The concept of a galactic republic was first established millennia before the battle of Yavin (BBY) and it was called the Old Republic. During this time, the Jedi grew stronger and the Sith formed from rogue Jedi. The Old Republic began its fall in 5000 BBY. Battles between the Jedi and other warriors like the Sith and Mandolorians were fought. The Jedi won and the Sith went into hiding, but the Old Republic collapsed. Starting in 1000 BBY, the Galactic Republic was formed from the Old Republic’s ashes. Many important people were born in this time period. Then, the Trade Federation attacks Naboo in 32 BBY. They capture Theed, starting the Republic’s deterioration. Theed is taken back by the Jedi and they also encounter the Sith for the first time in many years. This sparks the Clone Wars. Kenobi discovers that an army of clones was ordered by a dead Jedi. When he later gets captured on Geonosis, the newly formed Grand Army of the Republic lands on the planet. The battle is a Republic victory. This is the initial battle of the Clone Wars, in 22 BBY. Up until 19 BBY, many battles are fought between he Confederacy of Independent Systems. The Clone Wars ends in a coup done by the Chancellor, Sheev Palpatine. A Galactic Empire is made. A Rebellion is formulated in response. In the Battle of Yavin, they destroy the Death Star I. The Rebelion eventually defeats the Empire. Remnants of the Empire fight back. Rogue Squadron takes Coruscant, but a virus was unleashed. Had they not been so fast, it could have killed almost all non-humans. The Imperial Security Director is defeated and the New Republic is established in 5 ABY. Seperatist and Imperial sympathizers disperse in the far reaches of the galaxy. The New Republic has a hard time maintaining stability. The Yuuzan Vong invade from outside the galaxy. Most of the galaxy is killed. The Galactic Alliance still wins the war against the invaders. In 41 ABY, they seek to make peace. The Imperial remnant was angry that they tried to do so. Seeing the opportunity, Sith Lords seize the galaxy. A vast amount of time passed and methods to keep track of the days throughout the galaxy were destroyed. Technology regressed and Republic loyalists were furious at the destruction of democracy. They found their opportunity and struck back. They waged the Second Galactic Civil War against the Sith. All the Sith and their allies were killed. The entire galaxy was thrown into anarchy briefly. Space travelers tried getting out of the galaxy. On accident, a convoy discovered Earth. They took note of Earth politics, studying the failures, successes, and theories. They brought their findings to the interim government. The government assembled all the intellectuals they could find and voted for a form of government. They overwhelmingly decided on liberal democracy. The new constitution was more democratic than ever and a large army was built to protect it. They named the government the Galactic Liberal Democracy.
