Overview
The Dixie Building Attack was a premeditated act of domestic terrorism carried out on February 2, 2320, in the borough of Dixie in Vermillion City, the capital of the Consigahrian Empire. A commercial aircraft was hijacked and intentionally crashed into the Dixie Building, one of the most prominent civic towers in the Imperial Core. The attack resulted in the total structural collapse of the building and the deaths of over 6,300 people, with more than 14,000 injured in the immediate and extended aftermath.
It is widely regarded as the deadliest single-day attack in Consigahrian history, and the most profound breach of civic trust since the collapse of the Venerra Compact.
Background
The Dixie Building was constructed in 2283 as the headquarters of the Civic Reconciliation Courts, Ministry of Social Policy, and several key citizen service bureaus. At 102 stories tall, it became a symbol of postwar bureaucratic resilience following the Great Civil Reordering.
By the early 2300s, unrest simmered between federal institutions and insurgent remnants of the Unionist Wind Front, a radical group advocating for provincial sovereignty and the abolition of centralized oversight. Thought to be defunct by 2315, a sleeper cell led by Ayodele Karas managed to infiltrate civil aviation and infrastructure sectors.
The Attack
At 08:36 on the morning of February 2, 2320, Karas hijacked Flight AV-9007, a commercial route inbound from Orense, using obsolete yet functional biometric override protocols acquired during her time in the Venerra Insurgency.
The aircraft was crashed deliberately into the Dixie Building between floors 81 and 84. Inside the cargo hold was a custom phosphorus-magnesium incendiary, which ignited a violent internal blaze. Just 19 minutes later, at 08:55, the building collapsed in a vertical cascade, killing thousands on impact.
Drone footage and city surveillance pylons captured the fall, all of which are now preserved within the Lotus Memory Core.

Aftermath
The attack prompted:
• Nationwide state of emergency and military lockdown of Vermillion City
• Operation Whipcord Eclipse – targeted eradication of Unionist Wind Front remnants
• Emergency Secrets Accord – temporary authorization of memory modification for high-level officials, including the Emperor
• Construction of Dixie Lotus Tower – a lotus-petal-shaped monument etched with the names of every confirmed casualty
• National Day of Mourning established on February 2nd (2/2/20), with seven minutes of silence at 08:55 observed annually
Legacy
The Dixie Building Attack remains a defining tragedy in Consigahrian history. It triggered sweeping reforms in urban design, airspace security, intelligence coordination, and civic resilience policy.
The grief of Emperor Davis XX, whose mother was among the victims, became emblematic of national sorrow and fortitude. Numerous memorials, scholarly works, and cultural tributes continue to explore the implications of 2/2/20 on the imperial psyche.
