Jorjian Political Structure

The Mayor
The Star of Jorj is led by a Mayor who is elected for life (It should be noted that Mayors have an average life expectancy of around two months after election). Mayoral elections are held upon the retirement of the previous Mayor, and all Jorjian citizens, regardless of age, are eligible to vote. The Mayor is supported by his Authorities and the Powers that Be. The Mayor supposedly has full executive power, but generally is limited to signing the Authorities whims into law. The most recent mayor, Car'das, has proven to be an exception in every way. He has served for an unprecedented 3 years, and is the first Mayor to have been a member of the the Powers that Be (although he was still counted as an Authority as well).

The Authorities
The Authorities are a group of corporate leaders and big name political movers and shakers. Effectively an un-elected, corrupt, moral-poor legislature. The corrupt nature of the Authorities is a major cause for political unrest in the Star of Jorj, but many protesters find the point rather moot when dodging full scale battles between armies hired by Authorities suddenly become a much more pressing issue. Many Authorities, however, try to polish their image with the general public, funding public charities and ensuring that the Star of Jorj remains independent. These benevolent Authorities often only act out of a desire to be elected Mayor.

The Powers that Be
The Powers that Be are a secretive group of Very Gifted or otherwise Talented individuals. They tend to stay out of the picture, only intervening between large intra-Authority conflicts. They believe they are destined to become the New Authorities, although not even rumors tell of what their plans are. They are very loyal to the Mayor, though they rarely use their Gifts or Talents to prevent assassinations.
