Making a claim on the map:

    Basic Rules

Before we get started, there's a few things each new nation must adhere to in order to recieve and retain a place on the map. They are as follows:

  • The NWU roleplay is Hard Sci-Fi but can and does include certain fantasy elements.

  • Earth Nations should ideally be based on their real-life counterparts.
For example, if you claimed Germany, your country should be based somewhat on Germany, and how it might look like or have evolved into between our rolpelays Point-of-Divergence and Start Date, as well as onwards.

  • In-Character Nation Names should be somewhat believeable. This means that if the in-character name is not the same as it is IRL, it should at least be based on that country.
For example, if Britain became a republic, it could be referred to as the "Albion Republic" or the "Republic of Great Britain".

  • Have at least one "overview" factbook/dispatch detailing the most important aspects of your country, preferably with a wikipedia-style sidebar.
This is to ensure that applicants have an idea of the country theywant to play as and the direction they're taking it in, but also so other players can understand what they're roleplaying with.

  • The Point-of-Divergence is 1945. This means you can be flexible with the history of your nation from 1945 onwards - with some exceptions.

  • The Roleplay Start Date is 2049. This is when the backstory ends and the roleplay begins. Though if you're joining after the Start Date, you can still fill in what happened between the PoD and the Date you join the Roleplay in.

    Application

  1. Nation Name...

    1. The name of your country in-character. For example, Unified Empiricus is the called the "United Kingdom" not "Unified Empiricus".

    2. Additionally, the name of your country in its native language. For example, the "French Republic" in French is "République Française".

    3. Lastly, an abbreviation of the name of your country, if it has one. For example, the United States of America is abbreviated to "USA" or "U.S.A.".

  2. Form of Government...

    1. Firstly, State Organisation: Some nations are Unitary, whereas some are Federations, Confederations, etc.

    2. Secondly, Political Organisation:
If you are a democracy, are you... Parliamentary, Presidential, etc.
If you are a dictatorship, are you... One Party, Military Dictatorship (Stratocracy), etc.

    3. Lastly, Government Organisation
If you are a monarchy, to what degree... Constitutional, Semi-Constitutional, Absolute etc.
If you are a republic, what form... Constitutional, Socialist, Islamic, etc.

    • Following this system will result in real-world style Forms of Government. For example...
...the United Kingdom is a Unitary, Parlimentary, Constitutional Monarchy.
...the Soviet Union is a Federal, Marxist-Leninist, One-Party, Socialist Republic.

  3. Leader Names...

    1. Head of State: Title and Name | Example: King Arthur Windsor

    2. Head of Government: Title and Name | Example: Prime Minister C.H. Templestone

    3. Some nations have only a Head of State, who both symbolically represent the Nation as well as manage the day to day running of the Government, for example, the President of the United States - in which case, simply specify the Head of State's title and name.

  4. Capital City/Cities

  5. Location of Claim

  6. Location of Secondary Claim, if the first claim is unavailable.

  7. Have you read and do you agree to the Basic Rules (see above) of the roleplay environment?

Once you have the above information, copy and paste it into a Telegram or a message on the Discord Server, to Unified Empiricus.

    N O T E S
  • The first thing to note is that while the NWU does include and encourage an extensive range of fantasy and sci-fi elements, there are slightly more strict requirements for the Earth Map specifically.

    1. Earth Nations should ideally be based on their real-life counterparts. For example, if you claimed Germany, your country should be based somewhat on Germany, however, there is more creative freedom for how you envision the country in the decades between the real-life timeline and our future timeline.

    2. Have a somewhat believable and realistic in-character nation name. What this means is that if the in-character name of your country is not it's real-life name, it should at least be based on another name within that country. For example, if Britain became a republic, it could be referred to as the "Albion Republic".

    3. Have at least one "overview" factbook detailing important aspects of your country, preferably with a wikipedia-style sidebar. This is to ensure that applicants have an idea of the country they want to play as and what direction to take it in.

    4. The RP begins in the year 2048 with an alien invasion arc covering 2040-2045. The historical details and points of interest of the players country between IRL (2023) and the RP Start Date are free to be filled in by the player.

      • The earliest Point-of-Divergence (POD) is 1945, ie. the post-WWII and into the Cold War period for ease of continuity management.

      • Exceptions can be made for players that would otherwise exist within another player country, if an agreement is made with said player.

    5. Puppet Accounts are not permitted in our RP. This is not, however, the same thing as having "puppet states" within the RP itself. Throughout the course of many player interactions countries may be, for one reason or another, puppeted by another country, with governments friendly to the occupier established in their place.

    6. While player nations that are of Alien Origin are not permitted to colonise or have territory on Earth from the outset of their claim, it is perfectly reasonable to play as other Sentient Races that may be native to Earth who evolved and developed alongside Humans. This is particularly applicable to legacy players who have been in the region for long periods of time and who have been on the Earth Map while not being Human-orientated nations, such as Vampires and Ghouls. It should be noted that to maintain an element of realism in this case, claims by non-human nations may be altered to places that are sparsely populated by humans or areas that are generally inhospitable, to ensure that they can both exist and so as to not interfere as much with real-life countries in terms of history, etc.

    A P P L I C A T I O N

  • Once you have everything figured out, send a claim request to Unified Empiricus with the following information:

    1. Account Name (out-of-character)

    2. Nation Name (in-character) and its abbreviation, if applicable

What your country is called in-character, for example, "Unified Empiricus" in-character is the "United Kingdom of Great Britain and Ireland", which is also abbreviated to simply the "UK"

    3. Your nations name in it's native language, if you want to include it, for example the "French Republic" is, in French, "République Française"

    4. Government type (monarchy, republic, stratocracy, etc.)

For example, how the United States of America is a "Federal Presidential Constitutional Republic", or how the United Kingdom is a "Unitary Parliamentary Constitutional Monarchy"

    5. Head of Government or Head of State or Both plus their names

Some countries have only a Head of State (such as the President of the United States who is both the symbol of the nation and the leader of its government) whereas other countries have both a Head of State and Head of Government (such as the United Kingdom where the Monarch is the Head of State and performs mostly ceremonial duties while the day-to-day running of the country is undertaken by the Prime Minister who is the Head of Government)

For more information via Wikipedia: LinkHead of State, LinkHead of Government

    6. Location claim request

    7. Secondary claim request (if first claim is unavailable)

    8. Have you read and agree to the regional RP rules as listed?

  • You may begin taking part in our Roleplay after the application has been accepted, you do not need to wait to be placed on the map to begin taking part as it may take a period of time for the map to be edited, updated and posted.

  • If there is anything you are unsure about, feel free to ask Unified Empiricus about whatever it is you need to clear up, whether its through Telegram, Discord or the Regional Message Board (RMB).

A C T I V I T Y

In order to maintain your place on the map, you should endeavour to remain as active as reasonably possible. Not everybody has the ability to commit the amount of time they may like to for various reasons, and that's fine. If you're on the map and you know you may be inactive for a period of time, simply let Unified Empiricus know that this is the case. We try, to the best of our ability, to make the NWU an open, welcoming and casual atmosphere, instead of an overly-structured, overbearing, regimental system - because that's no fun for anyone. We hope you enjoy your time in the NWU and enjoy our RP!
