Moderation
Site moderators frequently block or ban people for violating site rules, such as attempting to spam players, or post obscene content. For such bans to work, we must be able to identify those people as they attempt to return to the site. We do this by comparing information such as account tracking to that which we have recorded as belonging to banned users.
Similarly, moderators may use this information to identify the source of problems when a person uses multiple accounts to conceal their activity.
In these cases, we retain relevant information as long as we believe the problem user represents a danger to the community, as indicated by the severity of the behavior and the frequency with which the person attempts to circumvent our bans. We will remove the information within 2 months of the most recent contact.
Keeping it fair: World Assembly Voting
The World Assembly is an optional organization within the site that relies on a principle of one vote per member. In order to enforce this, we use collected information to perform algorithmic matching in order to detect when one person appears to be cheating by operating multiple World Assembly nation accounts.
Posing/Typing
Imperatus uses information such as Post to keep records of offenses such as profanity or discrimination.
NationStates is a free online political game. Players should respect the fun, playful atmosphere of the game, and remain civil when interacting with each other. However, this is politics, and there are more players than moderators, so someone may post content that you find objectionable. By continuing, you agree that you understand this, and that NationStates.net is not a publisher and not responsible for posts by players.
You understand that this region is open to the general public, and agree that while using it you may encounter content posted by other users that you consider objectionable. You understand that while reasonable efforts will be exerted to ensure the site remains free from offensive and illegal content, the site administrator(s) and/or region moderator(s) cannot control what other people upload. All responsibility whatsoever is expressly disclaimed for content posted by the general public.
As a large community webgame, NationStates enforces certain minimum standards of behaviour to ensure an enjoyable site experience for players. Collected here for your amusement and amazement are summaries of the rules and conditions of NationStates, building on precedents from Moderators past, present, and future.

Imperatus is a friendly community. Any disrupting the community, discriminating the community, or flaming the community is seen as a medium class offense. When speaking on a sensitive topic of the community about the member DO NOT be speaking for the region as a whole UNLESS TOLD OR ADVISED BY THE REGIONAL STAFF, BUT VERIFIED BY THE DELEGATE. Simple things such as an offensive member and a story can disrupt the community and break it as a whole. The community as a whole is truthful, friendly, and nice. IF IT IS AN INTERNAL ISSUE IT WILL BE ADDRESSED BY THE DELEGATE. Imperatus believes in running on a Free, Truthful community.
