Orbis Roleplay Guide
ROLEPLAY GUIDEWe aim to promote a fun and interactive environment for people to worldbuild and roleplay with great freedom; the world of Orbis is based off the real world in the 1800's, however alternate history is welcome and encouraged. Our map depicts both Player Nations and NPC nations, which exist to provide additional states to interact with and include in your RP. Time progresses faster than in the real world, with each week being equivalent to one year in the roleplay. The current date can be found
here. For any questions or comments, please refer to a Cultural Agent.
I. Maintain a level of realism.
Try to keep alternate history somewhat plausible, and keep technology within the bounds of the RP timeframe.
II. Do not metagame.
Using information that your nation in the RP should not know about.
III. Do not powergame.
For every strength a nation has, they also have weaknesses. There are no unstoppable forces - try to be reasonable.
IV. Do not roleplay on other people's behalf.
You control the RP actions of your own nation and people - avoid controlling the actions of another nation.
V. Do not glorify genocide.
Having genocide occur in the course of the roleplay is allowed, but we do not tolerate glorification of it.
CLAIMING LAND
You can claim land through our Regional Discord Server's Map Claims channel or by telegramming
Renolia. It is important to include the following in your claim:
- The name of your NationStates country
- The name you want your country in the Roleplay to have
- The area of the map you want to claim
- A few sentences explaining your country's system of government
- A paragraph explaining your country's history
The map contains both Player Nations and NPC's. You can claim land owned by NPC's as part of your claim.
Once you are added to the map, you are free to take the reigns as your country! You can post to the Regional Message Board about what events are happening in your country, as well as your country's response to world events. Major news can be found in the RMB or the Discord Server's roleplay channels
Welcome to the Orbis roleplay!
SPECIAL RULES
INTERACTING WITH NPC's
The map depicts three types of nations, each of which can be interacted with in different ways.
- Player Nations (shown in bright colours)
These are your fellow players.
- Non-Player Countries (NPC's) (Major nations shown in very muted/dark colours, minor nations shown in grey)
Organized nations not controlled by another player. They can be interacted with after you receive approval from a Cultural Agent.
- Decentralized Lands (shown in white)
Decentralized Lands can be colonized if you roleplay out the establishment of the colony and the retaliation you may encounter from natives. Colonization is a time-consuming process, so please aim to maintain a degree of realism.
COLONIZING LAND
Decentralized Lands are shown in white on the map, representing loosely organized regions with no formal system of governance. These territories can be colonized after you submit a Colonial Claim to
Renolia showing which regions you intend to colonize. Other people may claim overlapping territory, but colonization can only take place within your own claimed area. Colonization is a time-consuming process, so please aim to maintain a degree of realism. For inspiration, consider what may affect your colony, such as the terrain or natives, as well as what the economic value of the land is. Many countries in history colonized land and then sold it to others once it stopped being profitable.
