President Slach Orders 'Limited Force' to Deal with Protests, Kolkesburg on High Alert Following Terror Threats

By Kous Urum, written 5 April, 2024

Slach hopes to crack down on protests effectively as an oncoming presidential election loom over Sateroc

( S B N ) - Earlier today, the results of Slach's emergency meeting with his cabinet were announced, as President Slach ordered a 'very limited force' of no more than a thousand police for each Cascutia and Saroq to deal with the protests. It is expected that police forces across major cities will each contribute at least a few hundred soldiers to each region, with the primary targets being Elmonton and Qaqarsville.

In the same statement, Slach also condemned the "extremely violent nature" of the protests, and urged the demonstrators to find constructive and peaceful ways to express their grievances, instead of large-scale riots against the outnumbered regional police forces.

Meanwhile, authorities in Kolkesburg have placed the city's terror alert on the highest level, after receiving what they deemed to be very credible terror threats against civilian centers and government infrastructure. It is unknown where these threats have come from or who made them, however many within the city's government have stated on social media that they believe it to be from either terrorist groups in Cascutia or in Saroq.

Reportedly, chief commander of the Brotherhood of Kolkesburg, Naum Pavlavain, offered to support the intervention with his own forces, however this was seemingly rejected as no news of this ever came from Pavlavain. The Brotherhood of Kolkesburg, the country's most feared paramilitary unit, came into conflict with the Saterocian government during the 2023 civil war, in which they sided with the AUN against the Saterocian military. However, a few weeks ago rumors arose of a possible reconciliation between them and the government after months of an uneasy peace between both sides. These rumors seemed to have been confirmed, with the group easily being able to offer help to the government.

Protests, which have been ongoing since last week, have only continued to escalate in recent days, as the federal government has doubled down on their stance, with calls to end extended lockdown restrictions in both Saroq and Cascutia rejected. Meanwhile, the regional administrations in charge of both regions declared separate states of emergencies, requesting federal support, which today has formally been accepted.

Demonstrations have been intensifying for the past few days, with an increasing number of riots taking place across Elmonton and Qaqarsville. Yesterday, one protester was killed and a number were seriously injured by Saroqi police in Elmonton after a particularly harsh crackdown due to a series of lootings taking place in southern portions of the city.

The death of a protester reverberated across Saroq and Cascutia, as hundreds of thousands went out to demonstrate against the Saterocian government. Protests were increasingly violent overnight, with police forces reportedly using rubber bullets against a large crowd of protestors, seriously wounding many. Online, a Saroqi opposition figure posted the names of hundreds who had been wounded in the protests against the government, along with the name of the protestor who had been killed, which gained millions of likes.

Alongside this, insurgent groups across Cascutia and Saroq announced their full support for the protests against the "Saterocian oppressors", calling on the demonstrators to take up arms. A Saroqi group in particular, known as the Saroqi Republican Forces, or the FRS for short, published a video, threatening the Saterocian government if they continued to enact their harsh response against protestors. However, there is no evidence to prove that this video is linked to the current threats against Kolkesburg.
