[TAR] Community Charter

Community Charter | Home Page

Preamble

The Aurelian Republic (TAR) is a community shaped by tradition, spirited debate, and a shared commitment to public life. Our citizens take pride in a region that reflects the best of civic culture: fairness, courtesy, accountability, and democratic participation.

This Community Charter sets out the values and expectations that guide how we engage with one another. It draws upon the principles that underpin the real‑world - Democracy, Rule of Law, Individual Liberty, Mutual Respect, and Tolerance - and adapts them to the unique character of our region.

By adopting this Charter, TAR affirms its commitment to a community that is welcoming, constructive, and grounded in the traditions we collectively celebrate.

I. Foundational Principles

1. Democracy
We encourage open, reasoned, and good‑faith debate. Every citizen has the right to participate in regional affairs, express political views, and contribute to public discourse without fear of hostility.

2. Rule of Law
We respect the region’s constitutional framework, its statutes, and the authority of elected and appointed officials. Disagreements are pursued through proper channels, never through personal attacks or disruptive conduct.

3. Individual Liberty
Citizens may engage in politics, roleplay, cultural life, or community activities as they choose. No one should feel pressured or judged for how they participate.

4. Mutual Respect
All voices — new or long‑standing, political or roleplay‑focused — deserve courtesy and acknowledgement. Respectful dialogue is the foundation of our community.

5. Tolerance
We value diversity of thought, identity, and playstyle. Differences enrich the region; disdain or exclusion diminishes it.

II. Behaviours We Encourage

1. Courtesy and Good Manners
Warm welcomes, polite conversation, and thoughtful engagement strengthen our community spirit.

2. Empathy and Patience
We listen before responding, assume good intent where reasonable, and recognise that tone matters.

3. Inclusivity
Every citizen should feel they belong here. We strive to ensure that no one is marginalised or overlooked.

4. Recognition and Encouragement
We celebrate contributions of all kinds — legislative work, roleplay, cultural projects, or simple acts of helpfulness.

5. Guidance and Support
Experienced members help newcomers navigate our systems, traditions, and opportunities for involvement.

III. Behaviours That Undermine Community Life

1. Personal or Hostile Conduct
Debate must challenge ideas, not individuals. Insults, mockery, or belittlement have no place in TAR.

2. Toxicity and Disrespect
Inflammatory language, persistent negativity, or attempts to provoke others erode trust and goodwill.

3. Unfair Political Conduct
Campaigning should be robust but honest. Misrepresentation, personal attacks, or attempts to intimidate opponents violate democratic norms.

4. Exclusion or Gatekeeping
Cliques, deliberate sidelining, or dismissive behaviour towards newcomers harms community cohesion.

5. Disruption of Regional Harmony
Actions intended to destabilise, intimidate, or create division run counter to the values of this Charter.

IV. Standards for Debate and Discourse

1. Constructive Political Debate
Political disagreement is welcome when it is reasoned, evidence‑based, and free from personal animosity.

2. Respect for Diverse Perspectives
We engage with contributions from across the political and cultural spectrum, including minority viewpoints.

3. Balance of Regional Life
TAR thrives when politics, roleplay, and community activity coexist. No single domain should dominate to the detriment of others.

4. Consistent Welcome to New Citizens
Every newcomer deserves a positive, supportive first experience.

V. Leadership and Accountability

1. Leading by Example
Officeholders, moderators, and community leaders are expected to model the standards set out in this Charter.

2. Shared Responsibility
Civility is a collective duty. Every citizen contributes to the tone and culture of the region.

3. Addressing Concerns
Concerns about conduct should be raised respectfully and handled in accordance with regional law and moderator guidance.

4. Growth and Reflection
We recognise that mistakes happen. We value sincere apologies, constructive reflection, and efforts to improve.

VI. Our Aspirational Vision

Citizens of TAR have expressed a desire for a region that is:
• welcoming
• lively
• respectful
• politically engaging
• culturally rich

We strive for a community where:
• Every citizen feels valued.
• Debate is spirited yet civil.
• Creativity and roleplay flourish.
• Diversity of voices is celebrated.
• Public life is vibrant and enjoyable.

Adoption Clause
