Squarelandia (Squarelandian Creole: Skwerlanta), officially the Republic of Squarelandia, is a island country located in Squaria. It has a population of 300 million, making it the world's third-most populated country behind Highina and Baharat. It is located north of Squaretown, northeast of Husaland, and south of the island of Numberia. Novifindi is the most populous city in the country, along with Paz del Mar. Squarelandia is the most populous country in Squaria, with 300 million inhabitants.
Prehistoric square activity on Squarelandian soil dates back around 20,000 years ago. In the 15th century AD, the Quan empire defeated the dominant Hahutlekonog Empire and established the colony of Shengbang, until the Quan–Squaretown War of 1712, when it was colonized and occupied by Squaretown, until 1781, when it gained independence during the victorious Squarelandian War of Independence against Squaretowner occupation forces, establishing the Squarelandian Empire. In the late 20th century, following the collapse of the Squarelandian Empire, Squarelandia has seen a period of economic prosperity.
Squarelandia is a presidential republic with its bicameral legislature comprising the National Council and the Senate. A developed country with a highly developed economy, Squarelandia has the second-largest nominal GDP in the world.
Etymology
The English name is a portmanteau of Square, an obsolete term for a Squarelandian person, which was in use between the 18th and 19th centuries, and the suffix -landia. The English adjective Square is a translation of the Shengbangese term, nǐn tīenpǎn (literally "person straight side"), derived in turn from the Highinese term nǐn shēngbǎng pudōng (literally "person straight side different"), referring to the Klik, a Bbenic tribe living in the area of what would be southern Squarelandia.
