What is the Bremen Republic?

The Bremen Republic

The Bremen Republic, officially known as the People's Republic of Northern Germany, is a communist state born out of the ashes of Germany after its defeat in the Great War.

Things begin to veer off from our timeline in 1916: Russia bails out during that year and the United States decides to join the fight. The communist revolution against the Tzar fires off early and easily topples the Whites. The Bolsheviks enforce milder reforms and manages to establish a stronger grip over the country as a result. Overall, by 1918, Russia's back on track to regain its lost territories and spread the word of Lenin.

The United States deploy in France much more quickly and immediately begin to coordinate with French and British forces to push back the Deutsches Heer. By 1918, Germany still clings to some Belgian and French land, but it has been mostly pushed back to German soil. The Kaiser abdicates on the 13th of August 1918 and flees to the Netherlands, leaving the country in the hands of a military junta led by General Hindenburg.

As little Willy renounces the crown and runs off to Breda, the Soviets seize the moment and declare war against Germany, quickly marching in and seizing all its previous territories and occupying a sizeable chunk of eastern Germany. On the western front, the Deutscher Heer fully collapses and Entente forces march in. Germany capitulates.

Finally, Germany is divided into three spheres of influence: the North goes to the Soviets, the East to the English, and the South to the Americans. The French fully integrate Alsace-Lorraine, Saarland and Rheinland into their country, finally righting the shame of Sedan and asserting their dominance over Europe once again. The Bremen Republic is the Soviet occupation zone. Its constitution was signed in Bremen, hence the name.

It is the year 1925. The Soviet Union has finally recalled the last of its occupation forces. The Bremen Republic has a difficult future ahead of itself. Backed by the Soviet Union and surrounded by hostile nations, thriving is going to be hard for its institutions.
