything was blamed, from Rogue AI’s, the Nexus Station’s police forces, brain worms, Corporations who had it out for the Presider or Secondary Presider, but most importantly the rival factions all blamed each other, and this crept deep into the Admirals of the Commonwealth, many of whom declared themselves the new legitimate government in the emergency crisis. Yet this attack was nothing compared to the disabling of the Comm Buoys, a cyber attack at the same time on the Nexus which led to a galactic wide blackout.

The Romans and the Aruthians, who thought their access had been cut off in preparation for an invasion, wasted no time however. They immediately sent their fleets and armies into the frontier worlds between them, attacking the peacekeeping forces that had kept them at bay for so long, before proceeding to attack each other, all the while various parts of the galaxy with any semblance of government picked sides. An Emergency Admiralty Government was established on the Nexus to try and keep order but ultimately fell to infighting and fell into the various cliques which began fighting over Commonwealth space like they were scraps of an Empire they were entitled to, and were even less willing to tolerate neutral parties than the Romans and the Aruthians. This period was known as the dissolution war.

While for 70 years the galaxy burned in a tide of blood and fire the organisations and people of the Nexus worked to rebuild their station, and worked towards trying to try and end the war or at least re-establish dialogue. In 6662, the Nexus played host to the Roman-Aruthian ceasefire, which put a road to the ending of the dissolution war through dialogue in place. The Nexus was agreed to be a neutral zone for all parties in space, where any nation could have an embassy and talk to each other through grounded and collective dialogue. Over the course of 10 years, many nations joined this initiative, and the Nexus has once again become a hub for many galactic affairs.

The Forum Parks, part of the Embassy District

While the parliament is no more, the embassies are busy and flourish with all sorts of activity. The Forum parks once again bustle with activity as the hope for a better tomorrow for all denizens in the galaxy slowly returns. The Romans and Empire, who bathed in the blood of one another for so long, now actively participate in dialogue with each others ambassadors, as well as the other ambassadors such as the Azhai, Thaull, Federal States of Laresh and even the Sydonian Estates now participate in the Nexus project. Time will only tell if the Nexus station can truly help end the last remnants of the Dissolution War, or if it will once again fall into chaos as new players make their moves on the galactic stage, hungry for their own power in the grand play that is the Novastralix galaxy.

II. Reconstruction and Current Affairs

The Reconstruction of the Nexus was a large operation after the original attack. The primary beginning of the reconstruction required a part deconstruction. The attack on the Nexus used special irradiated ammunition that left whole parts of the station uninhabitable and these parts needed to be disabled and removed from the Nexus without upsetting the rest of how the station operates. After Nexus Security Robots and Tekkinian Volunteers removed any organics from the rubble in a massive operation, this part of the station was disconnected, and towed away by the civilian Nexus Fleet. The guilds and corporations on the nexus all contributed to the reconstruction by financing the creation of ships, an increase in nexus security and the creation of manufactures that could create specialised parts for construction.

After the Collapse of the Admiralty government, some ships stayed with the Nexus as part of a reorganised NexSec, paid for by the organisations and residents of the Nexus station. A new flag was adopted for the station, a piece of human mythology, a phoenix. A bird known for rising from the ashes and being reborn, it seemed the perfect fit for the new station.

By 6750, much of the repairs of Nexus was completed, with both inside and outside aid from the Nexus. A mighty cheer went up at the announcement that once again the station would come to welcome all in the galaxy that wished to once again work towards peace. The many guilds such as the Spacing Guild, the Tachyon Guild, Trading Guild, Banking Guild and Techno Guild all supported the maintaining of current operations so long as peace was restored and actors on the Nexus acted in good faith with the institutions.

By 6772, the Nexus once again played host to the many nations of the galaxy, albeit in a different capacity than the Commonwealth. Each nation participating in the Nexus project gets their own embassy and staff. Inside each embassy there is allowed a guard contingent consisting of two squads consisting of no more than 13 organics or inorganics. These guard staff are for the defence of their own embassy alone. If an ambassador must leave the embassy and does not feel secure with Nexus Security, they can leave with two armed guards if they raise a grievance with NexSec. Any and all precautions further to this must be in the hands of NexSec who will take every step to protect each ambassador on the station. NexSec’s reputation is a reliable one, and is an extremely competent fighting force equipped for any situation that may occur.

There are no restrictions on where Ambassadors can hold meetings, and they do not have to hold these meetings in each other's embassies. The Nexus is a vast station, the biggest in the galaxy and has many locales that ambassadors can use to conduct their affairs. While official NexSec guidance is that ambassadors should discuss their affairs in each other's embassies, it is not uncommon to see ambassadors holding meetings with the guilds or even other ambassadors in the park, but these are political moves that are often designed to be seen. Should the ambassador wish to remain unseen, there are many locales on the Nexus that offer private locations to conduct business in less….savoury lights.

As for the guilds, they continue to support the Nexus as a means of hopeful restoration of peace and business in the galaxy. They continue to reap in contributions from member states of the Nexus project in order to once again return the great triumphs of the Commonwealth and their institutions, and remain mostly unaffected in their operations by the Last Emergency Commissioners dissolution speech, which they did not acknowledge at the time.

The Nexus also has taken upon itself a new role outside of its former role of galactic governance. After first contact is reported by any new nation or people, the Nexus sends its own delegation inviting these nations into the greater galactic community. This includes bringing these nations up to speed on galactic affairs, establishing their embassies and showing them the vast history of the nations that exist among the stars. To assist in this, the Nexus Techno Guild continues to manufacture Universal Translators, so that each person can speak to one another in their own voice. These come in many fashions such as handheld PDAs, computers in clothing or jewellery, or subdermal implants. Without fast and accurate translation, galactic trade and culture would not exist. To further this, most people on the Nexus will have to understand Universal Common, a language created by the Lareshians originally to help them communicate with their Gaim counterparts. All scripts on the station are in this language, and ambassadors should be trained in this language for ease of navigation and communication if needed.

III. Nexus Security and the Defence Fleet

Nexus Security Logo

At the beginning of the construction of the Nexus, the size and scope of the station was put under heavy scrutiny by the Federal States of Laresh. They knew that an independent security force would be needed to protect and keep order on the station with so many inhabitants. While most of the original force of Nexus Security was organic, as more and more people came to the Nexus a more permanent solution was required to keep control over so many inhabitants. Despite opposition from some parts of the station, the local governance of the station requested numerous more patrols from police forces, and the only physical way to accommodate that was the introduction of the Autonomous Crime Prevention Units (ACPU). By creating and handing out exclusive contracts, Nexus Security was able to create an effective drone army for the protection of the station. These drones could be purchased from all over the galaxy but the number one contractor was often Azha, which already relied on heavy mechanised armies for its own defence. A specialised software was created for these machines which was specially tailored for the Nexus, and uploaded to each unit. As a result, these drones are highly interactive and often are paired up with organic partners and serve exceptionally well.

Nexus Security Drone

While Nexus Security handles almost all crime response on the station, they also oversee much of the security procedures on behalf of the ambassadors and aids in their security arrangements. The chief of operations is the Chief Security Officer, whose incumbent is a human, Mark Edgar, whose office is located within the Security Sector, an effective fortress within the station. Within this sector lies the NexSec Academy which all new recruits participate in regardless of experience. The Academy trains and recruits in everything from sensitivity training to live fire combat exercises for the purposes of providing pirate suppression, customs enforcement, and even search-and-rescue. The academy also is responsible for retraining officers every five years, a vast task for the over 500,000 constables of NexSec.

Nexsec is divided up into 7 primary divisions

Enforcement: The Enforcement division consists of uniformed officers who patrol the Nexus and handle minor infractions, resolve disputes, and respond to emergencies as needed. The Enforcement division also handles domestic disputes and all basic responses to crime reports.

Investigation: The investigation division handles the gathering of evidence and the unravelling of crimes that are more sophisticated. These detectives go through special training and are selected from a pool of candidates at the academy. Detectives are also responsible for the proper handling and organisation of evidence to be turned over to the Department of Prosecutions for trials handled by the Station Judiciary.

Customs: Customs Officers are those who screen the passengers who arrive on the station via transport, as well as via private ships. Customs Officers are also responsible for the scanning and handling cargo and luggage that pass through the ports when arriving on the station. They are charged with the confiscation of contraband, and the arrest of smugglers who try to bypass customs on the station.

Cybercrime:: The Cybercrime division is a specialised division who deal with cybercrimes, such as identity theft, copyright theft, hacking, viral attacks, and illegal AI. This division is also responsible for the crimes against cybernetic individuals, a growing trend in recent years as cybernetics has become more and more normalised as dealing with these individuals can be dangerous and could quickly escalate to needing Special Response involvement.

Special Response: Special Response Officers are heavily armed officers who deal with hostage situations, bombs, and heavily armed criminals. In the event the Nexus is attacked, they have been the front line of interior defence, armed with military-grade weaponry. This section makes use of advanced equipment such as Power Armor and Heavy Battle mechs in order to put an end into any event they are called to quickly and effectively.

Nexus Intelligence: Nexus Intelligence acts as the observation tool to pre-empt any attacks on the Nexus. Their goal is to pre-empt any crime or attack on the nexus, or to target the origin point of complicated criminal enterprises. Nexus intelligence uses its vast array of agents, confidants, informants and spyware to track and nail criminal and terrorist organisations.

Nexus Defence Fleet: The Nexus Defence Fleet constitutes a new development of the Nexus Security Forces. While the Commonwealth once provided security for the station, its dissolution left a severe vulnerability, the Dissolution War and the disbandment of the Admiralty Government left the station even more vulnerable to attack. Financed by the guilds, banks and corporations, as well as taking control of a remnant Commonwealth fleet and a few mercenary companies early on, the Nexus secured itself a strong fleet, capable of defending the station properly. The fleet's primary role is to protect the station but also volunteers its services in protecting nearby systems from criminal organisations such as rogue mercenaries and pirates. Nexus security finally now has a fleet capable and more than willing to defend it against all threats, foreign and domestic.

The Fleet itself is accountable directly to the Chief Security Officer, who appoints an Admiral to the position of the fleet. The fleet also handles and approves all salvaging operations in the system, as well as monitors each planet in the system for any illicit activities outside of the station itself. This includes any landings which it uses its specialised advanced reconnaissance units and NexSec marines to conduct raids on such structures which could be used to threaten the Nexus itself.

It features state-of-the-art equipment designed to handle a diverse range of cargo types. Efficient systems in place to distribute supplies throughout the station or prepare them for transport to other destinations. Together, the Docking Sector and Cargo Offload area form a critical component of the Nexus Space Station’s operations, supporting its role as a central hub in space commerce and logistics, with NexSec’s Customs officials always an ever present watchful eyes on affairs on this level.

Embassy & Park Sector

The Embassy & Park Sector has been described as the jewel of the Nexus. It is located in the centre and highest level of the station, home to the various government offices of the many nations of the galaxy. While the Residential Sectors are home to most of the Nexus’ population and are considered more lively, the Embassy and Park Sector is considered to be the province of known space's most elite and powerful individuals.

No detail was overlooked during the construction of this sector, boasting a large freshwater lake, verdant fields of grass, trees, and artificial clouds, as well as a day and night system and even gentle breezes. The water constantly goes through large filtration towers and back into the great lakes of the parks in the interest of public health. At “night” non intrusive lights and lanterns light up the area, and allow for an immersive experience for when walking through the station during this time of day. Transportation to and from this area, as well as all over the station can be easily done via the high speed monorail system, which is kept clean and maintained by droids and at least one NexSec officer on each car.

Station Monorail

Energy Production and Management Sector

This sector is responsible for generating, storing, and distributing energy within the station. It employs a combination of advanced technologies to harness power from various sources, with a strong emphasis on renewable energy and efficiency. The primary source of energy for Nexus is its vast array of solar panels, which capture sunlight and convert it into electricity. These panels are designed to be highly efficient and operate in the harsh conditions of space. Secondary is advanced Helium 3 Reactors, which provide a high-output, low-waste energy solution. Regenerative Fuel Cells also offer energy storage and generation capabilities, utilizing water electrolysis and fuel cell technology. To manage the fluctuating energy demands, the sector utilizes High-Capacity Batteries to store excess energy generated during peak production times. Flywheel Energy Storage Systems are also used to help in smoothing out the power supply and providing energy during solar eclipses or other events that reduce solar panel efficiency. A smart grid system ensures efficient energy distribution across the station, with real-time monitoring and adaptive load balancing.

The sector is equipped with sophisticated control systems that monitor energy production, storage levels, and consumption patterns. It prioritises sustainability, with ongoing research into improving energy efficiency and keeping the air of the station clean.

Finance and Commerce Sector

Tachyon Exchange

The Finance and Commerce Sector of the Nexus Space Station is a hub of economic activity, facilitating trade and financial transactions both within the station and with intergalactic-based markets. Throughout its history, the Finance and Commerce Sector is vital and has remained an important part of the Nexus’s economic viability, providing a robust platform for fostering growth and prosperity among its inhabitants and stakeholders. This sector is the financial heart of the station, equipped with advanced technology to manage the complex economy of a space-faring community. It includes banks, currency exchanges, and investment services tailored for an interplanetary clientele, as well as the pan-galactic guilds which keep the galaxy spinning. Various Local and Foreign Banks offer a range of services including savings, loans, and credit facilities, all adapted for the unique conditions of space. These banks also run currency exchange, handling transactions involving sub currencies and the station’s own digital currency which is the same as the Pan-Galactic Trade Currency-The Tachyon Credit or T-Bill as it's commonly called in some places. Large investment firms such as Torchman and Sons provide opportunities for residents to invest in space-based ventures and investment opportunities.

Operating on the Nexus presents unique challenges however, such as the need for secure communication across vast distances, which the galactic famous Tachyon Exchange has played an important part in keeping updated and active with as much realtime data as possible.

This sector of the Nexus also acts as an important hub for non-nexus based entities, such as Starcraft Designers and Producers. For example, the state owned Advex-Thei, a notable Adatovic state owned Starcraft manufacturer and producer is next to the wholly privately owned Aruthian brand Gort.

Industrial and Manufactories Sector

The Industrial Sector of the Nexus Space Station is a powerhouse of manufacturing and production, driving the station’s economy and supporting its extensive operations. This sector is a marvel of engineering and innovation, featuring facilities that leverage the unique conditions of space to manufacture goods that are difficult or impossible to produce in some other parts of the galaxy. Zero-Gravity Factories utilise the microgravity environment contained within this sector to create materials with unprecedented purity and structural integrity. Mass 3D printing facilities allow for the easy production of complex components for station maintenance and expansion, as well as for export. Advanced robotics systems handle tasks that are too dangerous or intricate for human workers. The Industrial Sector is not only a centre of production but also a hub for trade and economic growth. It attracts investment and partnerships from Nexus-based corporations and other space entities.

The sector operates with a commitment to sustainability, minimising waste and recycling materials. Ethical standards govern labour practices and environmental impact, ensuring responsible stewardship of station resources. In summary, the Industrial Sector is integral to the Nexus’ mission, providing essential goods and services while pushing the boundaries of what is possible in space manufacturing and industry.

Nexus Security and Emergency Response Sector

The Nexus Security and Emergency Response Sector is the headquarters of the defence forces of the station, fire services, breach repair, emergency hospitals and other disaster management facilities. A venerable fortress within the Nexus station, it has some of the most advanced defence structures in the galaxy as well as thousands of heavily armed guards. Equipped with emergency shields and even self sealing bunker environments, the Security and Response sector is the primary nerve centre for the defence of the station. Led by the Chief Security Officer, they are tasked with the safeguarding of the station and the continuation of the activities of the Nexus in line with residential and foreign dignitaries' needs.

This sector is huge, and is right at the centre of the station in order to maintain easy access to every other part of the station. It also controls all air traffic so that emergency shuttles can quickly get to any location in an emergency fast and quickly using the vast array of transport shuttles equipped for any situation. If an emergency situation occurs, this sector can place the entire station on lockdown and emergency power to ensure the station survives until the Defence Fleet or aid arrives.

The Lareshi Diamond

Recreational Sector

The Recreational Sector of the Nexus Space Station is a vibrant area dedicated to the leisure and well-being of its residents, offering a wide range of activities and facilities designed to promote relaxation, socialisation, and physical health. From advanced self programming simulators, to combat arenas, casinos, strip clubs, nightclubs, bars and even museums, if you can name it, the recreational sector has it. The Nexus boasts the largest archive of material and libraries that even still uses real physical paper books, the recreational sector is a cultural marvel that helps even the most stressed out organic to unwind and go home with a smile on their face.

A VIP Booth in the Recreational Sector

The Recreational sector also hosts a significant number of health clinics and exercise centres in order to have a positive effect on the health of people on the station and to promote fitness as a means of relaxation. There also exists various parks, complete with lakes, grass and trees from various planets that have been specifically imported for the purposes of showing off their homeworlds and creating an area that could remind even the most homesick Lareshian of their homeworld. Some of the more interesting areas are the theatres and comedy clubs, which provides a unique look at the cultural histories of the races of the galaxy, from plays from mediaeval periods to modern plays. Recently making headlines on the station was a play written by a governor in the Macellar Republic that he described as “Focusing on deep philosophical and political themes.” entitled “How Not to Get Caught.”

Residential Sectors

The Residential Sectors of the Nexus Space Station are designed to provide a comfortable and homely environment for the station’s inhabitants, offering a variety of living accommodations to suit different needs and preferences. These sectors are a blend of functionality and comfort, reflecting the diverse backgrounds of the station’s population. They are strategically located to provide easy access to other key sectors of the station. Residence in these sectors often come in three varieties.

Standard Quarters: Compact yet efficient units designed for individuals or couples, featuring essential amenities.

Family Units: Larger living spaces with multiple rooms to accommodate families, providing a sense of normalcy and stability.

Luxury Suites: High-end quarters offering premium features and panoramic views of space, catering to those desiring more lavish living conditions.

An Overlook of a part of Residential Sector C

Each recreation sector has its own stores, services and recreational facilities, although nothing on the size and scale as their dedicated sectors. Community Centers serve as social hubs where residents can gather for events and activities. Educational Facilities also exist which Include schools and libraries, ensuring access to education for all ages. Local health clinics provide medical services and psychological support, crucial for maintaining the well-being of residents on the station.

The Residential Sectors are more than just a place to live; they are vibrant communities that celebrate cultural diversity and foster a sense of belonging among the station’s population. Each Residential Sector has a residents council, an elected body which works out of the Administrative Sector in order to deal with the governance, needs and requirements that each diverse sector has. As the station holds 30 million people, the vast majority of housing in these sectors are the compact units, and therefore the community participation is seen as vital in the keeping of good mental health and as a means to deal with anti-social activity without it escalating to the point of NexSec involvement. NexSec often have foot patrols in these sectors, but realise that maintaining community relations is a vital part of maintaining order on the station.

Storage and Emergency Stockpiles Sector

The Storage and Emergency Stockpiles Sector is a crucial component of the Nexus Space Station, designed to manage resources efficiently and ensure the station’s preparedness for any contingency. This sector is the backbone of the station’s logistical operations, housing a vast array of storage facilities and emergency supplies that can be mobilised in response to various scenarios. There are various types of storage within this sector as listed below:

General Storage: Secure compartments for non-perishable goods, station equipment, and personal belongings of the residents.

Specialized Storage: Temperature-controlled units for sensitive materials, including medical supplies and scientific samples.

Bulk Storage: Large-scale warehouses for raw materials and goods used in the station’s manufacturing and maintenance.

Food and Water Reserves: Sufficient provisions to sustain the station’s population for an extended period without resupply.

Medical Supplies: A comprehensive collection of pharmaceuticals, medical equipment, and first-aid kits.

Disaster Response Kits: Pre-packed modules containing tools and resources for dealing with fires, hull breaches, and other emergencies.

The Storage and Emergency Stockpiles Sector therefore plays a vital role in maintaining the operational integrity of the Nexus Station, ensuring that it remains a safe and resilient habitat for all its inhabitants, and so that resources are properly stored if needed during an emergency situation.

The Defunct Commonwealth Governance Sector

The Defunct Commonwealth Governance Sector is what is left of the Commonwealth Seat of Government, such as the Commission Building, Parliament and Council. This sector of the station has been disconnected and sealed off due to the damage and radiation which overtook the area from the bombs dropped in the area. Discussions have been ongoing on whether to disconnect this part from the nexus entirely as decontamination is heavily taxing on the resources of the Nexus station, and will require decades of long cleanup work in order to make it habitable. For now it serves as an ever present reminder of what was lost when the Commonwealth collapsed, and the price of a lack of vigilance and defence. For now, decontamination continues, with Azhanian droids doing the bulk of the work as many organic crews refuse to even go near this section.
