LDU | Role-Play | WorldVision Song Contest

Welcome to the WorldVision Song Contest, aiming to provide and unite nations from different parts of the world through music. The WorldVision Song Contest is an outlet to showcase the popular or native music of your nation.

The WorldVision Song Contest will be hosted it in a venue of an LDU nation, where it will be broadcasted for the entire region to see. All LDU nations (puppets included) and embassy nations (limit 2 nations per user) will be invited to attend and participate in the opening ceremony, contest, and after party. Each participating nation will choose a song (real-life song from YouTube) in which they believe represents the culture or people of their nation. After the performances, all LDU nations and embassy nations will be allowed to vote for the best performance via regional poll.

There will possibly be judges and points awarded for more thought out performances (RP posts). It is also encouraged that your performers come dressed in your nation’s authentic cultural attire.

[JUDGE]

This is a music contest... that will be like no other.

This is our base, the Sangeet Natak Akademi - the most prestigious drama school in South Asia.

*The contestants arrive.*

And these are the contestants. They will use no autotune, and they will use no backing tracks - only talent will get them through.

11 different countries will be competing - but only one will take home the gold.

This is WorldVision.

Before the WorldVision contest begins, a dinner party will be held for the contestants. They are encouraged to meet and interact with each other.

The WorldVision dinner has begun - R.A. Mahran and Neha Shanwalkar sit down at their tables, waiting for the others to arrive.

Having not eaten since the flight, Chiara Cantara arrives to the table starving wondering what’s on the menu.

The waiter hands Cantara the menu and asks her what she would like to eat.

After hearing about the reward offered for their capture and return to North Gilead, the Bandmaids arrive to the table a bit shaken.

Cantara tells the waiter that she’ll have one of everything. 😋

The waiter is unsure if Cantara is joking, but relays her order to the chef anyway.

After an extremely long time, 20 waiters emerge with approximately 80 different plates and are clearly struggling to hold them.

R.A. Mahran starts bursting into uncontrollable laughter.

One of the waiters ask what the Bandmaids would like to eat.

The contestants of Sjevre and Arkhangelsk-Vologda arrive at their tables while talking with each other. They see 20 waiters carry out 80 plates and are veryy confused.

Neha Shanwalkar whispers into the Sjevrean contestants' ear: She wanted to order "one of everything".

Surprised watches Alexandra K. Teläänii how Cantara (Potenzian contestant) excitedily starts to eat one of her meals

Feeling overwhelmed after seeing all of the food, Chiara takes 2 bites and decides that she’s full.

Meanwhile the Bandmaid’s, being from North Gilead where the food is bland and strictly regulated, begin to stuff their mouths and devour the dishes.

Chiara glances at them and silently judges..

R.A. Mahran whispers "Is food outlawed over there or something?" into Chiara's ear.

Leonard Nachtnebel, the Vantierian contestant, arrives and sits next to the German contestants. Then, he asks the waiters very seriously if there are grilled babies on the menu. After seeing their reaction, he laughs and says he was joking.

Chiara says to Leonard, “you can have mine” then winks.

Leonard giggles, and smiles at Chiara. He then proceeds to chat with her, asking Chiara about her likings. Just like many Vants that have (or had, due to the Monkeypox epidemic in Vantier) the privilege of travelling abroad, he wants to know more about outsiders. And he seems to be rather interested in Chiara.

Worldvision Main Hall

The doors burst violently open, and the Sula delegation, led by a very drunk Éfil Iyuvos (Sula pop star), stumbles in.

An confused attendant steps forward cautiously: “Excuse me, sir, I don’t mean to be impolite, but, well, what are you doing here?”

Iyuvos: “For deh, uh, wassit, deh Worldo-visshun thing, y’know, like, songs n’ stuff…”

The attendant, visibly distressed, retrieves a tablet containing the registry: “Sir, May I have your name?”

Iyuvos looks up indignantly, surprised at not being recognized: “I-I’m the greatesht mu-music, uh, musician in Europe, Éfil Iyu-uvosh, obvioussleh…”

Attendant: “I’m sorry, sir, you don’t seem to have been registered.”

Iyuvos: “Whaddya mean registererert, I don’t have to do no registers-“ promptly vomits

The attendant, after calling for cleanup: “Yes, sir, all national delegations wishing to participate had to register, and very far in advance at that.”

Iyuvos: “Naw, yur lying, I know cuz like, last year, I didn’t have none of that registungering to do, no sir.”

Attendant: “Ah yes, you participated last year. We all remember that… Well, anyways, it’s always the government that registers for the musicians, and I believe your government had more pressing things to see to. I’m very sorry sir, but you can’t come in.”

Iyuvos, grabbing at the attendant’s collar but missing and holding onto his shoulder instead: “Now, yullisten here, d’yuh know how f-famous I am! Just lemmego in, I’ll, uh, like, buy you something, yeah, like, something real expensive, *hiccups* and I can go in, our little shecrert.”

Attendant: “Security!”

Iyuvos, this time succeeding in grabbing the collar: “Now lisshun t’me, if you don’t lemme in, I’ll, I’ll… aaahgh!” pulls back fist for a punch, but misses and spins onto the ground, is picked up by the security

Security guard: “Mr Iyuvos, we’re going to have to ask you to leave.”

Iyuvos: “You, you little-“ hand is put over his mouth and he’s dragged out, the delegation (which had remained strangely quiet) follows

The doors slam, and the attendant sits down and wipes his brow. Several onlookers hastily begin to post recordings.

Mahran posts the video on YouTube. The video goes viral.

After eating 2 bites of a delicious Indus meal, Chiara Cantara excuses herself and goes to her dressing room to start preparing for her performance.

Artist(s): Leonard Nachtnebel

Song: LinkAs Jy Hier Is

Role-Play:

Transcript of pre-performance interview with Leonard Nachtnebel - IBN Television International

[JUDGE] Our first performance is by Leonard Nachtnebel from Vantier - he'll be performing a song called "As Jy Hier Is" and we've got him here with us - Leonard, how are you feeling?

Leonard Nachtnebel:
I'm feeling fine, actually! I have the feeling the entire world will soon realize how good Vantierian music really is compared to theirs, so even if I don't win, at least I'll be glad I got the chance to represent my nation.

[JUDGE] Why did you choose to perform this particular song?

Leonard Nachtnebel:
Well, it is my most popular song and the one I like the most, so it was a pretty obvious choice for me. And for the government.

RP
[JUDGE 2] Thank you for speaking to us.

*The interview ends.*

[JUDGE] And now, the moment you've been waiting for (and the only reason you tuned in) - this is As Jy Hier Is!

*The crowd cheers as Nachtnebel steps on stage.*

*The lights dim.*

There are 4 people on stage: Nachtnebel, a drummer and a guitarist. Nachtnebel is wearing very casual clothes (a T-shirt and denim shorts). Both the drummer and the guitarist are wearing sunglasses and dark clothes.
Nachtnebel starts singing the song with a big smile on his face, sometimes winking at the camera. He does not dance, he behaves like he is trying to seduce the audience. Certain gestures, such as biting his lower lip after singing the verse "Nagte raak langer" (Nights get longer) or pointing his finger while winking at the camera when singing "Alles raak beter as jy hier is" (Everything gets better when you are here). He also turns his head while singing a verse, and moves his hips from time to time. Always with a smile on his face.

RP - Mahran and Shanwalkar's performance - WorldVision

The performance begins and is going well until the drummer drops his drumsticks 5 seconds into the song.

However, apart from this minor hiccup, the performance goes well, and the audience loves it.

Artist(s): Alexandra Ksandra Teläänii

Song: LinkSentimental

Role-Play:

Pre-performance interview with Alexandra Ksandra Teläänii of Sjevre - WORLDVISION

[JUDGE] Our next contestant is a woman named "Alexandra Ksandra..."

*He struggles to read Alexandra's last name.*

[JUDGE] Anyway, here she is!

*Alexandra appears.*

[JUDGE] So, what is your song about?

*she looks surpired after the presentor still manages to pronounce her name correctly after he was struggling when saying it*

Alexandra: The song is about the feeling of nostalgia, the blissful feeling that you hardly feel at all. The song itself is based on sentimental sounds: Soft and tender. Sentimentai means: a bit sad, but also nice feeling in Savraan.

[JUDGE] Do you often feel nostalgia for things?

Alexandra: Not so often, but now that they have been rebroadcasting many old shows in Sjevre in recent years I get nostalgic more often. I also got the inspiration for my song when I was watching such a show. They make me feel like I am a teenager again, all these nice memories come back, when I was for example watching this show with my friends when I was a kid. Such good times.

[JUDGE] It's been a pleasure talking to you, Alexandra, and we're excited for your performance. Thank you for speaking to us.

Alexandra steps on the podium. The music starts and she also begins to perform her act without any problems. However, about in the middle of the act, something happens that the organization feared. A spectator jumps on stage and crazily shouts "Alexandra I love you", luckily the guards are quickly present to take him off the stage, the hooligan didn't get off the stage easily, but eventually he gets driven away back stage.

Alexandra is distracted for a moment, but continues to sing. She occasionally missed eye contact with the cameras due to the incident. Apart from that she hits every note right.

Artist(s): The Silentband

Song: LinkAn Ode to Sulasburg

Role-Play:

Pre-performance interview with the Silent Band of Arkhangelsk-Vologda - WORLDVISION

[JUDGE] Now it's time for our next group of contestants - would you please welcome The Silent Band, from Arkhangelsk-Vologda!

*The audience claps when the Silent Band appear on the stage. The judge turns to them.*

[JUDGE] So, why have you decided to perform "Ode to Sulasburg"?

*the leader of the group think deeply*

"It was a meme in our group, it's not that we don't like Sulasburg, but Oruzia remains our favorite in their war. The idea was to jokingly make an ode to Sulasburg, because it remains a beautiful country in nature and culture, you should see it as a last memory of the beautiful country. There was no treason involved here. The country used to be super important, but it has fallen back into world politics. They are less relevant than they used to be, but it remains a nice holiday destination. So an ode to old Sulasburg who has..."

*the leader of the group gets suddenly stopped in the middle of a sentance by their manager*

"Just play your damn song!"

The silentband confidently walks on the podium. The lights dim, it even looks like the lights have gone out. But that's not, cause right when the first musical distress is played, lights start to shine only on the front man. He closes his eyes and continues to play smoothly and calmly. The people behind him now come into view as the cameras move closer. You can also see them enjoying the moment. The course of the song goes as planned, they are then thanked by a huge applause from the audience.

The frontman tries to shout "thank you", but the audience applauds too loudly, he can't hear himself anymore. So he doesn't say anything

Artist(s): Chiara Cántara

Song: LinkBailando Sin Ti (Dancing Without You)

Role-Play:

Pre-performance interview with Chiara Cántara of Potenzia - WORLDVISION

[JUDGE] Our next contestant is Chiara Cantara of Potenzia!

*She arrives on stage and the audience claps.*

[JUDGE] I notice your song is called "Dancing Without You" - why is that?

*wearing a shiny ‘royal Potenzian red’ dress, Chiara approaches the microphone to respond to the judge*

“This song specifically was written about a woman who is suffering from love, however she still finds a way to cope and enjoy herself.

With all of the jealousy, hate, negativity, and war happening in the world, I chose this song for WorldVision to show how the Potenzian people can still rise up and continue to enjoy life.

With uptempo club beats and a salsa twist, I feel this song perfectly displays the passion of the Potenzian people and the liveliness of our culture.”

After Chiara speaks with the judges, the curtains close and the lights dim.

When the curtains reopen, a band appears on stage and begins to play. As fog surrounds the stage, the audience can hear Chiara Cantará singing as she suddenly appears in a flash of smoke with the spotlight on her as she rises up from a secret lift under the stage. The LED screen behind the band displays various landmarks and the natural beauties of Potenzia. Backup dancers enter from both sides of the stage and fireworks and sparklers shoot from the front of the stage. The audience goes wild, with much of the crowd cheering and dancing along.

As the performance comes to the end, Chiara sing softly as she closes out the song. She ends with a dramatic pause and the audience begins clapping and screaming for an encore.

She smiles, thanks the crowd from the bottom of her heart and the curtains close.

Artist(s): The Bandmaid’s Tale

Song: LinkGilead Doesn't Own Me

Role-Play

Pre-performance interview with The Bandmaids of North Gilead - WORLDVISION

[JUDGE] Our next contestants are the Bandmaids of North Gilead!

*They appear on the stage*

[JUDGE] I believe you actually escaped from North Gilead to be here - how did you do that?

Handmaid 1: “After careful planning and making alliances with guards that were part of the resistance, we were able to escape as we were being transported between Commanders. We finally made it across the border into Campalia where we were able to seek refuge from the horrid country that calls themselves North Gilead.”

Handmaid 2: “For those listening, please help us find our children and help them escape. We beg of you.”

*Photos and names of their children appear on the screen behind them.”

*It is clear that the crowd is uncomfortable looking at these photos.*

[JUDGE] Where was the last place you saw them?

“When they were snatched from our wombs, weeks before we escaped. Our daughters will be almost 4 years old now and will soon be sent to wife school where they will be married off to men 5 times their age.”

*The crowd gives a mild gasp.*

[JUDGE] What gave you the idea to start a band?

”Our primary goal has to spread awareness of the abuse that women and children endure throughout North Gilead, to inspire people to take action, and be a symbol of hope for women still there. That’s why we will be performing our song called “Gilead Doesn’t Own Me.””

*The images of the children are displayed on the screen again, along with a phone number.*

*The judge addresses the studio audience, as well as the people watching at home.*

[JUDGE] If you have any information about the whereabouts of these children, please contact this number. Your call should cost no more than 8 libero cents per minute.

*The images of the children are taken off the screen.*

[JUDGE] You may now perform.

RP:

Appearing on stage in red gowns and white bonnets, the traditional handmaid attire of North Gilead, The Bandmaid’s Tale begins to perform.

The lead singer says, “this song goes out to all the women who ever felt controlled by a man.”

Playing various instruments on the stage, they begin to sing and perform. When the song gets to the bridge, the Bandmaid’s rip off their red gowns and bonnets, letting their hair down and revealing a red lingerie-styled outfit. The crowd goes wild.

The song comes to an end, the Bandmaid’s stick up their middle fingers and scream “Screw the patriarchy and anyone who thinks they own us!”

*crowd cheers*

Feeling embarrassed after seeing the live broadcast of the performance, the government of North Gilead has begun damage control of their public image and have doubled the reward for the capture and return of these women.

Artist(s): DJ Retasu

Song: LinkBattle March Saga 4

Role-Play:

Pre performance interview with DJ Retasu of Madrinpoor - WORLDVISION

[JUDGE] Our next performance is by DJ Retasu of Madrinpoor - could you please give him a warm welcome!

*He appears on stage*

[JUDGE] So, what is Battle March Saga 4 about, and what inspired you to make it?

DJ Retasu is full of swagger. He is jittery and wearing a snapback with $600 sweatpants and an artistically redesigned jersey from Madrinpoor's top baseball team. He sports a massive gold chain and an oversize watch, and of course his own partnership shoes with Nike SB.

[DJ RETASU] Yeah, sup b. T.H.X. for havin' me here today, man, it's a great honor. I just want people to discover my music, you know, cause it's fire. It's straight fire! I'm the best underground DJ/trapper in Madrinpoor dawg. And, y'know, since I'm so underground, not many people outside the city have discovered me yet. And my music is straight feelings, yo. It's inspiring. I get inspired by my own music. I cry sometimes. I think "Poke Run 2am" is my saddest song. It makes my homies cry. And they don't never cry bruh! "Poke Run 2am" is about being hungry, and longing, and loneliness, and women. Most of my songs are about women. I ain't no feminist though. Don't go spreading that. That could hurt my rep, b! Nah, but ain't nobody cryin' over "Battle March Saga 4" cause it inn't sad, it's inspirational and makes you want to dance. I'll be emceeing up somewhere like West Beach or Baraku island which got lit party scenes, and everybody'll be wildin' in a basement and then all of a sudden the music seems like it stops — but there's a faint high hat, and then the hat gets a little louder, and then before you know it the synth comes in yo, and everybody starts screamin' — "aaah, aaah" cause they so excited for "Battle March Saga 4"! BMS4 broke boundaries dawg. It showed people new things that could be possible with music. I think I sample 214 different other songs in the 14 minute run time. If I remember correctly. BMS4 is about samurais getting ready to go to war. And they scared, but then the lead samurai comes in and explains why they shouldn't be scared and then they get pumped up! It's a metaphor for real life too, cause sometimes we scared to do things but just listen to "Battle March Saga 4" and it gets you hyped. I listen to it before pickup bball sometimes. My favorite part is the end of the song which is the battle, but it's actually the dance break. So it's a bass kick, and the perc is going off wicked fast so it sounds like gunfire, and then there's a clash with metal sometimes cause, like, the samurais have swords, and there is people screaming sometimes, and, yo, if you haven't heard it already turn this interview off and go listen to it. It will change. Your. Life. I'm serious bruh."

DJ Retasu takes a long sip of water.

I was inspired to make it cause one time my crew and I were at this ramen bar on Tonnka Street in the Spice District, which is, like, the hood, if you don't know nothing about Madrinpoor — we were just chillin', eating ramen and whatever....then some cats came up to us wit like, t-ball bats and those planks of wood with a nail in them. And we was like — "oh naw...we about to get mugged!" And those spicers* wanted to throw down, and my homies were ready to throw down, but I stopped them both and I said — "we need to get hyped before we do this" and everybody agreed. So we started doing a rap battle to energize our own side and destroy theirs psychologically — and, you know, I can rap like crazy cause it's my job, man, but these guys we was up against were poppin' off too...and I was like, "hold up" — so instead of fighting each other we decided to collab and make "Battle March Saga 4". So my crew and the other crew are the samurais in the background. Each of them got a verse. And we didn't end up fighting after all, and they some cool cats too. Violence is never the first answer, dawg.

_

*spicer is derogatory Madrinpoor street slang for someone poor, working class, or who lives in the "hood" in east Madrinpoor, but it's sometimes used as a generally pejorative term, especially for Korean, Taiwanese, Chinese, or Southeast Asian immigrants. Poor urban youth in Madrinpoor who live in the "projects" often refer to each other as "spicer" as a term of endearment.

[JUDGE] You mentioned that you sampled 214 other songs - were they your own, or where they other people's songs? If they were other people's, how long did it take to secure licensing agreements for 214 different artists?

[DJ RETASU] Yo, well, you gotta remember I'm a DJ, right. I cut up songs and mix them together with my own stuff. And I'm a big artist, yo, everyone wants to be on a DJ Retasu joint. But I give all credit to Kenichiro, man. He's my agent. Real G. He came to my studio one day and he gave me a notepad full of songs and artists and he told me to go wild, so I did, yo! I put all of them into my song. Only two were mine, I think. One was the line from that single "STREET MEAT" where I'm pumpin' up my jits to go rumble — that got me on the scene, dawg, that song blew up and it got me known, so I had to pay tribute to it, you know. The other was from "Post Upp (feat. M-Flo)" cause that song's fire.

*The judge is unsure what many of these words mean.*

[JUDGE]...right. Well, you may now perform.
