Militia of Virginia

The militia is the reserve military force of the community,
All able-bodied men over 17 and under 45 are part of the militia as are colonels even if over 45.

The President has the power to commission people to serve as officers the militia, typically delegated to the Colonels who are literally appointed by the President.

It is not a standing army and most militiamen have ordinary jobs with officers typically being professionals, politicians and major landowners.

It Is used to put down riots and revolts and protect the nation from invasion.

The ranks are:
Colonel: in charge of raiding a militia regiment for a specific area E.G. Richmond

Lieutenant-Colonel: a Colonel’s deputy

Captain: leads a company

1st Lieutenant: Captain’s right-hand man

Ensign/Cornet: standard bearer, Ensigns are on foot, Cornet’s on horseback, the most junior commissioned rank.
Command a small group.
Sergeant Major:
An experienced militiaman who reports directly to the Captain on certain matters and has the most authority of the non-commissioned men.

Corporal- has command of a small group

Minuteman- most militia members.
