Douglas James MacArthur (1880-1985) was an American politician and general who served as the 35th President of the United States from 1953 to 1961. He previously served as a 5-star general in the US Army, and the third President to be elected without any prior political service, after George Washington and Ulysses S Grant. As President, MacArthur championed a policy of strong anti-communism, defeating the North Koreans during the Korean War (1950-1954) and the North Vietnamese during the Vietnam War (1955-1957). MacArthur also annexed the Central American Union in 1953, thus giving the US full control of North America.

MacArthur's Presidency is also famous for his rebuilding of many war-torn nations, such as Korea and Vietnam, turning them into functional democracies similar to the Pacific States of Japan, which he had built during his occupation of Japan (1945-1950).
