National Summary

The Democratic Republic of United States of Masland is a large, safe nation, notable for its keen interest in outer space, and irreverence towards religion. The hard-nosed, hard-working, population of 278 million Maslandians enjoy a sensible mix of personal and economic freedoms, while the political process is open and the people's right to vote held sacrosanct.

The relatively small government juggles the competing demands of Law & Order, Education, Healthcare, and Defense. The average income tax rate is 14.1%, but higher for the wealthy.

The strong Maslandian economy, worth 6.69 trillion dollars a year, is broadly diversified and led by the Cheese Exports industry, with major contributions from Agriculture, Book Publishing, and Automobile Manufacturing. Average income is 68,997 dollars, and evenly distributed, with the richest citizens earning only 2.8 times as much as the poorest. United States of Masland's national animal is the falcon, which soars majestically through the nation's famously clear skies.

Masland is one of the youngest countries in the world, and is already on its way to become if not the best, one of the best countries based on Economy, Military, Education, Healthcare, and Safety. Masland has a lot of potential and follows closely in Americas footsteps.

History

Masland was discovered on March 24th, 1938 by American explorer Joseph Hughes and his crew. While sailing to Hawaii Hughes found a much larger island north of the Hawaiian chain of islands. The United States sent colonizers to colonize Masland which they discovered had no native people. The first sign of life the colonizers found were three falcons flying over head. On August 7th, 1986 The people living in Masland wanted to break away from the American government and start their own. To avoid another Revolutionary War in the middle of The Cold War with Russia, the American government agreed to let Masland become its own country, and thus the Democratic Republic of the United States of Masland was formed.

The reason the Maslandians wanted to break away from the United States was that after 48 years of being an American territory they had no representation in American government, and no say in what was going on in their land. The people of Masland wanted to be independent, and form their own government after they had decided that the ways of the American government no longer worked for them. Masland adopted many ideas from America including its form of government and its monetary system.

Government

The United States of Masland is considered a Democratic Republic which is broken down into three branches of government to make sure all aspects of the government are working for the betterment of the country. The three branches are the Executive Branch, the Legislative Branch, and the Judicial Branch. Having the three Branches ensures that no one Branch has more power than the others, and therefore are all of equal power.

Executive Branch
The Executive Branch of Masland government consists of the President, the Vice President, the Executive Chief of Staff, and the President's Administrators. There are 12 Administrators excluding the Vice President and Chief of Staff, The State Administrator, The Treasury Administrator, The Defense Administrator, The Justice Administrator, The Environmental and Cultural Administrator, The Agriculture Administrator, The Commerce and Trade Administrator, The Labor Administrator, The Health Services Administrator The Infrastructure Administrator, The Education Administrator, and The Homeland Security Administrator. These people are responsible for enforcing laws. Although laws are passed by Congress, the Executive Branch decide which ones are most important to enforce—and how to do so. The president also appoints federal judges and nominates people for open seats on the Supreme Court. The president’s choices for both judges and Administrators must be approved by the Senate. The Administrators and independent federal agencies are responsible for the day-to-day enforcement and administration of federal laws.

The President of Masland's main job is to oversee the federal government. The power of the Executive Branch is vested in the President, who also acts as head of state and Commander-in-Chief of the armed forces. The President is responsible for implementing and enforcing the laws written by Congress and, appoints the heads of the federal agencies, including their Administrators. The President has the power either to sign legislation into law or to veto bills enacted by Congress, although Congress may override a veto with a two-thirds vote of both houses. The President has the power to negotiate and sign treaties, which the Senate ratifies. The President can issue executive orders, which direct executive officers or clarify and further existing laws. The President also has the power to extend pardons and clemencies for federal crimes. The President chooses a Vice President, and 12 Administrators for each government agency. The President can serve a maximum of 4 two year terms.

The Vice President of Masland's primary responsibility is to be ready at a moment’s notice to assume the Presidency if the President is unable to perform his or her duties. This can be because of the President’s death, resignation, or temporary incapacitation, or if the Vice President and a majority of the Administrators judge that the President is no longer able to discharge the duties of the presidency. The Vice President is elected along with the President by the Electoral College.

The Executive Chief of Staff is responsible for directing, managing and overseeing all policy development, daily operations, and staff activities for the President. This office coordinates and communicates with all departments and agencies of the Administration.

The State Administrator leads Masland's foreign policy through diplomacy, advocacy, and assistance by advancing the interests of the Maslandian people, their safety, and economic prosperity.

The Treasury Administrator manages Federal finances by collecting taxes and paying bills and by managing currency, government accounts and public debt. The Treasury Ambassador also enforces finance and tax laws.

The Defense Administrator is responsible for providing the military forces needed to deter war and protect the security of Masland. The major elements of these forces are the Army, Navy, Marines, and Air Force, consisting of about 900,000 men and women on active duty.

The Agriculture Administrator provides leadership on food, agriculture, natural resources, rural development, nutrition, and related issues based on sound public policy, the best available science, and efficient management.

The Commerce Administrator promotes job creation and economic growth by ensuring fair trade, providing the data necessary to support commerce and constitutional democracy, and fostering innovation by setting standards and conducting foundational research and development.

The Labor Administrators job is to foster, promote, and develop the welfare of the wages earned, job seekers, and retirees of Masland; improve working conditions; advance opportunities for profitable employment; and assure work related benefits and rights.

The Health Services Administrator oversees the enhancement of the health and well-being of all Maslandians, by providing for effective health and human services and by fostering sound, sustained advances in the sciences underlying medicine, public health, and social services.

The Infrastructure Administrator administers programs that provide housing and community development assistance. They also work to ensure fair and equal housing opportunities for all. They also must develop regional and strategic planning policies, and transport strategy and sustainable public transport policies.

The Education Administrator oversees the establishment of policies for, and administers and coordinates most federal assistance to education. It assists the president in executing their education policies for the nation and in implementing education laws enacted by Congress.
