The Knootiaanse Landmacht (KLAMA) is the land component of the Knootian Defense Force. It emphasizes mobility, specialisation, and high-tech equipment in its doctrines and prides itself on its professional volunteer force, where officers and soldiers are expected to make independent decisions and act as the occasion demands. Its last major conflict was the Iesus christi Civil War (2010-2011). The primary focus of KLAMA is on territorial defense and projecting land-based power abroad. Non-kinetic operations fall under the responsibility of the Operational Command (OPCOM), which Army Education, Dental, Chaplaincy, and various strategic-level units like Signals, Cyber Warfare, Military Intelligence, and Electronic Warfare. Foreign citizens and long-term residents can serve in the KLAMA, and divisions from the protectorate of Ale-Yarok have been fully integrated into the force. The Special Forces Regiment (SER) is the Special Operations Force, highly trained to conduct a wide range of military operations independently or in coordination with other units to achieve various objectives, with a particular focus on covert operations behind enemy lines.

Organisation

KADO and OPCON

The KLAMA aims to be an organisation that is focussed on its core missions of territorial defence and the projection of land-based power abroad. Much of the administrative, legal and financial work such as Human Resources and appropriations have therefore been outsourced to KADO or the General Knootian Military Support Organisation (Dutch: Knootiaanse Algemene Defensie Ondersteuningsorganisaties). KADO counts as its own branch of the Knootian Defence Forces and employs a mix of military and civilian employees, supporting all other branches in such tasks. The Knootian logistics chain is especially large and relatively modern, since the army underwent large-scale expansion in the 2000s. Communications rely on an extensive network of satellites and fibre-optic cables.

Non-kinetic operations that are nevertheless core to the mission of KLAMA are relegated to the Operational Command or OPCOM (Dutch: Operationeel Commando). OPCOM is an Army-level command and as such usually headed by a four-star General. Administrative Corps-level institutions within OPCOM include non-combat elements such as Army Education, Dental, Chaplaincy, Transport and Postal Corps, but also strategic-level Signals, Cyber Warfare, Military Intelligence and Electronic Warfare units. Fighting units are organised into field armies and corps with a territorial and operational remit. Additional army-level task forces may be called into action as required, though these will be composed of different elements from the standing field armies. In total, OPCOM makes up some 40% of active KLAMA personnel. This includes supply and logistics units that may be attached to- or embedded with Divisional- and Corps-level commands, which are not mentioned in the following section.

Commands
The core fighting elements are listed below. Click tags to see detailed descriptions of individual units:

  • HARLEG - First Army of Hartstad
The First Army or Army of Hartstad is the army charged with defending the larger capital region of Knootoss. It is headquartered in Leemtrecht.

    • I Corps
I Corps is charged with the defense of the capital city of Haag, the capital city, as well as protecting the government itself from threats either from within or without. The Lieutenant-General in command of the formation is headquartered in Haag near the Ministry of Defence building. Its words (Dutch: "De Eerste de Beste") are often translated as 'First and Foremost'.

      18th Light Infantry Division "Hendrixx"

4 Urban Brigades drawn from the citizenry of Haag are charged with defending the capital city street by street and house by house, should it once again be assaulted by a foreign invader. The unit saw action during the GDODAD invasion of Knootoss and again abroad, serving on the western flank of the Iesus Christi Civil War under Major-General Stien Bredenbent-Tromp, where it was part of a larger force charged with preventing loyalist forces from Corpus Christi and Military District West from attacking the flanks and cutting off the coalition offensive. Its badge features a screaming seagull defecating while aflight.

      62nd Armoured Division "Spinoza"

Stationed outside Haag, the 62nd Armoured Division is composed of three caterpillar-type tank brigades and a national mechanised infantry brigade. The unit has its origins in the main tank proving grounds in Rumbeke, but it was repositioned to be closer to the capitol after the GDODAD invasion. It saw action on the eastern flank as part of a larger force commanded by General John Tighe of the Excalbian Imperial Expeditionary Army. Its badge is a rose with the letters B D S and the word 'caute', meaning 'warily'.

      111th Air Defense Brigade

Raised after the GDODAD invasion of Knootoss, the unit is composed of 6 Air Defense Artillery Regiments that ring the capital city and critical areas to defend against a decapitation strike. Its badge is six thunderbolts striking from below.

      11th Foot Guard Brigade

The 11th and 12th Foot Guards Regiments, together the 11th Foot Guard Brigade, are raised from Knootian citizens across the country and stationed in the centre of Haag, near Parliament. They are required to be over 2 metres (~6.6 feet) tall, to play a musical instrument, to have served in another unit for at least three years and to graduate from a strict training regimen. They are responsible for the protection of Parliament, the Prime Minister and the Grand Pensionary, while also serving various ceremonial duties, such as the honour guard and band that welcomes foreign leaders. The 11th and 12th regiments usually alternate ceremonial and protection duties. They have drawn members from most Knootian formations except for the 6th Chamavic Ducal Cavalry Guard Brigade, with whom they maintain a long-standing rivalry.

      19th SER Brigade "Openbaringen"

The 19th is stationed in restricted underground facilities near Haag and specialises in defense against Nuclear, Biological and Chemical Warfare and continued defence of the nation after a major incident. It saw action on the western flank of coalition forces during the Iesus Christi Civil War, and is believed to have been engaged with failed attempts to prevent nuclear, chemical and biological weapons from falling into the hands of the 'Patriot' faction. Its name refers to the Book of Revelation and its badge is a plain sable cross pierced by an iron nail.

    • III Corps
III Corps has a mission to defend the headquarters of the Knootian Defence Force in Leemtrecht, where it is headquartered, as well as a section of the Hartstad Capital Region between the Dwalm and Tijraan rivers.

16th Leemtrechter Light Infantry Division "Liberator"

The 16th saw combat during the GDODAD invasion of Knootoss and served on the western flank during the Iesus Christi Civil War in an Air Assault capacity under Luitenant-General Tina Underdonck, where it took the 'Liberator' moniker. It has since been subject to economies and cutbacks, shrinking from a Corps-level formation to a Divisional one, with 4 Urban Brigades supported by 2 Air Defense Artillery Regiments. Its badge is the outline of a gothic Leemtrechter belltower. It is stationed near the city from which it draws its personnel.

      9th Mechanised Infantry Division

Stationed in the rural gap between Hartstads' western suburbs and the Tijraan river, the unit combines three wheeled "National" mechanised infantry brigade with a tracked "Caterpillar" Armoured Brigade, supported by an attached Military Police Battalion that has jurisdiction within HARLEG. Perhaps due to its proximity to Army HQ, it is often used as a testbed for new technologies and doctrines. For better or worse, the unit gets a lot of attention from multi-star generals, and its command is seen as a career making- or breaking appointment for General Officers. Their badge contains a mailed fist.

      167th Multinational Brigade "Verlossing"

A Foreign Brigade that saw service on the Western Front of the Iesus Christi civil war, as part of a larger formation commanded by His Grace Henri de Montmanuel of the Pantocratorian Imperial Army Legions. Its badge features a pelican piercing its own breast.

    • VII Corps
VII Corps contains elements that used to make up the Army of the Rede. It is stationed in and around Helder and responsible for the defence of the city that Knootoss' main naval installation, though the shipyards and docks are the responsibility of the navy.

      13th Rederlander Air Assault Division

The 13th are nicknamed the 'Lucky Birds' (Dutch: 'Geluksvogels'), and the symbol on their badge is a four leaf clover being carried aloft by a seagull. 2 Air Defense Artillery Regiments defend the cities' airspace, whereas the four light infantry brigades can be classified as 'Air Assault'. They are patterned after the urban brigades and largely drawn from Helder and the surrounding areas, but each company is trained in Air Assault doctrines and the brigade is strengthened by an additional battalion (or squadron) of rotary aviation for transport.

      3rd Armoured Cavalry Division

Drawing on the traditions of the War of the Covenant, the 3rds dress uniform is augmented by early modern mercenary cavalry symbols, and its officers may wear ceremonial sabres. The unit is constituted of three armoured and two mechanised infantry brigades of the Caterpillar and National configurations. Its badge features a pair of crossed sabres combattant on a field or.

  • JARLEG - Second Army of the Jardén
The Second Army or Army of the Jardén is composed of units from provinces facing Laneria. Since that nation is not believed to pose a threat in modern times, the army has a secondary role in the defence of the nation from foreign invaders. The relatively steady, sandy ground of its territorial remit allows for the deployment of heavier armoured vehicles. Its headquarters are located in the city of Chamaven.

    • II Corps
II Corps - sometimes dubbed the 'Sword of Chamaven' - is composed of units stationed inside of the Duchy of Chamaven. It maintains some colourful regimental traditions connected to the Duchy, including badges which resemble the coats of arms of its primary seats of nobility. They are primarily charged with defending the province and are headquartered in Chamaven (City).

      28th Armoured Division "Willemsburgers"

The division has three caterpillar armoured brigades supported by a national brigade of mechanised infantry. It is stationed near Armeloo and maintains the only slightly tongue-in-cheek motto of "Three Days to Williamsburg", based on war plans from the first half of the 20th century. Its badge resembles the coat of arms of Zeuvel, where it was stationed in the 19th century.

23rd Chamavic Light Infantry Division "Jonkervelders"

The "Jonkervelders" are drawn from the entire province of Chamaven, though many do indeed hail from the large working-class population of the eponymous city. Composed of 4 Urban Brigades and two Air Defense Artillery Regiments, the unit is generally the last in the province to receive new equipment and training. Its badge features the coat of arms of the Lordship of Jonkervelde.

6th Chamavic Ducal Cavalry Guard Brigade "Purple-born"

The 6th are an Urban Infantry formation stationed in the City of Chamaven. Its lineage draws back to Duke Lodewijk the God-fearing of Chamaven, thus making it older than the country itself. They served as a cavalry unit of Comites to the succeeding Dukes of Chamaven and threatened to lead an uprising after the mob lynching of the last of that line, Amalia of Chamaven, in 1867. They were appeased by the new Republican government, which conceded permission to continue to style themselves as Guards and to maintain their ceremonial uniforms and honours, a badge identical to the coat of arms of the House of Chamaven, and its commander being given influence over recruitment. Its words "Purple-born" come from both the House of Chamaven's colours and a Pantocratorian imperial tradition. They are called "LARPers" by their rivals, the 11th Foot Guard.

    • XXI Corps
XXI Corps is also known as the Jardén Corps or the Latturian Ducal Corps. It was formerly Twenty-First Latturian Army before being downsized and slotted under a command headquartered in the northern city of Chamaven. It is headquartered in Ardoye.

34th Latturian Jager Division "Eerste Macht"

Stationed in Ardoye, the 34th are Knootoss' only remaining Light Reconnaissance brigade, classified as Jagers, specialising in scouting missions in forested and other covered terrain on the brigade level. Its composition resembles that of four urban brigades, but its Bicycle Infantry platoons instead have advanced scouting and recon training and equipment. These formations are further augmented by a Military Police Battalion with jurisdiction over the Second Army and an Air Defense Artillery Regiment. The brigade fought under Brigade-General Niels Thacher on the Eastern Flank of the Iesus Christi Civil War, in a larger formation commanded by General John Tighe of the Excalbian Imperial Expeditionary Army. Its badge is a tree en soleil positioned on a green hill charged with the weapon of the Duchy of Latturia and its words refer to the alleged status of Latturia as the oldest polity in Knootoss.

      171st Latturian Mountain Division

The KLAMA's only Mountain warfare unit is stationed near Obesant. Latturia is the hilliest part of the country, but even so the unit regularly needs to go abroad for training, travelling to the Soveriegn States and other allied nations for this purpose. It consists of two Mechanised Mountain Infantry brigades ("von Hayek") and two Mountain Infantry brigades ("Hobbes"), as well as an Air Defense Artillery Regiment. It was stationed in St. Theresa under Lieutenant-General Sieuwerd Teichmann during the Iesus Christi Civil War. Its insignia is a steel triangle charged with the weapon of the Duchy of Latturia.

  • ZUILEG - Third Army of the South
The Third Army or Army of the South is a formation headquartered in Rumbeke. Its mission is the defence of the Knootian coastal and inland areas south of the Hartstad Capital Region, from Westervelde in the Luwelanden to the border with the Southern Low Countries.

    • XIV Corps
XIV Corps is widely considered to be a screening force, stationed as far north as Westervelde on the southern approaches to Hartstad and as far south as the near-border city of Sonseinde, which is host to an important civilian port and naval base.

32nd Waterlander Armoured Division "Musk Rats"

The 32nd is Knootoss' largest single division, with just over 25,000 personnel serving in 3 caterpillar tracked armoured brigades, two mechanised infantry brigades and two Air Defense Artillery Regiments. It is stationed in Sonseinde at the border with the Southern Low Countries, guarding the important naval installations there. Its insignia is a mitered musk rat seated in the commanders' hatch of a Stadtholder tank bearing a sabre on a field azure and the phrase "Propius Ago Deiecerit".

      20th Westervelder Light Infantry Division

The 20th is a Light Infantry Division raised from the lands between Merwe and Tijraan after they split north of Lichtenburg. Composed of 4 Urban and 2 Air Defense Artillery Brigades, it guards the millions of Knootians that live in this area and shield the southern approaches to the capital. Its symbol is a two-handed spiked Goedendag club fimbriated argent on a field azure.

25th Luwelander Light Infantry Division "Covenanters"/"1601"

Drawn from the Seven Islands, the 25th Luwelanders celebrate the role that Kommerdijk played in the War of the Covenant. Most of its soldiers are adherents of the credobaptist Reformed Church of the Knootian Covenant or its more radical cousin, the Reconstituted Church of Kommerdijk. The unit invokes the swearing of oaths on a Kommerdijker Bible as a regimental tradition. It is constituted of four Light Infantry Brigades after the Urban Infantry model, supported by 2 Air Artillery Regiments. In practice, the division is positioned across the seven islands, performing supporting roles in dyke maintenance and overwatch and evacuation roles during serious storms. For this purpose the brigade is equipped with fireteam-sized motorised boats and holds regular drills in brown water warfare. Its insignia bears the sable cross of the Luwelanden on a field argent and the numbers 1 6 0 1 across each quarter.

      29th Waterlander Light Infantry Brigade

The 29th is an urban brigade drawn from the citizenry of Balgerhoeke. It is a relatively new formation, having been revived since lapsing in the 19th century, and has not yet seen combat in its current form. Its insignia is a stork combattant crowned on a field azure.

    • XV Corps
XV Corps, also known as the Corps of the Shire (Dutch: 'Gauwcorps') is composed of units stationed in the Teistergouw. It is headquartered with the 107th Motorised Combat Engineer Brigade just outside Lichtenburg.

107th Motorised Combat Engineer Brigade "Kleisterman"

Stationed near Lichtenburg and drawing its recruits from that massive city, the urban light infantry unit has two Motorised Combat Engineer Platoons and a single platoon of motorised regular infantry in each company, earning it a status as Motorised Combat Engineer brigade. While in their home station, they are reinforced by three Air Artillery Regiments that serve to protect Lichtenburg and its strategically important military industry. The 107th is named after a famous 20th century military engineer from Knootoss and served on the eastern flank of the Iesus Christi Civil War under a larger formation commanded by General John Tighe of the Excalbian Imperial Expeditionary Army. Its insignia is a bridge receding into the horizon.

      59th Motorised Infantry Brigade 'Leeghwater'

This motorised infantry brigade is reinforced by an Air Defense Artillery Regiment. It served on the Iesus Christi Civil War's Western Front as a brigade of combat engineers under Brigadier-General Tijn Gerben van Buren in a larger coalition force commanded by His Grace Henri de Montmanuel of the Pantocratorian Imperial Army Legions. After the war it was converted into a 'motorised' brigade and moved from the tank proving grounds in Rumbeke to the coastal city of Kokkengen, from which it now draws most of its recruits. Its insignia is a lighthouse resplendent.

      27th Tank Division

The 27th is the remnant of the tank forces in the 27th army that was led by Major-General Josef van Lieuw on the eastern flank of the Iesus Christi Civil War, in a larger formation under the command of General John Tighe of the Excalbian Imperial Expeditionary Army. It is an all-tracked, tank heavy formation of four brigades reinforced by a Military Police regiment that is permanently stationed near the Rumbeke proving grounds. Its insignia is a heavy tank passant guardant on a field gules.

42nd Cavalry Division "Prins van Chamaven"

The 42nd is an all-wheels Mechanised Infantry formation stationed near the tank proving grounds in Rumbeke. It was an early part of the Iesus Christi Civil War and would later fight on the Eastern Flank in a larger formation commanded by General John Tighe of the Excalbian Imperial Expeditionary Army. Its insignia is a Royal crown pierced from below by a sword proper on a field argent.

  • TASCOR - IX Corps
IX Corps is an independent teritorial command, also known as the Shield of Tasat, which is not attached to any army. It formerly had army status, as the Army of Tasat, and is usually referred to as TASCOR. It is headquartered in Jansvoort and responsible for coastal and inland defense between the Halborscanal and the border with the Caldan Union. Its units are known for colourful Cymric and Jansvoorter traditions, between whom there is a (mostly) friendly rivalry.

15th Armoured Cavalry Division "Ridders van Jansvoort"

An armoured (tank) division composed of two caterpillar tracked tank brigades and one "national" brigade of mechanised infantry. The unit draws on the local traditions of heavy cavalry, and most specifically the Chamavic knights that first invaded the southern Cymric territories of Eastern Tasat and established a feudal stronghold at Jansvoort. Its symbol is a knight in heavy armour.

50th Cavalry Division "Ruiters van Jansvoort"

Drawn largely from Jansvoort and the nearby cities to its south, the unit is composed of three national mechanised infantry brigades and a Military Police Battalion. The unit draws on the local tradition for horse breeding and equestrian sports and its past as a cavalry regiment. Its badge features a gules horse bucking its rider.

    37th Mechanised Division "Red Cloaks"

Stationed outside Pentregram, the unit is composed of four National Brigades of mechanised infantry. It trains extensively for amphibious assault operations and repelling of the same. Its officers have received dispensation to wear red cloaks to augment their dress uniform, to maintain an old Tasatian tradition. Their insignia features a gules cloak charged with a glaive blade.

41st Cymric Light Infantry Division "Welsh Warriors"

Raised from residents of the Free Province of Cymsrijk and stationed outside Pentregram, the unit is composed of four Urban Brigades and two regiments of Air Defense Artillery. They maintain several Cymric military traditions and bear a red dragon badge. Its engineers provide considerable assistance in the maintenance of provincial water works and provide readiness overwatch during storms. The unit saw action during the Iesus Christi civil war on the western flank of the coalition offensive while under the command of Brigade-General Els Vuuren.

    21st Light Infantry Brigade

The unit is composed of a regular Urban Brigade raised from the citizenry of Jansvoort and its immediate environs, reinforced by an Air Defense Artillery Regiment. The unit regularly trains ambushing, asymmetric warfare in the local fens, peat-forming wetlands fed by the slow-moving Alfonwyn river. It also has a complement of small boats for brown water warfare. Its badge depicts a star fort bristling with cannon.

  • GOLFCOM - 69th Light Infantry Division
The 69th Light Infantry Division, also known Vasconian Gulf Territorial Command, is an independent command encompassing Knootian army forces stationed on the Knootian Gulf Islands. This smallests of general commands is dedicated to the defense of the Knootian Gulf Islands and headquartered in Landval. The position of commander is usually held by a Major-General who is also in command of the local infantry division, the Golfers.

81st Light Air Mobile Division "Golfers"

Soldiers of the 81st are instantly recognizable by their breezy tropical uniforms and insignia bearing the head of a giant toucan that is smoking a cigarette whilst wearing an infantry helmet with its straps loose. The unit is classified as 'airborne', since insufficient personnel have qualified to maintain its status as an air assault division. Its four light infantry brigades are spread out over the Knootian Gulf Islands, backed up by an army aviation battalion, two Air Defense Artillery Regiments and the busiest Military Police Battalion in the KLAMA. Efforts to mimic the success of the 'Urban Brigades' have failed, as locals are hesitant to join the Knootian Defence Force. The 2013 'Frigate drug smuggling ring' scandal and the 2016 'Mile High while High' scandal have led to a crackdown that has seriously depressed morale.

    73rd SER Regiment "Messcherp"

The 73rd are a Special Forces Operations Regiment headquartered in Landval, whose discipline and dedication stands in stark contrast to that of their infantry brothers. Their range of expertise includes underwater demolition, amphibious insertion, and (according to rumours) the use of a small submarine for covert operations. Their motto, 'Messcherp', can be poetically translated as 'Knife's Edge'. It served during the Iesus Christi Civil War and may have been involved in other covert operations.

Unit Types

Stadsbrigade - Urban Brigade

The Zwaluw Heavy Transport Helicopter is used by the brigade for moving troops.

The Stadsbrigade or Urban Brigade is one of several templates for Brigade-level organisation within the Knootian Defence Force. It can be classified as a Motorised or Airborne Infantry Brigade with light infantry as the dominant element, and focuses on light infantry and a decentralised command structure. Two or more brigades can be combined into a Stadsdivisie (Urban Division) with pooled support elements. A typical Stadsbrigade will be commanded by a Colonel (OF-5) or a recently promoted Brigade General (OF-6) and have around 3100 soldiers, of whom around 1500 are infantry.

As the name suggests, the brigade is intended to be deployed inside urban environments, either in a defensive capacity (to defend and hold Knootian cities) or for the purpose of systematically capturing and holding urban terrain when an approach has been cleared. The brigade retains a light footprint, so as to retain air mobility and the ability to rapidly scout an urban battlefield and respond to local threats with a variety of small arms, tactical use of top-down insertion into larger buildings via helicopter, and fortification of the urban terrain.

Each maneuver element is supported by an armoured platoon, adding around 12 tank destroyers and six infantry fighting vehicles to the brigade. More substantial explosive force is added by a battalion of light artillery. The exact type of artillery varies by brigade, since these are mostly leftovers from a time when Knootoss fielded exclusively towed artillery. Intra-brigade standardisation is at least attempted to make ease maintenance and the complexity of supply chains, but this has led to 'favoured' units receiving new self-propelled and rocket artillery vehicles years in advance of units that are given less priority. Even the unmanned Otter Multipurpose Vehicle is now relegated to a light artillery role in some brigades. A regiment of Air Defense Artillery is usually attached to a brigade when it is defending a Knootian city.

Stadsbrigade soldiers are typically recruited from- or assigned into cities with which they are personally familiar. The idea is to boost morale and local knowledge of fighting conditions in the event of a foreign invasion. Reservists will often train alongside units from these brigades, which are in turn often named after aspects of their own locality. Soldiers often live in or around that respective city and may have families there. They are however still eligible for deployment abroad, either in whole or (more commonly) in part, as various elements of different urban brigades are rotated into foreign deployments.

Motorised / Airborne Light Infantry Company

Eight Light Infantry Companies and four similarly organised but differently armed and trained Air Assault Companies make up the main fighting arm of the Stadsbrigade. Each company is composed of around 170 soldiers that are commanded by a Major or a Captain. A company includes three maneuver platoons of up to 40 soldiers each, which are each commanded by a Lieutenant, and two other platoons acting in support. Platoons in turn have an anti-tank squad and sections have three fire teams each when operating at full strength. A typical Knootian fire team might consist of a corporal armed with a light machine gun, a designated marksman, a soldier armed with a light machine gun and a soldier armed with a grenade launcher. Load-out may vary, however, and 3 fire teams carry a wide variety of weaponry between them. Each platoon also has a reconnaissance section with access to special equipment and training.

The company as a whole is also equipped with a variety of weapons and tools, and the soldiers train to use these as a team. Along with a variety of rifles and small arms, a company has access to hand-portable anti-tank missile launchers, man-portable air defence missile launchers, mortars, heavy machine guns, recon, utility, suicide and hunter-killer drones, including the OLV2 Valk Ground Attack Drone. An additional motorised element in a company consists of two or three vehicles that carry larger Air Defense Missiles that can hit high-flying targets.

Further capability is added to the unit by the inclusion of a Reconnaissance Section - Light Infantry with enhanced tactical scouting training and equipment - and a combat engineer platoon that has expertise in the fortification of urban terrain and its use in urban combat. The use of water management and "weather warfare" to manipulate the combat environment may also be employed: waterworks may be destroyed and rivers may be diverted. Knootian combat engineers (Dutch: Genie) have additional peacetime commitments, such as demolition, bomb defusal and dyke maintenance.

Trucks, electric bicycles and similarly-sized small vehicles are centrally stored and issued by a brigade Transportation Company. Electric bicycles are easy to maintain, and Knootians are naturally proficient in using them. Non-mechanised units sometimes end up commandeering private vehicles, with improvised mounted weaponry. The unit can be deployed outside of their stationed area in an airborne or in a fully motorised capacity, trading strategic for tactical mobility depending on the situation.

Landbrigade - National Brigade

The ZP5-VA 'Pete' Attack Helicopter is the main element of the national brigades' rotary wing army aviation attack components.

The Landbrigade is one of several templates for Brigade-level organisation within the Knootian Defence Force. It can be classified as a Wheeled Amphibious Armoured Brigade. Where the Stadsbrigade or Urban Brigade focuses on light infantry and decentralised commands, the Landbrigade resembles a more traditional mechanised infantry formation. Two or more brigades can be combined into a Landdivisie (National Division) with pooled aviation, artillery and support elements for greater efficiency in larger singular engagements.

Deployed defensively, the formation is intended to operate outside of urban environments, to defeat enemy forces with a combination of firepower and maneuverability. The wheeled maneuver elements of the formation formation are fully amphibious, and light enough to operate in cross-country in Knootoss proper, despite the occasionally boggy ground. A typical Landbrigade will have around 5000 personnel, of whom around 1600 are infantry manning weapons or being carried in mechanised vehicles.

A significant Rotary Wing Aviation Battalion will support the brigade with helicopters such as the ZP5-VA 'Pete' Attack Helicopter, air transport using the Zwaluw (ZWAar LUcht transportWapen) Heavy Transport Helicopter and MEDEVAC helicopters, including the ZLT Emergency Medical Service Helicopter. A platoon of soldiers further supports the brigade with Unmanned Combat Aerial Vehicles (UCAV), more commonly known as 'Drones' on scouting, search and destroy and suicide missions.

Its self-propelled artillery component will be slower but able to bring more firepower to bear using the S15 SPG Stadtholder Self-Propelled Artillery, self-propelled Multiple Rocket Launchers of various types and configuration and heavy batteries of Air Defense Artillery to contest the skies.

A legacy of self-propelled artillery are being deployed in these artillery batteries too, but these are slowly being phased out. Knootian towed guns are generally light, and can be taken to places that self-propelled guns cannot reach. Smaller towed guns may be drawn by bikes or mopeds, although artillery tractors for motorised artillery are also extremely common. Imported units of self-propelled artillery are in use, but their numbers are limited.

Chemical artillery is available, to be used in preparation for an attack. Chemical weapons are considered to be a tactical tool, not a weapon of (strategic) destruction. So-called 'Gay Spray' is the most well-known of these chemical weapons, but the military also commands fourth and fifth generation nerve agents. These agents are designed to be undetectable using standard chemical detection equipment, and to defeat chemical protective gear. The gear of artillerymen who work with chemical projectiles is even more elaborate than that of regular soldiers, and they are nicknamed "Darth Vaders", owing to the rather loud air filtration system that is used in their distinctive helmets.

Amphibious Armoured Company

The main fighting elements of the company include wheeled, amphibious armoured vehicles of the Adapted Schwerpunkt Armoured Platform (ASAP) family or their successors. These are organised into three maneuver platoons, a mechanised missile platoon and a mechanised support platoon, moving in unison with the latter two elements usually shielded in any formation.

A maneuver section will have two vehicles at optimal operating capacity. A typical wheeled company would thus include: 10 ASAP-IFV Infantry Fighting Vehicles, 8 ASAP-APC Armoured Personnel Carriers, 6 Armoured Wheeled Tank Destroyers, 2 ASAP-PEIL Armoured Anti-Tank Missile Launchers, 2 Armoured Wheeled Ambulance Variants, 2 ASAP-F Fitter, 2 Air Defense Missile Vehicles, an ASAP-SPM Self-Propelled Mortar, an ASAP-ESV Engineering Service Vehicle and an ASAP-HQ Armoured Command Vehicle

The Amphibious Armoured Company ends up bulkier than its Stadsbrigade counterpart, with just over 250 soldiers in one company. Of these, 29 are drivers, 24 act in a supporting role and the rest are either manning the vehicles' weapons systems or being transported in the passenger compartment.

Rupsbrigade - Caterpillar Armoured Brigade

The Stadtholder VI-B is one variant of the Stadtholder tank.

The Caterpillar Armoured Brigade (Dutch: Rupsbrigade is the heaviest independently operating unit that the KLAMA can deploy in conventional warfare. It is built around its signature piece of equipment, the Stadtholder Main Battle Tank. Like the Landbrigade, its maneuver elements are composed of armoured and mechanised elements, but the use of tracked vehicles allows the brigade to operate heavier vehicles, and to operate in more difficult terrain. The Stadtholders' 140mm tank gun allows its spearhead to go up against enemy nations' heavy armoured elements in the unlikely event that the Landbrigades' tank destroyers and mechanised anti-tank missile squads should fall short.

The supporting elements of the Rupsbrigade are similar to those of the Amphibious Armoured Brigade, and the template for the brigades' composition does call for 2 battalions of four armoured companies each, though these brigades may often be reformed into divisions, acting either together with another caterpillar formation or with a Landbrigade to provide additional heavy firepower and the ability to move along a section of front containing terrain that is more difficult to navigate.

A Caterpillar Armoured Brigade and is composed of around 3200 personnel of whom around 700 act as mechanised infantry support on the battlefield. The maneuver elements can field 64 Stadtholder Main Battle Tanks and 16 'Heavy Tanks' to counter super heavy armoured challenges.

Vreemdelingenbrigade - Foreign Brigade
Citizens and long-term residents of all Knootian Federation territories may serve in the Knootian Defence Force. Several divisions from the protectorate of Ale-Yarok have been fully integrated into the KLAMA, and are indistinct from regular units apart from language (Hebrew), religion (Jewish) and their usual base of operations in Israel.

Non-citizens In addition there is the possibility for other foreign citizens to join a Vreemdelingenbrigade or Foreign Brigade. While more of these may be activated during war time, the only one currently on active duty is the 167th Multinational Brigade "Verlossing". No more than 15% of any given nationality may be represented in any particular foreign brigade. The commander may also be a foreigner, usually with a Knootian as second in command. This is seen as an opportunity to experiment with different leadership styles and doctrines. A foreign brigade can accommodate up to 5000 volunteers, who are paid generous wages and granted citizenship on completion of their tour of duty.

SER - Special Forces Regiment

The SER (Dutch: Speciale Eenheden Regiment) are the Special Operations Forces regiments of the KLAMA. They are usually organised in regiments of two battalions - operations and support, with a single regiment attached to each army. They may be detached to serve strategic operational purposes for the general staff or the political leadership. They are trained to conduct the full range of military operations independently or in coordination with operations of other KLAMA units to achieve political, military, psychological and economic objectives, with an emphasis on covert operations behind enemy lines.

Equipment

Uniform

KLAMA service uniform and battle dress. Baselines courtesy of tsd715.

The standard service uniform that went into effect in 2022 features a double breasted pea coat and long trousers made from a cotton and synthetic fiber blend dyed Camouflage Green (#747970), continuing a tendency to use fairly drab green or greyish-green colours. Beret colours follow international conventions (green for commando's, claret for air assault, etc.). Divisional or brigade insignia are worn on the uniforms' shoulder.

Battle dress for duty in Knootoss and countries with similar climates uses a similar cotton and synthetic fiber blend with a fractal pattern to enhance camouflage, centered around the same colour average as the standard service uniform. Tropical, desert and arctic variants exist for battle dress, though the 81st Light Air Mobile Division is the only unit to wear the tropical variant on a regular basis, and units typically only wear the desert variant when deployed to Ale-Yarok.

Each soldiers' feet are measured in 3D to allow for a choice of best-fitting tactical boots.

Helmet

The new ABVA19 polymer ballistic Smart Helmet is being disseminated down the line. It claims superior ballistic protection and uses heat-dissipating pads for climate control, reducing the IR-signature of the soldier. It has integrated earplugs and a noise cancelling headset with internal and external microphones to allow for audio stimulus management to protect hearing and enable 3D surround sound squad radio.

The eyes are covered by a shrapnel-ballistic eye shield with twin cameras on the front of the helmet to permit visual stimulus management, day/night thermal optics and a Heads Up Display with CAESAR battlefield information. Embedded batteries are rated for 48 hours but prone to degrade over time, so many soldiers end up carrying commercially available external chargers with them. A modular mandible piece provides additional protection to the head and neck and adds a filtration system for respiratory protection, replacing the old rubber masks.

Protection

Heavy flak jackets are worn on combat assignments. When there is an expectation of chemical and biological retaliation, soldiers are issued additional protective gear, including protective masks to cover the gap between the neck and helmet, overgarments and gloves. A common supplementary digital wearable is a smart watch for embedded health status monitoring - including compliance with PE requirements.
