The Philippine Air Force 33rd Air Division, 43rd Tactical Fighter Squadron "Manalo", and formerly the 8th Air Division, 43rd Tactical Fighter Squadron, also reffered to as Manalo Squadron, is a Philippine Air Force unit currently assigned to Air Forces Africa (MAJCOM). It operates four Sukhoi Su-37K Sea Terminator aircraft, which replaced the unit's old Sukhoi Su-33 Sea Flanker when it was reactivated in 2017. The 33d AD, 43d TFS primarily conducts air superiority, strike, and close air support missions.

The squadron was first activated in 2006 as the Philippine Air Force expanded after President Ernesto Manalastas proceeded with his military expansion program. The squadron served in the Great Fish War, where it earned the Presidential Unit Citation, the Recognition Ribbon, the Purple Heart, and the Fish War Service Medal. The squadron was reactivated in early 2017 as a two man flight and was first trained. In the midst of their training the Battle of Marawi was instigated by the Islamic State and the new squadron proved its worth in battle, providing close air support and enforcing air superiority in the city. It also served in the Circum-Pacific War, the Weenusiwanian Civil War, IC-IF's deployments in Weenusiwania, and most recently the Tarugan Emergency. The new roster has earned the Meritorious Unit Award, Air Force Distinguished Service, Heroes of Marawi Medal, Circum-Pacific War Service Medal, Prisoner of War Medal, and the Purple Heart.

Mission

Conduct air-to-air and air-to-ground operations for daylight and nighttime missions.

History

Hawaiian training exercises

On June 19, 2006 the 43rd Tactical Fighter Squadron was established and became part of the Pacific Air Forces's 8th Air Division. They would regularly do training exercises at various air bases around the Pacific, most frequently at Mactan AFB and JB Pearl Harbor-Hatague. They are usually pitted against the division's much older and veteran squadron, the Sorcerer and Wizard Squadrons. Nothing much would happen during this period of relative peace wherein Captain Grass and his squadron would just conduct various exercises. There were however two incidents, one of which was mundane, the other nearly killing the flight lead.

. "WHO ******* FILLED MY COCKPIT WITH ******* WATER?!"
. ― Capt. Grass, during the start of the exercise

Prior to August 26, 2007 Captain Grass was seen in a state of dehydration by Niρo. Niρo then proceeded to do the most sensible thing and that is to fill up Grass's cockpit with water. Captain Grass would board his Su-33 for the training exercise, not realizing that his cockpit was filled with water. He only noticed it when the training was starting. Despite this handicap he managed to down all twelve training drones with ease. The other incident involved Captain Grass bringing a surplus of cheese flavored chips onto his plane for a long training exercise. This would cause his cockpit to be filled up with immense amounts of cheese which caused his altimeter to fail. The cleanup and repair crew later had to service his aircraft until midnight.

On March 25, 2008 an incident would occur in which several armed aircraft would open fire on the friendly squadron. Manalo Squadron would hold off the opposing forces and would later retreat, but not before Manalo 2 "Gaguilar" would be downed by a fighter. He was presumed killed in action.

Early engagements

Despite suffering a single casualty, Captain Grass was still eager to go to war against the sentient fishes who shot down his wingman to avenge him. After the attack on Hawaii by the Fishes and the subsequent capture of their HQ, Pearl Harbor-Hatague, they would evacuate to the Philippines and would be stationed at Villamor Air Base. The Fish would try to establish several beachheads but they would always triumph over the Fish and maintain air superiority, thus securing the Philippines.

Allied counteroffensive

. "Narinig ko meron mga mersenaryo dito."
. "Oo, at ang lakas nila pre."

. ― Capt. Capus and Maj. Grass respectively

On April 24, Manalo Squadron was reassigned to directly support Garmr Team so they could learn while fighting. They participated in the Allies' three-pronged effort to retake the Renofaria Canal, dubbed "Offensive Campaign No. 4101". During the engagement, Manalo Squadron would fight alongside Garmr Team, to inflict considerable damage to the Fish's ground and naval forces and successfully escorted the 7th Philippine Naval Fleet through the canal. The considerable sum of money that Garmr 1 Zero earned during the campaign caused his wingman Pyske to cheekily remark that "drinks [were] on [Zero]" that evening.

Almost two weeks later, on May 12, Manalo supported the Philippine Army's successful effort to liberate the town of Vaitape near the Polynesian capital, Papeete. The following day, May 13, Manalo Squadron took part in the capital's liberation by weakening the occupying Fish forces' defensive capabilities. Despite Gelb Team's effort to reclaim air superiority, Garmr Team with little assistance from Manalo Squadron shot down the Fishy aces and secured the airspace above the capital.

Through the end of May, Manalo Squadron continued to do sorties alongside the Garmr Team to secure a number of decisive victories for the Allies, including breaking the Fish's defensive Hydrian line (May 17); eliminating the Fish's second defensive line around the East Pacific (May 19); and destroying the powerful chemical-laser weapon Excalibur (May 23). These successive victories propelled the Allies' advance further into Hawaii.

Battle hardened

. "Why did high command even send us here?!"
. "Obviously, so I can increase my kill count."

. ― 2d Lt. De los Reyes and Maj. Grass conversing about Operation Battle-Axe

On May 28, Manalo Squadron was sent to Point Nemo to engage the Fish defenders as part of Operation Battle-Axe. They were initially winning with the element of surprise, but soon the Fishy pilots strongly rebounded, and the battle soon tipped into the Fish's favor. The squadron would almost get shot down by Clownfish Team, but Garmr arrived to turn the tide of the battle, which saved Manalo Squadron. Allied radio chatter quickly changed from dire requests for assistance to praise and admiration of Garmr's combat abilities. As the aerial battle unfolded, and the Allied pilots witnessed Zero's unmatched dogfighting skills, they bestowed him with the nickname "Demon Lord of the Round Table". After Garmr Team shot down the last enemy ace squadron, the Allies claimed victory in Point Nemo, effectively ending the Fishy Air Force's long-standing superiority in the region.

Four days later, on June 1, Manalo Squadron and Garmr Team supported an Allied bombing campaign in R'lyeh, a key manufacturing center for the Fish Army. During the operation, they both provided close air support to the Allied bombers, eliminated the Fishies' anti-aircraft defenses, and inflicted extensive damage to the city's manufacturing facilities. What began as a precision bombing strike, however, quickly devolved into a saturation bombing. The callous nature of the attack left a lasting impression on Captain Grass, who saw what really happens in a grand war, he gets slightly depressed realizing he helped commit a war crime. Pyske gradually became more and more disaffected by the Allies' relentless tactics.

On June 6, Manalo Squadron and Garmr Team were dispatched to assist the Allied ground troops laying siege to Rapa Nui. When AWACS Eagle Eye reported that a squadron of Fish bombers carrying nuclear payloads had taken off for Polynesia, Manalo Squadron and Garmr Team immediately changed course to intercept them. Although they successfully shot down the bombers, seven nuclear weapons detonated along the Patagonia Ridge, killing thousands of Fish civilians. Powerful electromagnetic interference from the nuclear blasts forced Manalo Squadron to withdraw from the area. In the ensuing chaos, Garmr Team's number two, Larry Foulke, deserted and was listed as MIA.

End of the Fish War

The capitulation of the Fish took place on the evening June 19, 1995 in a formal ceremony at the Atlantic Fishy city of Sargasso. During the event, a force of soldiers and mercenaries from the Philippines and Polynesia, including Manalo Squadron and Garmr, flew to Central Fishy States to carry out Operation Broom, a secret mission to suppress a rebel force in the town of Bass, in the vicinity of New Innsmouth. The ceremony, which was televised by reporters from across the world, greatly favored the Coalition. The Fishy States the Fishies dreamed of forming was dismantled and made into a UN Mandate but Fishy Rence was allowed to retain his position in the new government.

Although the Fish War was over the squadron would still have one last mission relating to the war. The missing mercenaries from Blackwater were found in New Innsmouth, the Fishy capital. Two days after its founding, the Cormorant Pact would launch Operation Safe Return to rescue the missing personnel. One of the mercenaries rescued was Tomithy Otsutsuki, the future and last Hokage of Weenusiwania. Manalo Squadron provided air support to the Spheres Brigade in order for them to rescue the mercenaries safely. [placeholder text for other information we haven't rp'd yet]

After the war the squadron would go back to their usual schedule of exercises, albeit they were better pilots, and had lost their comedic relief. The squadron would be deactivated on January 26, 2010 when most of the members would resign and move on from the military. The group of friends would all go on their separate ways afterwards.

Reactivation

On the 23rd of May, 2017, the Marawi Siege would be instigated by local terrorists Maute and Abu Sayyaf Salafi jihadist groups. Sir Grass would reactivate some old squadrons during this time, namely his old squadron which was re-designated as the 124th Tactical Fighter Squadron. Initially a squadron of two, Jacqueline and Noah would provide close air support for the Philippine Army. They would also fend off against hostile squadrons, with Jacqueline earning 3 kills and Noah getting 1 kill. After the war they would be awarded with the Meritorious Unit Award, Air Force Distinguished Service, and the Heroes of Marawi Medal. After the siege was over they would be reassigned back to the Pacific Air Forces and would be headquartered at JB Pearl Harbor-Hatague.

Circum-Pacific War

On the onset of the Circum-Pacific War, Manalo Squadron, now a team of four, would mostly intercept Cayenne Minori naval assets headed towards the Philippines. They assisted in the Cordillera offensive, accumulating a total of 23 kills. During the Battle of the Celebes Sea, the squadron was armed with experimental tactical laser systems, which they would use to easily sink ships and down enemy craft. Manalo 2 | Switchblade would be hit on his vertical stabilizer by a Minori vessel during the engagement and was forced to RTB.

During the joint Philippine and Santruvian offensives to invade the Cayenne Minori mainland, they would be initially assigned to assist the Santruvian forces in its invasion of Antofagasta and Nevisbury. However before the plans were finalized they were reassigned to assist on the eastern front instead. They would soften up the coastal defenses along with the Wardog Squadron. Afterwards they would often find themselves accompanied by Wardog Squadron, who taught them how to fly better. They also assisted in the capture of Salto fortress. When Wardog Squadron was deemed as traitors and confirmed K.I.A. over the Pacific Ocean Manalo Squadron would take over as the main squadron assisting on the frontlines.

Bluejay encounter

. "P*****ina, ang lapit ko na siya mapatay!"
. ― Manalo 2, moments before being shot down.

On December 11, Manalo Squadron would be assigned to assist an offensive by Philippine and Santruvian forces in the La Plata basin. However, while the forces were advancing Bluejay Team would show up and inflict heavy losses. AWACS Singularity and Manalo 1 would order a retreat on all air units but Manalo 2 and Manalo 3 would stay behind to fight back. They would inflict considerable damage to one of Bluejay's F-23's but not before Manalo 3 would be critically damaged. Manalo 3 would retreat from the AO but Manalo 2 stayed. He was shot down but he safely ejected and was taken as a POW.

When the war ended after the Manila Conference of December 30, the squadron sighed in relief as Manalo 2 was released and the two nations didn't have to fight each other anymore. The squadron would be awarded the Circum-Pacific War Medal and another Meritorious Unit Award and Air Force Distinguished Service. Manalo 2 was also awarded the Prisoner of War Medal, and the Purple Heart.

Assignment to Africa

On the 22nd of January, 2021, after the Circum-Pacific War, Manalo Squadron would be reassigned to the 33rd Air Division under Air Forces Africa due to the breakout of the Weenusiwanian Civil War. They were tasked to provide close air support to the North. On one occasion the South would try to stop them with a large flight of MiG-21 Fishbeds and F-4 Phantoms. A large air battle took place and the small squadron would triumph over the numerous hostiles.

On the 17th of March, 2021, Manalo Squadron would be deployed to bomb Tomithy's house with intel that the Grubhub Guy is somewhere deep within the house's many floors. They would be deployed alongside several other squadrons and the Marines to bomb the house to kill the Grubhub guy. AWACS Singularity would provide the air units with valuable intel by displaying various things on their HUD.

As Manalo Squadron approached the AO they all went into dismay upon realizing that the Grubhub guy was in fact well underground. Manalo 4 and 2 would race into the tunnel and bomb various floors. As they were about to exit the AO, Tomithy, with the powers of his house, would resummon the Grubhub guy on a floor in his house. The marines would capture him but Grubhub guy retaliates with his powers and surfaces. A massive fight would ensue above ground. Manalo Squadron would do several bombing runs on the Grubhub guy. Manalo 1 would get the last hit and kill Grubhub guy.

. "Well that's a bunch of bull****"
. ― Manalo 2, commenting on Tomithy's plot armor.

After the house engagement they were tasked with providing support to IC-IF forces. Their first assignment was to chase down Tomithy, currently evading arrest. Prior to Manalo's pursuit of Tomithy in the Namibian desert there was a board meeting in Sunagakure, Weenusiwania. Tomithy was there but near the end of the board meeting he would kill everyone in the room, presumably due to the fact that the UN representative accidentally insulted him while taking about pressing matters. Ground forces were deployed to the board meeting to capture Tomithy and put him on trial but Tomithy instead of facing his crimes ran away into an alleyway. AWACS Singularity and Lakandula Squadron were in the AO in case of a sudden attack from Tomithy commanding his forces but the Hokage only ran. AWACS Singularity continued to designate him on friendly radar so that the IC-IF wouldn't lose him if he were to hide. Lakandula Squadron would later be joined by Inferno Squadron while tracking down Tomithy around 8 klicks south of Sunagakure. His location was briefly unknown due to AWACS Singularity having to conduct mid-flight refueling but was later rediscovered thanks to Josh. Inferno Squadron would attempt to drop a Fuel-Air Explosive Bomb but ultimately didn't because of the collateral damage it would inflict.

Later Manalo Squadron would take over Lakandula and Inferno Squadron's shift so they can return to base. They pursued Tomithy in the Namibian desert as a Grand Tour episode was being filmed. The squadron would fire several STDM-01's on Tomithy but it ultimately didn't hit as he wasn't emitting enough heat to be tracked. After a while, some friendly ground forces would show up, but in actuality the ground forces were Weenusiwanian PMC's with intent to save the Hokage. The Hokage boarded one of the military trucks in an attempt to escape, the squadron was given permission to open fire and fired missiles at the truck, which for some odd reason didn't hit.[?] Tomithy then got on a motorcycle and escaped from the truck to outrun the squadron, after that the missile would finally hit the truck.[?] The squadron continued pursuit in the desert and continued to fire missiles at Tomithy, which also did not hit[?], it was only after they fired AGM that Tomithy was hit.[?] The squadron maintained formation, securing Tomithy for friendly ground forces but Josh entered the AO and would proceed to eat Tomithy. Seeing no way of retrieving the wanted terrorist they returned to base. After the pursuit was over the Lord of TimeTM confiscated Tomithy's one hundred twenty small personal spheres for violation of the Law of Physics.

After the chase Manalo Squadron were redesignated to support CAS planes throughout the conflict. Five days later during the ending of the conflict they were deployed to once again support CAS planes in the Sunagakure Offensive. Manalo Squadron fought alongside squadrons from the 33rd Air Division to maintain air superiority in the city. They were challenged with several flights of MiG-21s, F-14s, and F-15s. After maintaining air superiority for a while Weenusiwanian United Air Force aces showed up in the AO. Manalo Squadron cooperated with the 33rd Air Division and eventually downed the ace Blood Crane, Scavenger, and Predator squadrons. After the aces were downed several MiG-21s in the hundreds showed up, but to no avail. Manalo 4 proceeded to fire a singular missile towards the flight, unbeknownst to anyone he had an experimental Long Range Shockwave Missile fitted into his Su-37K. Air superiority was secured in the blink of an eye and the squadrons retreated safely.

Tarugan Emergency

. "God damn, I literally hate these guys! Why are we stationed with them?!"
. ― Manalo 2, on being sent in with Bluejay Team.

On the 2nd of May the 3rd African Air Division are given a briefing by their commander, Lieutenant General Luna. He states that there is a war coming and that the air division must be prepared to defend their allies, Weenusiwania and Katanga (Cayenne Minor). Five days later Manalo Squadron are sent to the air to defend an airfield from Woinawoiman forces in Katanga with Bluejay Team. Together they take out two Woinawoiman squadrons, which were unarmed due to the fact that Woinawoima is poor and the planes the squadrons flew were composed of Cessna 172s and old A6M Zeros. Before taking out the Zeros the two squadrons get into an argument, mainly between Captain Ford and 1st Lieutenant Sabas. They also provide CAS to the 37th Santruvian Infantry Regiment.

Four days later on the 11th of May they get into a food fight in their current base, Kalemie Air Base. The fight started due to 2nd Lieutenant Gδrtner instigating conflict between Captain Ford and 1st Lieutenant Sabas. The two engage in heavy fighting and eventually end up in solitary. Major Llewelyn and Major Christopher are excepted due to their lack of contribution in the food fight. They are freed from solitary three days later.

On the 17th of May Weenusiwania issued a strategic retreat from their capital, Sunagakure. Manalo Squadron was sent in along with the 33rd Air Division to provide support to retreating allies and to cover the rear. As the 33rd Air Division and the 703rd Strike Fighter Squadron continued their support Woinawoima's elite Amogus squadron showed up with hopes of taking out all allied air units in the area. Their flight lead, Amogus 1, was shot down by Captain Ford and Amogus 2 fled the AO shortly after. Eventually the enemy air forces were decimated and it was up to the soldiers on the ground to retreat quickly. As the soldiers retreated enemy reinforcements arrived from the north to reestablish air superiority. The 33rd Air Division splits up to support ground forces and to intercept the reinforcements. Eventually the reinforcements also retreat and the retreat was successful.

. "Criss cross, criss cross! Cha cha, real smooth."
. ― Manalo 4 while performing the Philippine Criss Cross.

On the 22nd of May Manalo Squadron participated in the allied Operation Sea Bird alongside the Nigerian and Weenusiwanian navies and the CMS Alicorn to lure out the Kachasan 4th Naval Battlegroup out of Sunagakure so they can initiate a blockade to prevent Kachasan supplies from reaching Chiban forces. They were equipped with Tactical Laser Systems to make the operation easier but they ultimately did not use it in the second half of the battle due to the fact that it was too easy. The squadron takes out enemy air while the Alicorn and the Nigerian Navy deal with the ships. After dealing with the first group they faced off against the 4th Naval Battlegroup.

When initially facing the 1st wave of the Battlegroup they fired all their lasers on the carrier. Seeing how disadvantageous it is for the Kachasans they stopped using their lasers to fight fairly even though they had the Alicorn. Eventually the rest of the Battlegroup arrived, outnumbering the allies for some time. Eventually the Weenusiwanian United Air Defense Force come in to assist along with some more Weenusiwanian ships. With the increased number of air targets Manalo Squadron was freed to engage without becoming a missile sponge. They emerged victorious and started a blockade against Chiban forces.

Members

Roster (2006-2010)

Lt. Col. Bulletploof Grass - Manalo One | Kuya Damo

• Nationality: Filipino
• Age: 41
• Sex: Male
• Status: Alive, Retired
• Lieutenant Colonel Grass was a man of sheer focus and willpower. No matter the situation he would always persevere and succeed. He joined the military in 2006 due
to his love of planes, especially the Sukhoi family tree of planes. He would get some of his friends to join the military with him to be in a squadron together.
In 2010 he would leave the military along with his friends to pursue a career in politics and would go on to later win the 2012 and 2018 Philippine Presidential
Elections. He would reactivate the squadron later because of terrorist threats.

Capt. Isaiah Niρo Aguilar † - Manalo Two | Gaguilar

• Nationality: Filipino
• Aged: 28
• Sex: Male
• Status: Killed in action
• Niρo was the comedic relief of the group, often being stupid and reckless as a joke. He sometimes disobeyed orders for fun to mess with his commanders. He
was invited into the military by his friend Grass in 2006, he liked the idea and told the rest of his friends about it which prompted Raffaele, Kent and Gabriel to
join as well. In March 25, 2008 however, he would be shot down by a hostile aircraft. His ejection systems were presumed to have failed due to the nature of the
missile's trajectory, he was killed in action and was promoted after the war for his heroic actions.

Maj. Jan Raffaele Capus - Manalo Three; Two | Buboy

• Nationality: Filipino
• Age: 42
• Sex: Male
• Status: Alive, Retired
• Raffaele was a man of power, he would always try to be strong and lead as an example. Sometimes however he can be dumb, such as the time when he forgot
what prime numbers were and proudly announced it to his classmates. He is still made fun of with that to this day. Rafael joined the military along with Niρo,
Kent and Gabriel in late 2006. He accepted Niρo's invitation because of the military's incentives and because he hated his current job. He left the military in 2010
along with most of the squad and became a comedian in a local bar.

1st Lt. Ronnel De los Reyes - Manalo Three | Pandak

• Nationality: Filipino
• Age: 40
• Sex: Male
• Status: Alive, Retired
• Ronnel was very good friends with Col. Grass prior to the military. When Raffaele switched schools Ronnel was Grass's best friend. They had a long history of
friendship, but when Grass joined the military Ronnel at first relinquished, stating that it was dangerous. But after seeing one of his family members die in the
Fishy attack on Hawaii he joined Grass's squadron and took the place of Raffaele, who became the squadron's number two. After the war instead of leaving to
return to a normal life he stayed with the squadron, considering it his second family. When the squadron was deactivated in 2010 he went back to his normal
office job.

Capt. Kent Joshua Lacsao - Manalo Four | Frenny

• Nationality: Filipino
• Age: 42
• Sex: Male
• Status: Alive, Active
• Kent was a very stupid but hardworking man. He met Grass at the 7th Grade and really liked his attitude, especially his friendliness and willingness to give
answers. When they were in college together they often would skip class together and perform illegal street racing, with Kent losing quite a lot of races due to
his stupid nature. He eventually joined the air force with Grass because he could not find a job. After the war he would continue to serve in different branches
of the military.

Jon Leo Gabriel Relator - AWACS | Kompensator

• Nationality: Filipino
• Age: 40
• Sex: Male
• Status: Alive, Retired
• Gabriel was a the radio operator of the AWACS aircraft for the squadron. He is usually talkative and entertains the squadron during a boring exercise, which
sometimes were detrimental as he was joking around in a serious situation. Before joining the military with his colleagues he looked out for them by tapping
into police communications to inform his friends of the police's movement, sort of like a civilian AWACS. During the Fish War he operated in Eagle Eye's plane
for simplicity. After the squadron disbanded he stayed in the military until 2012 to become an anchor on TV Patrol for ABS-CBN.

Roster (2017-present)

Maj. Jacqueline Virgie Felicidad - Manalo One | Sharp Eye

• Nationality: Filipino
• Age: 32
• Sex: Female
• Status: Alive, Active
• A straightforward, kind and nice woman, Jacqueline is the flight lead of the 124th TFS. She often finds herself distracted from all conflict by the color of the
sky. She joined the Philippine Air Force when she knew that she had the potential to fly planes instead of serving in one. She would be given the nickname
"Sharp Eye" due to her accuracy on guns. She was awarded the Air Force Distinguished Service medal for her precise air support back in the Battle of Marawi.

Capt. Julian Devin Ford - Manalo Two | Switchblade

• Nationality: Filipino
• Age: 35
• Sex: Male

Singularity adviced a retreat but Manalo 2 stayed, which would cause him to be shot down. He was held as POW and was later released at the end of the war.
He received a Prisoner of War Medal after the end of the Circum-Pacific War.

Notes

?. ^ The source for Hokage Tomithy managing to survive a missile is ambiguous, some say he took a missile to the face and didn't suffer, some say the
missile somehow fell short and didn't hit despite a good missile tone.
