The Circum-Pacific War, also known as the Philippine-Minori War, was a large-scale war waged between the Socialist Federal Republic of the Philippines and the Federation of Cayenne Minor that began on September 27, 2020 and ended on December 30, 2020. It involved among the two great powers, the Commonwealth of Santruvius, the Federation of Free Inca, and the Republic of Indonesia, an independent side composed of Free Vedoria, various renegade units, and the Minori Civilian Resistance, and the instigators of the conflict, the Fish Men.

The war started as a result of Minori intrusions into Philippine airspace and a Philippine blockade on Rapa Nui. For reasons unknown Santruvius joined the war on October 5, 2020, likely due to their inherent interest in warfare and violence. Free Inca officially joined the war on December 29, 2020 but was secretly helping the Philippines since the start of the Sporadic Islands Campaign on October 28, 2020. Indonesia also joins the war on the Minori side on December 29 due to a border conflict with Santruvius. The war ended on December 30, 2020 after the Battle of Davao but the final battle happened a day later over the Philippine capital, Manila.

Throughout the war an air force unit from Sabtang AFB would gain notoriety and recognition from both sides of the conflict, the Wardog Squadron. They became the pillar of morale of the Philippine side but they were shot down after being branded as traitors on December 7, 2020. However they seemingly continued to fight independently as the Ghosts of Razgriz, a formation of their former planes sporting a black paintjob with no markings.

The major participants threw their economic, industrial, and scientific capabilities behind the war effort, which blurred the distinction between civilian and military resources. As a war between two major powers the Circum-Pacific War was deadly, more than a million personnel were involved throughout the duration of the war and around 500 thousand of them would perish as a result of it. Innocent civilians were killed in various war crimes conducted by both of the major combatants. Ace pilots, such as Wardog Squadron, played a major role in the conflict, as well as laser weaponry which was first utilized in this war. Certain circumstances of the Circum-Pacific War are being kept secret by the Philippine government.

Background

On March 25, 2008, the Fish War started with the Fishy invasion of Polynesia, Hawaii, Melanesia, and Micronesia. The Philippines being the de facto leader of the Maharlikan Commonwealth began assembling the Coalition with Vedoria, a group of countries whose goal is to defeat the Fishy States and liberate the countries it invaded. On June 20, 2008, the war ended with a Coalition victory. After this on the 21st night of September the Cormorant Pact was established by New Volgo, the Philippines and Vedoria, an economic pact and international body to enforce the Coalition's compliance to the Sargasso Treaty.

Hardline Fishy militants viewed these three countries as the perpetrators to the downfall of their country. As such throughout the years they established the Fish Men, a terrorist organization whose goal is to lock the Philippines and Cayenne Minor into endless conflict as the ultimate revenge for the defeat of the Fishy States in 2008. In the years following the Fish War the Fish Men infiltrated the government of Cayenne Minor and began to put their plan into motion on the morning of September 22, 2020, when they kidnapped Prime Minister Lance Ross in Antofagasta, Nevisshire. A day later, Deputy Prime Minister Sebastian Piñera, a member of the Fish Men, takes power of Cayenne Minor temporarily, meanwhile the government assigns the National Security Agency to look for Ross but the agency was filled with Fishy infiltrators and this assignment went nowhere.

Initial Engagements

On September 23, 2020, the PAF 108th Tactical Fighter Squadron, "Wardog Squadron", was performing a training exercise over the Luzon Strait when an unknown squadron entered the airspace. The interlopers attacked the Philippine aircraft, and the engagement cost the lives of but one trainee, and two of the three flight instructors. Wardog's assigned base, Sabtang Island Air Force Base, and the remaining Wardog pilots on the ground were unharmed.

The next day, September 24, another unidentified aircraft entered Philippine airspace. The Philippines' anti-aircraft defensive network managed to damage the bogey, and it had begun withdrawing from Philippine airspace. Sabtang Island launched Wardog Squadron—under the command of Cpt. Bartlett—to perform the intercept. Wardog attempted to force the plane to land, but once again, a squadron of unknown fighters suddenly entered the airspace and engaged the Philippine squadron. This time, however, Wardog held its own against the hostile fighters and shot down all of the unknown aircraft.

On September 27, a spy vessel was spotted in the vicinity of Sabtang Island; radar analysis showed that the mysterious vessel had deployed several unmanned reconnaissance drones. Wardog Squadron, under express orders not to damage the unknown ship, once again took flight and shot down all of the spy drones. For the third time in less than a week, a squadron of unknown fighters engaged Wardog, which were shot down as well. During the engagement the spy vessel fired an anti-aircraft missile at one of the fighters. Cpt. Bartlett ran interference and diverted the missile, he bailed out safely afterwards but was not found by search-and-rescue.

During the engagement, the spy vessel fired an anti-aircraft missile at one of the pilots. Cpt. Bartlett ran interference and diverted the missile, taking the hit and bailing out of his damaged MiG-21 Balalaika before it crashed into the Luzon Strait. However, when the search-and-rescue helicopter arrived, Bartlett was nowhere to be found and declared MIA. By the time the remaining Wardog pilots had returned to base, Cayenne Minor had made an official declaration of war on the Philippines, mentioning the naval blockade on Rapa Nui as an act of war.

Open War

By the time the remaining Wardog pilots had returned to base, Cayenne Minor had made an official declaration of war on the Philippines, mentioning the naval blockade on Rapa Nui as an act of war. Following this, Cayenne Minor simultaneously launched an assault on the naval port of Legazpi City, which was hosting the 7th Philippine Naval Fleet's flagship, the BSPRP Kestrel. Several squadrons rendezvoused with other nearby allied squadrons and managed to escort the Kestrel into open waters, despite the Cayenne Minoris' deployment of numerous bomber aircraft and a blockade of warships outside the harbor's mouth.

Later that evening, Cayenne Minor launched a surprise bombing raid on Sabtang Island, the Philippines' northernmost base, and Wardog took to the skies once again. During the attack, Lt. Colonel Ford, the new leader of Wardog Squadron, attempted to land but was shot down and killed during his approach. The current flight lead of Wardog (TACName Blaze) became the official leader of Wardog Squadron. They were joined by Airman First Class Hans Grimm, who successfully taxied and took off despite the intense enemy bombardment. Together, the four Wardog fighters managed to repulse the Cayenne Minori air raid, sparing the air base from any irreparable damage.

A day later Cayenne Minor launched an amphibious landing on Baler, Centrum, with the goal of eventually linking up with forces advancing from the north, but Wardog's defense of Sabtang Island delayed the northern forces which contributed in the failure of the operation. Meanwhile on the same day the Philippine Navy fought off a Minori fleet off the island of Siargao. The Minori fleet planned to take over the island of Siargao as a launching point for an invasion of Mindanao while the forces up north were distracted with the Baler Landings. But with the help of Manalo Squadron the Minori fleet was sunk and an invasion of Mindanao was halted. After this the Philippines quickly began rallying its forces in preparation for a counterattack against Cayenne Minor.

On September 30, the 7th Philippine Naval Fleet's aircraft carriers the Kestrel, Vulture, and Buzzard, rendezvoused at San Bernardino Strait. However, as the warships entered the strait, Cayenne Minori carrier jets infiltrated the airspace and launched a surprise attack on the carriers. Although the attacking fighters were shot down by Philippine escort aircraft, two burst missiles from the submarine Scinfaxi were launched, sinking the Vulture and Buzzard, as well as the majority of the Philippines' fighters. Two days later on October 2, Cayenne Minor sent another, much larger fleet towards Siargao for a second attempt to take the island but they were intercepted way before they could get close to the island. Wardog Squadron was deployed alongside several other squadrons to repel the attack, ultimately, Wardog did most of the work by killing most of the ships.

In response to the threat posed by the Scinfaxi and its burst missiles, the Philippines decided to deploy the Arkbird, a large maneuverable spacecraft capable of attacking from orbit, into battle. The Philippines planned an SSTO operation to attach the Arkbird's lower laser module which was under construction prior to the war. On October 3, the Mass Driver that was due to launch the SSTO fell under attack by Cayenne Minori aircraft, but Wardog, which had landed at Rajah Buayan Air Base on its route back to Sabtang Island, intercepted the strike forces, and the launch proceeded smoothly.

During this however, Cayenne Minor captured the Batanes and Babuyan Islands with help from the Scinfaxi and were now proceeding into North Luzon. The Minori Army seemed to be making quick gains on their way to Manila, however, they got stuck in Cordillera due to the mountainous terrain defended by the Filipino forces, and without the help from the forces in Baler they could not flank the enemy. On October 5, Santruvius joined the war on the Philippine side, likely due to their interest in warfare and probably to secure their supply of food which mostly came from Centrum in the Philippines.

North Luzon.

A day later on October 6, Wardog had arrived to Cordillera to support the remaining Filipino forces. The situation was dire but with the help of Wardog Squadron the attackers were being pushed back. The Arkbird, several other squadrons, and the Santruvians were also there for support. Four days later on October 10, the Cayenne Minoris are pushed out of Luzon and only reside in the Batanes and Babuyan Islands, the Scinfaxi was there stationed at Sabtang Island to support the Cayenne Minori forces. Philippine and Santruvian naval and air forces supported each other in the attack, however, the Scinfaxi deployed its burst missiles, killing most of the pilots except Wardog Squadron. But with support from the Arkbird, the remaining Wardog pilots managed to sink the Scinfaxi and take back the islands.

Afterwards a 6-day long stalemate would ensue in the East Philippine Sea, whereby the Cayenne Minori couldn't advance as the Arkbird was always there patrolling the sea for hostiles, and the Philippine Navy couldn't advance as the Arkbird guards the coastline. But on October 17 a joint operation against Cayenne Minor's airship Gandr would take place over the East Philippine Sea near Samar. The PAF and RSAF with help from Wardog Squadron disabled the Gandr's defensive weaponry and take out its escorts. Afterwards a team of Filipinos would infiltrate the airship and steal it from Cayenne Minor.

The next day on October 18, a massive naval battle would commence in the Celebes Sea near the Sangihe Islands, south of Mindanao. The ships and aircraft which participated in the battle all had laser weaponry mounted, making it the first battle in history where lasers were used to a large extent. Despite both sides employing lasers, none of them utilized any shields which resulted in most of the units sent to battle being destroyed. The CMS Cordoba, an experimental Cayenne Minori submarine, was also sunk during the battle.

A few days later Typhoon Quinta ravages the Eastern Philippine Sea, destroying most of the Cayenne Minori units present in the area, enabling the Philippine Navy to freely roam the area as the rest of the Cayenne Minori Navy are across the Pacific Ocean.

Sir Grass and Piñera's disappearances

A few weeks after Cayenne Minor's attempt to take Sabtang Island, on October 22, Philippine President Sir Bulletploof Grass attempted to travel to neutral Mongolia to hold peace talks with Cayenne Minori Prime Minister Sebastian Piñera. However, the Philippines' anti-air defenses, not recognizing the president's secret transport plane, fired on the plane and forced it to make an emergency landing somewhere near the Bangui Wind Farm. Wardog Squadron defended the plane until it landed, whereupon the president's transport was entrusted to the 8492nd Squadron. This would be the last time Sir Grass was seen for two months; from then on, Philippine Vice President Lorenzo Carlos assumed the role of president.

Soon afterward, the Arkbird was put out of commission by an explosive device planted by unknown operatives aboard a supply shipment from Earth. The Philippine military could not repair the orbiting satellite, so the issue was ignored. Meanwhile, a coup was thought to have taken place in Cayenne Minor staged by right-wing militants, whom were supported by a group of terrorists now known as the Fish Men.

Invasion of Cayenne Minor; terrorist attacks

The Philippine and Santruvian military, led by General Kent Lacsao, launched the Sporadic Islands Campaign on October 28, taking Rapa Nui on the same day and the rest of the Sporadic Islands two days later. Free Inca also helped the supply lines in this campaign. A day after they launch another amphibious landing operation on Antofagasta constituency. A series of defensive bunkers and fortresses slowed the advance, but to no avail. Two days later, Cayenne Minori forces attempted to egress supplies from the area via transport aircraft in order to create a reinforced front line ahead of the Philippine military. Wardog Squadron was deployed to intercept and shoot down all of the transport planes. However, during this operation, an engineering college in Nevisbury was under attack by aircraft bearing Philippine markings. Wardog, being the only Philippine fighter squadron known to be operating in the area, was called to Manila for questioning.

The Minori Bluejay Team.

During Wardog's hearing in Manila, Cayenne Minori special forces launched a terrorist attack on Philippine soil in response to the earlier attack on Cayenne Minor. The terrorists targeted Subic Bay International Airport with assault units, as well as the city of Tarlac with chemical weapons. The Philippines' Capital District Air Defense Squadron was launched to suppress the Tarlac City chemical attacks while Wardog Squadron, due to there being no other options, was launched to address the SBIA attack. Meanwhile the Philippines and Santruvius were being pushed out of Nevisbury and Antofagasta in Cayenne Minor as Wardog Squadron was not present. With the assistance of Bluejay Team the Filipinos and Santruvians were finally pushed out on November 8. Three days prior to this a cargo ship arrives in Florianopolis which releases several MQ-99's that attack the city mercilessly in retaliation for one of the terrorist attacks on the Philippines.

Philippine Marines preparing to
invade La Plata.

On November 10th, several days after the retaliatory attacks, the Philippine and Santruvian militaries launched several offensives on the Minori East Coast. The Santruvians take Puerto Alegre but are unable to capture Gravatai due to fierce resistance, the Filipinos meanwhile take on Montevideo and Florianopolis, with Wardog Squadron present in the latter. After capturing Florianopolis, Wardog Squadron splits up in order to help the Santruvians in Gravatai, enabling them to encircle the city. Meanwhile the forces in Montevideo succeed and proceed to link up with the Santruvians over the following days.

Four days after the start of the Eastern Offensive on November 14, Wardog Squadron is deployed deep within Cayenne Minori territory. They were tasked to destroy a large Cayenne Minori munitions factory in Artigas. Since the factory is protected by four defensive lines, each consisting of four radars, the Wardog splits up and destroys all radars in each line simultaneously to avoid detection. They then proceed to demolish the factory, dealing a severe blow to the Cayenne Minori army supply chain. After this the Philippine military launched a direct offensive operation to capture the Cayenne Minori capital, Concordia, in short order.

When the Philippine and Santruvian militaries began offensive operations, however, Cayenne Minor deployed what is assumed to be the last of their Scinfaxi-class submarines, the Hrimfaxi, and fired burst missiles from the Razgriz Passage at the ground troops, preventing their advance. Wardog Squadron flew south to destroy the submarine as it was refueling. Wardog's destruction of the Hrimfaxi earned the pilots' the nickname "Demons of Razgriz" and made them the keystone of the Philippine military's morale. By late November, the Philippine offensive had come to a head in the La Plata Basin. The Philippines launched a coordinated ground-and-air campaign to overtake vital Minori defensive positions in the basin. With the help of Wardog Squadron, the Philippine and Santruvian forces pushed through the La Plata Basin and were now on their way to Concordia's doorstep, the only obstacle in their way being Salto fortress.

On November 29th, Wardog was asked to perform a ceremonial fly-by over a peace ceremony being held in Angeles City, Centrum. At the event, the Vice President gave a strikingly pro-war speech, to which the crowd the responded by singing in unison. Suddenly, Cayenne Minori aircraft penetrated the airspace and attempted to assault the stadium. Reinforcements were called, but another squadron appeared and called off the reinforcements by stating that the attack was only a drill. The reinforcements were called back after a short while, but by that time, Alvin H. Davenport of Wardog Squadron had crashed and was killed in action. The attack was halted once Philippine reinforcements arrived.

Over the next few days, Philippine ground forces attempted to capture Salto Fortress, the final blockade on the path to Concordia. Wardog Squadron joined the ground troops on the third attempt on December 6, which proved successful as the ground troops broke through the northern wall. After this Cayenne Minor moved its capital to Salta in North Chaco. On their return trip Wardog Squadron is confronted by the 8492nd Squadron to expose them as spies. Although the 8492nd failed, they made it back to Montevideo and informed the base personnel of the spies. Wardog attempted to escape, but they were shot down by Marcus Snow of the Kestrel's air squadron. According to Philippine documents all the Wardog pilots were killed in action.

Stalemate on the front

Though they lost their pillar of morale, the Philippine and Santruvian Armies continued to attempt to capture Concordia. Unfortunately, the ground troops, with no assistance from Wardog Squadron, could not take the capital and fell back to a defensive position. The war entered a stalemate at this point, and though Cayenne Minori forces regained some land in the following days, neither side scored any notable victories after the recapture of Salto Fortress. After the disappearance of Wardog Squadron a squadron comprised of four black F-35Cs would sometimes fly in the battlefield, as if they were the ghosts of the fallen squadron. This gave the demoralized Philippine forces some hope in the war. The planes even seemingly fought on their side. They were soon nicknamed "Ghosts of Razgriz" or "Razgriz" in short.

Following the disappearance of Wardog Squadron the Philippine and Santruvian forces still tried to advance but it all winded up in failure. It didn't help that more and more Minori squadrons were being deployed to the La Plata Basin. On December 11, the Philippines tried to regain momentum by starting another offensive. Initially seeing success, the advance was halted when Bluejay Team showed up. Manalo Squadron and other air units were told to retreat but two of Manalo's planes stayed in the AO and fought Bluejay head on. Despite being able to damage one of Bluejay's planes one of Manalo's planes got critically damaged and was forced to exfiltrate. The last Manalo was shot down but he survived and was taken as a POW.

On December 14th, continuous unusual movement from the Arkbird made the Philippine command wary, they assume it has been hijacked and that the enemy will use the Arkbird on a city and frame it on the Philippines. But then more unusual events happened. It was observed that the Arkbird descended into the atmosphere to correct its course, but it descended deeper than necessary and was attacked by the Razgriz. The Arkbird changed its course one final time and headed for Salta, the new temporary headquarters of the Minori government. But it was stopped by the four planes in time, crashing into the Pacific Ocean and exploding underwater.

The Gleipnir crashing into the Paraná
River.

Six days after the destruction of the Arkbird on December 20, the Gleipnir was deployed and sent to Artigas. The city was easily taken back by the Gleipnir and it became Bluejay Team's new headquarters. But after putting the pieces together the squadron realized that the Minori government had been purged and was replaced with a military one. First Lieutenant Sabas of Bluejay tried to voice his concern but was arrested. After this the rest of Bluejay broke him out and they switched sides to Free Vedoria. Two days later they confronted the Gleipnir and its escorts, they first took out the escort planes and then went for the Gleipnir's starboard wing. After a few minutes the entire wing broke off, and the Gleipnir was sent plummeting into the Paraná River.

In the meantime, Sir Grass had been attempting to broadcast his voice to the Philippine people to get them to see the truth. The Vice President, however, censored it from airing, calling it "enemy propaganda." The President and his Marine force flew into Manila to make sure that the President's voice was heard. The next day on December 22, the Razgriz helped a Filipino captain escape Cayenne Minor, with the Cayenne Minori Major Nastasha Alberta and Prime Minister Ross, the latter having been in prison since the start of the war. The 8492nd Squadron was revealed to be the Fishy 229th Tactical Fighter Squadron "Grabacr" as they attempted to intercept the planes, but they were all shot down and safely ejected from their planes. The Major brought a disc that contained secret plans from the Fish Men, and the members of the Kestrel Fleet began to decrypt it.

The Artigas Strike Group as seen
from the Kestrel.

On December 27, the Kestrel Fleet encountered the Artigas Strike Group. Prime Minister Ross attempted to broadcast his voice in a call for peace, but the Strike Group Commander claimed that Ross had joined the enemy and ordered his ships to fire on the battle group. The Razgriz were sent to destroy the Minori fleet and defend three defecting ships that had decided to protect the Prime Minister. In the middle of the engagement, a small Philippine battle group came into the picture and fired on the Kestrel Fleet for "siding with the Minoris." The Kestrel Fleet and the Razgriz managed to destroy all attacking forces. On the same day Indonesia also joins the war on the Minori side due to a border incident with Santruvius. Free Inca also formally joins the war after being exposed of helping Philippine supply lines.

The next day, the disc was decrypted, and it revealed plans for the V-2 MIRV missile. The Fish Men had loaded it onto the Strategic Orbital Linear Gun (or SOLG) and were controlling it from Davao City. Meanwhile as the Kestrel was sunk it launched the Razgriz for the final time, which quickly flew to Davao City. As this was happening Sir Grass and Prime Minister Ross held a peace talk in Manila, officially ending the war and calling on their troops to assist the Razgriz against the true enemy.

The SOLG exploding upon its
destruction.

On December 30, a coalition of Cayenne Minori, Philippine and Santruvian forces was formed. They assisted the Razgriz as they entered the tunnel and destroyed the control devices. However, the SOLG's fail-safe (which were built into it by Fishy infiltrators) activated, sending it on a crash course to Manila. The next day, Razgriz flew for the final time before disappearing, meeting both Ofnir and Grabacr Squadrons. The Razgriz managed to shoot them all down, and then safely destroyed the SOLG as it approached Manila.

Aftermath

The war left both the Minori and Philippine military weakened with a massive reduction of manpower on both sides due to the amount of deaths during the conflict. As a result of this weakening the Philippines was not able to protect Indonesia from Santruvius, despite this the Philippine government assures Indonesia that together they will one day regain lost Indonesian territory and make Santruvius pay, be it in blood, equipment, or money. Pacifist movements also took hold in Cayenne Minor and especially in the Philippines, resulting in the latter becoming a neutral state from September 15, 2021 until December 13, 2021, after a Filipino passenger ship was sunk by a Chiban submarine.

But even after the Pacifist movement took hold in both countries they were still militarizing and participating in wars, the Philippines started research on an advanced aerial fleet and sent Philippine forces to fight in the Weenusiwanian Civil War, ICIF Peacekeeping in Weenusiwania, and the Tarugan Emergency, Cayenne Minor meanwhile had the Gandr returned to them and started a coup in Venezuela on September 28, 2021. Cayenne Minor and the Philippines also established the International Community Intervention Force after the war as a way to not let anything of this scale happen again.
