A Basketball Tournament for the Ages

Throughout March, a basketball tournament was run by Lands End’s very own New Slovakastan in association with the Alliance Cultural Office. It is with great pleasure that we are able to report the tournament seemed to be a rousing success. Thirteen Teams engaged in several days of intense play, finally culminating in a single-elimination, eight-team bracket.

Ultimately, the Gondor Druids emerged victorious, beating Team IRA in two games.
The success of this tournament and event will hopefully lead to more such in the coming days, and we here at the Times will be sure to keep you posted.

Don't be Bored, Join the Discord

People join this region every day, some have fun and make a name for themselves, others are forgotten about and sit quietly in the corner. As you just read earlier, there are a bunch of fun things to take part in like the basketball tournament that you can only know about if you're an active member of the region's LinkDiscord server. Come get to know new people and interact with your regionmates so that they feel more like friends than faceless nations. Make a name for yourself, don't be that weird guy no one wants to invite to the BBQ.
  • The Return of the Founders
As some of you may recall, nearly half a year ago all of the founder nations of the Augustin Alliance regions suddenly ceased to exist. This left many residents feeling disappointed but not surprised as most saw this coming as the founder became increasingly inactive. This, along with the death of our Discord bot marked the end of an era and was also covered in past editions of the Shareholder's Times which you should all read. Now, however, the Founder nations of all Augustin Alliance regions including our very own Mercantana have been restored. Times staff confirmed that this decision was made by the founder after the introduction of the new Frontiers & Strongholds mechanics that introduced major gameplay changes. Make sure you keep reading for detailed coverage of these important changes. The return of the founders may bring the Augustin Alliance into new period of security and prosperity, but only time will tell.

  • Strongholds, Frontiers, and You
    By: Bonnie Blue Republic

Recently, out of the blue, Nationstates staff launched a major update to the way nations spawn and regions exist. This update, known as Frontiers/Strongholds, had been in the works for some time, but no prior warning was given before it went live.

What does this update actually do?
It makes two major changes to regions. One is that the title of “Founder” now carries no inherent authority anymore - the Founder of a Stronghold is the first Governor, but that is a distinct title. The Governorship can be passed along to a different nation, with all privileges and permissions thereof.

The second is the introduction of a new type of region: The Frontier.
Historically, new nations have been created in the Feeder Regions. You’re probably familiar with at least one of these - they’re the Pacifics. Now, however, any region can elect to become a Frontier, and gain the benefit of some new nation spawns. It’s not all sunshine and roses, though:
Frontiers don’t have a Governor, and their Delegate is the supreme arbiter of all things for it.
They also suffer the same influence decay that the feeders historically have and do.

Regions can elect to switch between the two of they want to, but this has an influence cost and takes time, and can be blocked by the Security Council of the World Assembly if they should decide to.

What, then, does this mean for you? Well, assuming that you’re in one of the regions of the Alliance, it means that endorsing your fellow regionmates just became a little bit more important but that’s really about it.
The Central Strategic Committee, and August personally, intend to leave all of the AA regions as Strongholds for the foreseeable future.

For Lands End specifically, the Board recently passed a resolution declaring their agreeance with such policy.

So keep your influence numbers up, and help build everybody else’s too.

  • From the Desk of the VP-PR

Hello all, let me start by thanking everyone who has constantly supported me every month with your feedback for the Shareholder's Times. Anyone who knows me well enough knows that I've considered this job to be a passion project of mine and have thoroughly enjoyed writing each and every article. As you saw in last month's edition, I recently was appointed to a new position in the region which requires significant devotion and attention in order for me to carry out my duties in a way that will leave me satisfied with my work. As you can probably already tell, a few of these articles are written by a certain someone other than me. That is because Bonnie Blue Republic has completed the VP-PR application and has seriously impressed me with their writing and help over the past few months with the RP section of the newspaper. With all of this in mind, the COO has appointed BBR as the new VP-PR effective immediately. Thank you all for reading, and I cannot wait to see what BBR does with this project going forward.

World Assembly News

  • The URA has elected new leadership, with a large portion of them being familiar faces from the AA including the new president Rei Khan from Cape of Good Hope. This is very exciting news and I'm sure this new team of leaders will do great things for the URA.

  • With the new gameplay mechanics being introduced, there is also a new kind of security council resolution making the rounds which is able to stop a region from the ability to change from frontiers to strongholds and vice versa. This has become a controversial subject as some support these types of resolutions while others feel they are too powerful and no region should have its freedom to determine its future stripped away from them. Keep an eye out for these injunctions and let us know what you think about them on the RMB or the Discord!

  • Special Interest: Biggonian Civil War
An ongoing conflict between the Grand Duchy of Reisburg and the Principality of Grenzland has been concluded at the request of Empress Ricardina, formally establishing Reisburg as an independent province. This doesn't change much in the overall strategic outlook of the war, although it does leave the Commonwealth with less to worry about moving forward.

  • Special Interest: Invasion of Arstotskiano
Military action has formally ended as a result of the Treaty of Steyntruthmen, with the Royal Artstotskian Parilimeant ceding all authority in all matters to occupying forces. Three sectors of administration have been established in Arstotskiano, one each for Terra Argo, Magna-Scientia, and Papalania keeping the peace.

The invading Coalition will be selecting representatives to assist in the creation of a new Federal Republic of Arstotskiano. This new Republic will pay concessions to the Coalition powers and will have limitations placed upon the armed forces thereof.
