The Economy of Brickston

Overview
The economy of the Republic of Brickston is a highly developed free-market economy. It is the 15th most economically productive country. The country's government makes up around 22% of the GDP of Brickston.

High taxation rates are eroding due to the Lavoie-Snowglobegren Administration (President Lavoie and President Snowglobegren switch roles every so often due to their parties receiving an equal number of votes).

Brickston is one of the most globalized economies. Brickston comprises 7 provinces (a group of subdivisions create a province) 2 semi-autonomous territories (Portovo and Hugoslavia) and 25 autonomous territories (most of which are located in the northeast of Brickston. This system erodes the previous west-east divide. In 2021, Brickston was the largest exporter in the Brickston Subcontinent and the second-largest importer. Brickston has built a web of foreign investments, generating revenue for the country and helping poorer countries.

The Service Sector dominates the country's workforce, contributing around 66% of the GDP.

The financial capital of Brickston is Hugoslavia, while the administrative capital is Portovo.

Brickston's main foreign investments are in the European Union and tiny oil-rich islands.

Brickston's major import partners are Daguo, Inquista and Inosta, while its major export partners are Inquista, Chekoslovia and Daguo.

History
Just 30 years ago, Brickston's economy was 1/5 of what it is today. Colonization and European Civil Wars resulted in higher unemployment rates. In a survey conducted by the European Union, thirty years ago Brickston showed the worst results in terms of stability. The government's inefficiency brought the economy into shambles. Bill Crowton and Mark Jenner were called dictatorial rulers.

The Maduro Administration went down a socialist part, ripping off retail and giving greater powers to the government.
In the last 15 years, right-wing politicians have taken the stand. This has resulted in a boom in the economy.

Currency

The country's currency is the Dubbeh Euro, which has the highest value in the European Union. 1 Dubbeh = 1.49€ (2021 estimates).

Trade
Brickston's main exports are oil, heavy machinery, agricultural products and hardware.
42% of Brickston's food supplies are imported from other countries, primarily from E.U. members.

Poverty
The national recognized poverty line is 2,106 dubbehs a month, in contrast to 12,981 dubbehs a month during the Maduro Revolution. The poverty rate is at 5%.

GDP growth
Brickston's GDP growth has been rapidly declining, as a sign of an aging population not meeting the labour demands. As a response, the government has eased immigration to encourage an influx of workers. According to two statements released by the government, during the 1930s, the country's GDP growth stood at a double-figure, yielding 13.2%. Last year, the GDP growth was at 0.9%.

Transport
The government-run Brickston National Rail Service (BNRS) dominates national travel. However, most metropolitan cities have metros that are owned by private corporations.

Brickston has 212 international airports (notable airports being Portovo International, Doh Tin Mah, Hugoslavic International and finally Hudsoa Airport in the north). The District of Portovo has 12 airports.

Brickston has two major airlines (Brickston Air and Merlion Airlines).

Brickston has 5,106 skyscrapers with a height of more than 150m, 702 skyscrapers with a height of more than 200m, and just 15 skyscrapers with a height of more than 300m. However, most metropolitan cities in Brickston have just 1-3 skyscrapers, with Hugoslavia having more than 60% of Brickston's skyscrapers.

The District of Portovo was revamped to have more of a cultural feel, which resulted in the demolition of more than 90% of Portovo's skyscrapers. This was before the liberalization of Brickston. Before Portovo was revamped, it had more than 1000 skyscrapers over a height of 150m, with today's figure at 220.
