New Lundus Infantry and Small Arms

The New Lundus military is but a shadow of its former self. Unable to maintain the logistics necessary for a modern-day army, they have been forced to go back to the drawing board, and have had to reevaluate the way that they make warfare. With an improvised arsenal of surplus, antiquated and improvised weapons, they now seek to reclaim the wastes, and to defend New Lundus from any and all threats:

Description

Peacekeepers

Peacekeepers are essentially conscripts who have been pressed into service in defense of their country. They are required to don NBC protection at all times, as the outside environment is too hazardous and toxic without such protective equipment in place.

Rangers

The elite forces of the Lundus army, rangers are a fearsome foe, outfitted in their distinctive "black kit". They are trained to traverse the ruins of Aetherea with ease and are experts in the art of urban warfare and long-term survival.

Dog's Gas Mask

Like their human counterparts, dogs are unable to breathe the toxic surface air, forcing them to also don gas masks. Unable to bite or smell, they nonetheless still have several uses:

-Sentry Dog: Alerts handlers to potential threats by barking and growling. Can knock down enemies by colliding into them.
-Medical Dogs: Carry medical equipment for combat medics, and follow them when they go operate on the battlefield.
-Messenger Dogs: Quick and agile, they carry important messages when the terrain is too rough or impassable for other means.
-Scout Dogs: Quiet and stealthy, they use their excellent hearing to pinpoint enemy troops, pointing at them with their tails.

Assault Rifle

The assault rifle is among the most versatile of all small arms. Jack of all trades, master of none, a trained shooter can effectively use the weapon to protect both himself and his squadmates in a variety of different scenarios. This particular example has two modifications to it:

-A flashlight that has been hose clamped and bolt to the front grip of the weapon
-A magazine that is duct-taped to a second magazine, "jungle style".

Ranger SMG

These weapons had been manufactured pre-collapse, as their expensive origins might suggest. Nonetheless, they are highly reliable and accurate and are only issued out to the Lundus Rangers due to their immense cost and scarcity. These examples also have flashlights bolted to the weapon, although in this case, they are on top rather than the bottom. A select few are integrally silenced, as can be seen in the previous photo.

An interesting device developed for this firearm is the Hensoldt Device, a combination of flashlight and aiming device. It projects a beam of light with a crosshair on it. It is less powerful than a purpose built flashlight and not as accurate as an aiming device but it does both of their jobs at once.

Grease Gun

An Linkantiquated Sub-Machine Gun, the Grease Gun was nearing nearly 70 years of age in the New Lundus defense forces. It was in the process of being phased out until the great calamity struck. Absurdly cheap, and quick to make, they were instead reissued and modernized with the addition of a top rail for optics. Strangely, these weapons also come integrally silenced.

Owen Gun

While rather crude and haphazardous looking, the Owen Gun is a highly rugged weapon, capable of surviving terrible abuse. Created by an enterprising Peacekeeper named Michael Owens, these sub-machine guns are highly popular amongst the troops, and much like the Grease Gun, are quite simple and easy to produce. And yes, they also come integrally silenced.

Trench Gun

Shotguns have seen increased usage since the collapse, being very powerful and useful for stopping targets at close range. They are often used to open doors that have been rusted or locked shut, as they are powerful enough to blow locks off their frames. This example has a flashlight duct-taped to it, while other examples are cut down and referred to as "sawn off".

KS-23

The KS-23 started life as a 23mm autocannon barrel, one that had manufacturing defects in it. While this meant it was unable to be used in its designated role, it could still easily handle lower pressure shotgun shells. The weapon's 23mm caliber is retained, translating into roughly 4 gauge. It is capable of firing both buckshot and slugs, and is immensely destructive against just about anything it hits, although the weapon's measly 4 round capacity and heavy recoil limit its use among New Lundian forces.

Madsen MG

The first Madsen MG was produced all the way back in 1900, with the Lundus government buying a huge number of them at the time as they were fairly cheap. They were adapted to fire modern ammunition in the 1960s and 1970s and have been in storage since about the early 2000s, a true testament to their exceptional reliability. After the great calamity, they were brought back into service and were reproduced.

They have been modified with a vertical front grip or are wrapped around the barrel in duct tape to make holding the weapon more comfortable, and their actual barrels have been shortened.

Light Machine Gun

With a very simple yet effective design, these light machine guns can be rapidly assembled for very little cost. They can equip either a stick magazine or a pan magazine for more sustained firepower, although such pan magazines do very occasionally have feeding issues.

While most have been assembled in this configuration, a rare few are adapted to be belt fed, although they are far more cumbersome then their stick or pan magazine fed counterparts. They can be converted back to their original configurations if ammunition is particularly scarce.

Sniper Rifle

Bolt action rifles are the sniper rifle of choice for New Lundus, due to their ruggedness and reliability. Pre-calamity hunting rifles are the first choice, but New Lundus does produce its own examples, which have been stripped down and simplified for mass production.

In addition to its locally built rifles, New Lundus also makes suppressors for them, by Linkreusing old oil can or oil filter car parts and adapting them to fit onto the rifle barrels.

Anti-Material Rifle

Dedicated anti-armor weaponry was prohibitively expensive to produce after the great calamity, a single missile costing the same amount as an armored fighting vehicle. Thus, New Lundus began manufacturing single shot, anti-material rifles as a stopgap measure. Of course, their simplicity and reliability meant that they never went out of production, and are devastatingly effective against the many improvised and light vehicles still roaming Aethera. Some examples are used as ad hoc sniper rifles.

Rocket Launcher

Perhaps one of the most ingenious instances of Link"home grown" weapons, the Rocket Launcher is not quite as simple as it seems. Ostensibly a metal pipe adapted to fire rockets, this weapon happens to have a few tricks up its sleeves.

The projectiles it fires aren't purpose built rockets but rather tin cans packed with explosive powder. A tin can is taken, filled with some sort of explosive and possibly bits of metal for shrapnel, and then attached to a crude tail fin to create a pseudo-rocket. When capped off, the tin can acts as a shaped charge.

Black powder is loaded into the weapon to act as a propellent, along with cookie packages wrapped in cloth. These cloth wrapped cookie packages act as a counter shot, allowing the weapon to function like a recoiless rifle, reducing both felt recoil and backblast. These weapons are often called "Cookie Launchers".

Hi-Power

The weapons name does not refer to its caliber, rather, it is instead a reference to the weapons magazine capacity: 13 rounds in all. It is a rugged and reliable, albeit somewhat unremarkable, design.

President Dante Black owns a heavily modified version of this weapon, one that is completely covered in gold plating. Beautifully engraved, such a piece is highly sought after by his many rivals and enemies, and the president is known to keep the weapon on him at all times.
