The Office's Analysis

Twobagger was a defender with the South Pacific's ally 10000 Islands before defecting at the beginning of this year to join the infamous raiding organization The Black Hawks. The proposal appears to be commending him for his contributions to defending, which the South Pacific would normally support. However, closer inspection reveals that the proposal's author is Jakker, a longtime commander in the Black Hawks. It is clear that Jakker chose to commend Twobagger specifically in order to anger 10000 Islands. South Pacificans should not tolerate such action against an ally of ours. The fact that out of all the notable defenders and former defenders in the world, Jakker chose to propose a commendation of the one who defected and switched sides to become a raider suggests that his motivation is merely to bring another World Assembly badge into the Black Hawks. But the proposal never even explicitly mentions that Twobagger is now a raider, leading uninformed voters to think that they are commending a military hero when in fact they are rewarding a military enemy. Furthermore, Twobagger's own actions as listed in the commendation proposal are not terribly special and do not meet the typical standard of the Security Council. The duplicitousness in this proposal is outstanding and it should be called out for what it is: an attempt at trolling our ally, the defender community, and the World Assembly. The Office strongly urges a vote against.
“Commend Twobagger” is a product of the worst habits of the Security Council and the Gameplay community in general. Let’s be clear: Twobagger betrayed 10000 Islands and joined their enemies in The Black Hawks. Regardless of the motive or anybody’s opinion on that, they are not an active defender and 10000 Islands does not approve of being used in such a manipulative way to commend them. The commendation purposefully misleads the rest of the game into thinking that Twobagger is a current wonderous defender, when in all actuality they are a turncoat raider.

Fihami is the Minister of Military Affairs of the South Pacific. (Note: FiHami had originally voted for this proposal, but later edited their vote to against because they "realize[d] this proposal is in bad faith". This statement was made before they edited their vote and may not reflect their current views.)

Fihami wrote:While yes, the individual in question may at this time be raider-aligned, during their time as a defender, they did some good work in defending and, as the proposal has mentioned, has left positive, lasting impacts in the defendersphere. The nominee, in my eyes, would be worthy of a commendation. Additionally, their change from defender to raider has highlighted some issues that we face when dealing with the game which is still widely discussed between both sides of the R/D community.

Pallaith wrote:I also find it ironic that what appears to be (in my view) a similar kind of commendation written by the like of Kuriko for defenders that are considered more “pure” (for lack of a better word) is being opposed by some of the same people who would be on board for those commendations. Methinks something else is going on here.

Penguin Dictators wrote:While I do respect the views of XKI and others on this as I'm also more of a Defender mindset, I also know and respect TB and appreciate his accomplishments. Is this an attempt at trolling XKI? It's very possible, I don't know personally because I tend to stay out of the petty schoolyard stuff that happens behind the scenes in these C&Cs. But looking at it simply from the viewpoint of what I know about TB personally from my experiences with him, I'm in favor of this. I don't care that he switched, and for anyone who got hurt by this alignment switch or how he did it, you have my condolences.

Aumeltopia wrote:Twobagger was a longtime defender in 10000 Islands until they switched sides and became a raider with the Black Hawks about a year (?) ago. This is a proposal by a TBH leader praising Twobagger's time in 10000 Islands. That sounds legitimate and reasonable at first, but really it seems to be just a sort of twisted way of getting another SC badge on a TBHer. Twobagger, as far as I can tell, did great military and civilian work in 10000 Islands -- but not really enough to merit a commendation on its own. The proposal also attempts to praise the way they handled switching sides from defender to raider -- but I'm not really sure why the SC should be looking favorably on people who switch to the harmful side of the R/D game.

Fihami is the Minister of Military Affairs of the South Pacific. (Note: FiHami had originally voted for this proposal, but later edited their vote.)

Fihami wrote:I am now against because I now realize that this proposal is in bad faith, and this kind of bad faith acting has no place in the security council. Commendations and Condemnations should be made in good faith, to honor the work of someone who made significant contributions to nationstates. While on the surface it seemed to be made in good faith, it has become clear that it is a point of disrespect to "stick it to XKI" and therefore I change my vote to against.

Qvait is a current member of the Council on Regional Security and a former Minister of Foreign Affairs of the South Pacific.

Qvait wrote:I strongly oppose this proposed resolution as it was written by a raider for another raider. The Security Council should reserve commmendatory resolutions for those who have protected and preserved native communities, and while the subject in question has done so, they have since decided to join The Black Hawks and worked to undo all of the progress done against the destructive raids that plague so many communities.

Zataras is a World Assembly member and citizen of the South Pacific.

Zataras wrote:While his contributions were helpful for a time, he has switched sides and is undermining those steps in the right direction. I predict that he will continue to work as a raider but I hope I am wrong.

Daytime to night wrote:There is plenty of line by line commentary on the bit part contributions made by the candidate and motivations of the author above but this proposal ultimately comes down to one thing. The commendation seeks to commend a mid-tier officer and Senator of one UCR for achievements that were largely not his own. It doesn't meet the high standards of the Security Council and should be rejected accordingly. Twobagger made positive contributions to 10000 Islands and defending but so have hundreds of others.

Sandaoguo wrote:I don't understand why anyone has bothered to argue the detail of this commendation. It is a blatantly bad faith and trollish commendation, and it speaks volumes about the sad state of GP and the Security Council. The dishonesty in portraying a turncoat raider to the public as an active and commendable defender is just gross.
