Map of Daardus

Explanatory Notes
The light blue, roughly circular ocean area in the middle of the map is the game area. New islands can be added to the map in this area. For more information about getting on the map, see below.
"The Continent" is outside the game area. No nation on the map is allowed to interact with the continent in any way without prior approval of the collective participants.
The two "boiling oceans" are not literally boiling. Under them (as well as under the stretch of continent separating them) there is a large area in which (for unknown reasons) mantle plumes cause frequent volcanism. For this reason, the two "boiling oceans" are often very hot, leading to the emergence of extremely power tropical cyclones. These tend to move away from the equator in an westerly direction until a latitude of roughly 40°C where they bend into an easterly direction. Sometimes, these cyclones devastate countries on the continent, leading to the immigration of some new people into the game area. Sometimes, these cyclones hit one or more countries in the game area, causing natural disasters so enormous, that governments collapse and countries devolve into chaos, from which eventually some new country emerges. However, events like these only occur if decided by the collective participants.
Names of the continent and the two boiling oceans are likely to change.

Climate
The following map gives a rough indication of climate zones on Daardus. Explanation of the map colors can be found under the map. Note that the effects of ocean currents, the continent (and other yet unknown large landmasses) and the two boiling oceans are ignored here.

Dark green: Wet tropical, rain-forest. Most common climates in
Köppen climate classification: Af, Aw, As. Prevailing easterly wind.
Yellow-green: Intermediate tropical, savanna. Köppen: Aw, As, BSh. Prevailing north-easterly wind on northern hemisphere; south-easterly wind on southern hemisphere.
Yellow: Dry subtropical, steppe, desert. Köppen: BSh, BWh, Cwa, Csa. Prevailing north-easterly wind on northern hemisphere; south-easterly wind on southern hemisphere.
Orange: Warm temperate. Köppen: Cwa, Csa, Cfa.
Cyan: Temperate. Köppen: Cwb, Csb, Cfb. Prevailing westerly wind.
Dark blue: Cold temperate. Köppen: Cwc, Csc, Cfc, ET. Prevailing strong westerly wind.

Adding New Islands (New Nations) to the Map and Other Map Changes
New countries can be founded by new participants/players either by taking over a vacant (white) area on the map, or by adding a new island (or islands or part of an island/continent) to the map. The maximum size of countries is roughly that of France or Germany.
Any request to be added to the map must be accepted by the collective participants and must follow applicable rules.
If the addition of a new island (or islands or part of an island/continent) to the map is approved, a drawing of its shape(s) in equirectangular projection at a vertical (north-south) scale of 4.86km/pixel must be submitted to
Txekuaqa-Ngmong. Notice that in equirectangular projection horizontal (east-west) scale is significantly stretched at higher lattitudes. At a latitude of 60°, for example, the horizontal scale is 2.43km/pixel. Candidate participants are themselves responsible for adjusting their draft map to this horizontal distortion. They will receive a map in azimuthal equidistant projection at a scale of 1km/pixel in return and are expected to use that map as a basis for a detailed map of their country. (Examples will be added here in due time.)
