Vote For GA Resolution "Sex Worker Protections Act"
Resolution Analysis
Overview
This proposal seeks to ensure the safety of sex workers and anyone else involved in sex work. It first requires member states to treat sex work as an equal and legitimate form of employment. The proposal then requires member states to provide free and safe medical products to prevent the transmission of sexually-transmitted infections to all sex workers; the General Accounting Office may use funds from the World Assembly General Fund to help member states fund these products if the state can prove they are unable to fully do so. The proposal then prohibits employing, selling, or consuming sex work from a person that is either lacks the mental capacity to consent to sexual acts, has not consented, or is under the age of majority in a member state. Finally, the proposal mandates that member states must address violations of sexual autonomy and hate crimes committed against sex workers with the same speed and severity as another instance of such a crime.
Recommendation
The proposal at vote helps ensure that all those involved in sex work are safe and protected, with the requirement of providing medical products to those involved. By requiring member states to treat sex workers like any other employed person and adequately responding to both violations of sexual autonomy and hate crimes perpetrated against them, the proposal ensures that those involved in sex work are treated both equally and fairly. Additionally, by explicitly banning actions related to sex work with those who lack the mental capacity to consent, don't consent, or are under the age of majority, the proposal ensures that everyone's individual rights are respected.
For the above reasons, the Ministry of World Assembly Affairs recommends a vote FOR the GA proposal at vote, "Sex Worker Protections Act".
