Mei Banti Ethensiani - National Anthem of Ethensia

Mei Banti Ethensiani Link
Mei Banti Ethensiani (English: My Beloved Ethensia) is the national anthem of Ethensia. It was composed by Tatin Batiorr, an Ethensian poet and was written in 1890 at the request of the Ethensian revolutionary government to be the national anthem of Ethensia. When Ethensian independence was declared on the 23rd of August, 1896, Mei Banti Ethensiani was selected to be the national anthem, and was played during the ceremony. The new Kingdom of Ethensia was short lived, and eventually became occupied by Norland in 1911, who banned the display of Ethensian flags and banners, and the national anthem.

In 1926, the bans were lifted, and in 1929 the Commonwealth of Ethensia was founded, granting an autonomous government while still being part of Norland, with Kyi Tam Hu'nh being the president. The anthem's melody and Burodan lyrics were restored, however the Commonwealth did not adopt the lyrics and instead used the instrumental melody as the anthem of the Commonwealth of Ethensia. In official ceremonies and in schools, the anthem was played after the national anthem of Norland. While not made official, many Ethensians still sang the anthem with no penalty. In 1950, Tatin Batiorr's lyrics were made official, one year before Ethensia was set to gain independence. However, in August 1951, Ethensia was invaded by the Razhdah Empire, effectively declaring war on Norland. Razhdah's goal was to seize Carlton Capitol to use as a launch point to reach other smaller islands in order to pressure Norland to end it's support for Warpona's allies. Razhdah was also short in natural resources such as oil, gas, and rubber, so it aimed to expand it's territories to acquire resources and make living space for it's population. They first launched a surprise attack on Centirisa Air Base in Tunouth, followed by landing of ground troops on Centirisa's coast. The defending Ethensian and Norlandic troops were under the command of General Thomas Bush. Under the pressure of superior numbers, the defending forces withdrew to Darcarthur and other surrounding cities. On January 17, 1952, General Bush declared the capital city, Carlton Capitol, an open city to prevent its destruction. The Ethensian defense continued until the final surrender of Norlandic-Ethensian forces on the Tunouth-Northern Ethensia border in April 1953 and on Pansy in May of the same year. In June 1952, the entirety of the Ethensian Island was under Razhdah control. President Hu'nh had accompanied the troops to Pansy and later left for the Norland, where they set up a government in exile. Bush was ordered to Radnor, where he started to plan for a return to Ethensia.

While under Razhdahni occupation, Ethensian flags and the anthem were banned until 1953, when Razhdah declared Ethensia an independent kingdom under the Burodan Monarch since Norlandic government had promised independence of Ethensia in 1951. The new puppet state government officially adopted the national anthem of Razhdah as the anthem of Ethensia, but "Mei Banti Ethensiani" was still popular throughout guerilla forces and civilians.
The return of the Norlandics in Late June 1955 was welcomed by nearly all the Ethensians. The collaborationist "Kingdom of Ethensia" set up by the Razhdahni under Mabela I, was highly unpopular, and the extreme destructiveness of the Razhdahni Army in Carlton Capitol in its last days solidified Razhdah's image as a permanent target of hate. The pre-war Commonwealth system was reestablished under Kyi Tam Hu'nh, who became president until his assassination in 1959. On the 23rd of August, 1957, Ethensia was recognised as an independent country as the Federal Republic of Ethensia. The flag of Norland was lowered as the flag of Ethensia rose, accompanied by Tatin Batiorr's "Mei Banti Ethensiani", remaining unchanged and standing for over 100 years.

Today, the national anthem is played in school assemblies and official flag raising ceremonies, both in Ethensia and out of Ethensia where the Ethensian community is sizable.

Mei banti Ethensiani,
Dre contī huta mei blu gatō,
Dri pioia, debyu faji lo tutubra wen cela.

Mei banti Ethensiani,
Lo pir etî beepā tiupo tan;
Skrin uybō!
Skrin uybō!
Skrin uybō Ethensiani!

My Beloved Ethensia,
The land where my blood shed,
Thy people, they vow to safeguard our nation.

My Beloved Ethensia,
To your call, us patriots cry;
Long live!
Long live!
Long live Ethensia!

Trivia
- The anthem was common to hear on radios during sign on and sign off, but became less common with the introduction of 24/7 radio.
- The anthem is also played in school assemblies, accompanied with the raising of the flag. Flag raising ceremonies happen every monday for most schools, while the flag is raised normally on every other day.
Law
- Under Commonwealth Act No. 8491, the national anthem must be sung in it's respective language, Ethensia, regardless if you're in or outside of Ethensia. The anthem must also be sung "with fervor". The law also states that all students must commit the national anthem to memory, however this does not apply to those outside of the country.
