Shanghai Falls to Rebel Forces as Civil War Rages On

Shanghai has now re-aligned itself with the democratic forces as defector People's Liberation Army soldiers join the Army of East Asia

The City of Shanghai, China's Economic Capital, is Now Standing in Opposition to the Chinese Government

The world was shocked this morning when it was announced Shanghai's mayor Gong Zheng had been assassinated and the municipal government of the city was seized by rebel forces. The city now proudly declares itself a part of the East Asian Alliance.

This comes after many People's Liberation Army soldiers threw down their weapons in a sign of solidarity with the Democratic rebellion spreading across the country, finally feeling brave enough to stand against the Chinese government as it failed to hold ground over the previous week.

As more soldiers switched sides it quickly became clear China's hold over the city was quickly loosening. Now those that remain loyal to the CCP are either fleeing the city or being held prisoner by the uprising forces. Many speculate China will be quick to retaliate and attempt to take back the city as the city holds major value to them, as the economic capital of the country.

Elsewhere in the nation, China has already started to push back against the rebelling factions. It was announced on Wednesday by President Xi Jingping that the remaining 670,000 PLA reserves would be deployed in order to put an end to what he called, terrorist movements attempting to destroy China's integrity for their own personal gain. This means the CCP's army now stands at over 3 million men, something that has reportedly dampened morale within the East Asian Democratic Alliance controlled areas.

Miss Lifen gave a rallying speech following Xi's announcement, telling the forces not to give up and not to give in to what she saw as another scare tactic by the Communist Party.

Despite her attempts to urge her troops forward, the People's Republic of China has begun to regain some of its lost territory and has regained control of parts of the provinces of Guangdong and Fujian, PLA troops are also currently moving in on Urumqi, hoping to take the Uyghur capital and force a surrender.

Thursday saw Chinese troops land on the island of Taiwan, finally invading after decades of preparation. The PLA quickly seized Keelung City and is putting pressure on the nearby capital city of Taipei. In response Taiwan urged the EADA to land troops in Hainan, donating some of the Republic of China Armed Forces' troops to the effort. Democratic forces currently hold the north of the island, including the city of Haikou.

Reports show China's casualty rate has dropped significantly, whilst campaigns in Xinjiang, Fujian, Guangdong, Hainan and Taiwan have seen democratic casualties rise. Could this be a sign China was merely biding its time and has a plan to end the Civil War swiftly and with brute force?

On Tuesday President Biden announced he was placing sanctions against China and its allies, though he failed to mention any plans to do the same for companies operating within the country. As of yesterday similar sanctions are now in place from both Australia and the UK, who have been critical of China for many years now and had even been cutting back trade with the nation as of earlier this year. With these sanctions in place the two nations have suspended almost all trade with the nation, but continue to provide supplies to the democratic forces. Prime Ministers Scott Morrison and Boris Johnson met in Perth on Tuesday to discuss their plans, both released statements that criticised both China and the US, stating that they would be placing sanctions against companies operating within China.

As all this continues raging on, more refugees have now fled their homeland, with Vietnam now reporting over 1 million Chinese citizens having recently entered its border. The United Kingdom lifted restrictions on refugees coming from China, opening its borders to anyone holding a Chinese passport, though this was not without hesitation within Parliament and has already sparked protests across London. Despite the outrage it is speculated refugee numbers within the UK are still within the hundreds.
