Tourist Guide
While the region of Romania is a nice place to spend your time in NationStates, the real-life nation of Romania is also full of beautiful sites and cities that are definitely worth visiting. As such, we decided to provide you with a short and interesting series that presents the beauty of Romania! Welcome to our tourist guide!
Moldova, the land of forgotten history
Iași
Having served as the capital city of the Moldavian Principality since 1564, Iași is without a doubt one of the most beautiful city in Romania. Its position as a social, cultural, academic, and artistic center ensured that its legacy will never be forgotten, with multiple influential movements in the country having their roots in "The Moldavian Capital". Check out our tourist guide for the Cultural Capital of Romania.
Transylvania, the powerhouse of Romania
Majestic castles, beautiful cities, marvelous sites; if you have seen one of these associated with Romania, chances are the pictures were taken in Transylvania. With multiculturalism enshrined in the region, Transylvania was home to not only two, but three ethic groups: the Romanians, the Szekelys, and the Transylvanian Saxons, all of them having had a high influence on the traditions and architecture of the area. While the latter group has shrunk significantly since the end of the 19th century, from around 12% to approximately 0.5% today, its culture can still be heavily seen today in cities such as Sibiu or Brașov. The Szekelys, however, are still present in the region, creating one of the most interesting and diverse areas in Transylvania: the Szekely Land.
What made Transylvania so different from the other two regions is the Carpathian Mountains, which offered a shield against the eastern and southern invaders, making the region more tied to the western culture and traditions. This brought stability to these lands, a comfort that the other two Romanian regions lacked throughout the years.
